Exactly a month from today (29 May 2001), the third republic will be two.
At this jucture, it will be proper to make a complete revision and appraisal of where Nigeria was in 1999 and where she is today , both politically and economically.
There is the argurement going on amongst most people, Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike, that Nigeria should have been restructured politically before holding an election. If anything, events since Obasanjo came to power two years ago tend to vindicate those who say that by holding elections without making the necessary polity restructures, that Nigeria's problems as witnessed since 1999 was something which was waiting to happen. Did Obasanjo discover this over-sight when he suggested his self-serving so-called 'regional national conference?'
If the past two years is anything to go by, what hope is there that the next two or more years will be any better?
Is Nigeria's disfunctional democracy caused by those participating in it, or has it got to do with the way the Nigerian state is structured, or both?
Do we really need what is going on in Nigeria today in the name of "democracy"?
What is your verdict both on Nigeria and its version of "democracy".

Democracy is yet to be seen in Nigeria with Obasanjo watching Sharia claim innocent citizens.

It is two years of disaster, rape, murder, and pillage. This will turn out to be the most corrupt "civilian" government ever.
