Igbo and Hausa Traders are Harassed and Extorted in Yorubaland.
According to the Vanguard newspaper, OVER 8,000 Igbo and Hausa traders in Akure, Ondo State yesterday protested against intimidation and harassment by officials of the Ondo State Capital and Urban Development Authority (CUDA) over relocation to a new market. All the shops, stalls, and department stores belonging to Igbos and Hausas in the Yoruba state of Ondo remained under lock and key yesterday in protest against harassment by the Yoruba agency.
Why is this going on in Yorubaland? The Yoruba are a commercial people. They should therefore understand the importance of avoiding these types of intimidations against people from other nations.

this is nothing new yorubas have been harassing Igbos for a long time. the only difference this time is that they have included Huasas. I remember in 1979 in Lagos when Chief Awo was handedily defeated in all Eastern States, and when NPP entered into accord with NPN. The Yorubas harassed the Igbos in the west. Some of them slapping Igbo traders and shouting Baba wa lo oke. Meaning that their Baba Awo was in the moon. Anybody who lived in Lagos arround 1979 can attest to what I am talking about.
Even when UPN came to power in Lagos they tried to Kick Igbo kids out Schools in Lagos. Even though their parents live and pays taxes in Lagos.

This is yet another example that Southern solidarity is a waste of time. When the Yoruba discriminate, it does not matter whether you are from the north or the South. It only matters that you are not Yoruba.

I say amen to that, Let face it as much as Most people will like to heap on the Hausa/Fulani. The father of tribalism in Nigeria is non other than late Chief Pa Awo. and yorubas are the most tribalistic ethnic group in Nigeria. I am not scared to say it.

Why is there silence from the one Nigeria camp?. As usual they have buried their head in sand and are pretending that all is well while non yorubas are harrassed. I bet their would be a cacophony of condemnations were the Igbos or Hausas to retaliate.

Yes,Ednut. and boy are they astute Business men or what?.These are the people who have come to the Land of retail business and have excelled. They did not feel intimidated as most non Igbos do when they come to Igboland. These people also realise that when their tribesmen come to Aba for business that they are likely to Patronise them. BTW Hausa, controll the Yam trade in ABA.
