The Guardian Online - http://ngrguardiannews.com Thursday, May 3, 2001 Mbadinuju, APP allege threats to lives
From Chu Collins (Onitsha), Emmanuel Onwubiko (Abuja) and Clifford Ndujihe (Lagos)
GOVERNOR Chinwoke Mbadinuju of Anambra State and the All Peoples Party (APP) are alleging that the monster of assassination is stalking them from their political foes.
Mbadinuju alleged that he had uncovered plans by a multi-millionaire businessman and financier of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to assassinate him. Mbadinuju, who made the disclosure during an executive council reception organised in honour of the first state chairman of PDP, Chief Joseph Okonkwo, at the Government House, Awka said the plot was confirmed from three different sources.
The governor who recently fired two commissioners regretted the attitude of some detractors, who he said stole government documents to fight him.
But Mbadinuju had earlier stated that he had reported the matter to the police and President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The governor said his achievements and God, not a human being, will determine his re-election.
"Therefore no one should swear that only over his dead body would Mbadinuju be governor again in Anambra State," he remarked.
Mbadinuju, however, expressed satisfaction with the peace being brokered between him, Chief Joseph Okonkwo and Chief Annie Okonkwo, by the traditional ruler of Ogbunike, Igwe John Umenyiora.
The governor who saw the resolution of the conflict as a plus for the PDP and his administration, recounted Okonkwo's pioneering role in building a strong base for the party at the national and state levels. He further stated that Annie Okonkwo had promised to discuss with him after his overseas trip to seek ways of moving the state forward.
In his remarks, Joseph Okonkwo expressed satisfaction with the peace moves and said he wanted to bring back some political allies to forge a common course.
However, a swift denial of Mbadinuju's allegation came from Chief Okey Ezenwa, an aide of Sir Emeka, who in a phone call, said: "It's false alarm."
On its part, the APP urged the Federal Government to nip in the bud alleged killing and political victimisation of the party's officers and members in many PDP controlled states.
Raising an alarm over "threats" to the life of Mina Tende, chairman of Ogu/Boro council of Rivers State following an alleged mayhem unleashed on the APP-dominated area by a local militia group, Agaba, on April 25, Chief George Moghalu, the party's national secretary, in a statement said the situation was unhealthy for the nation's nascent democracy.
Agaba, according to him is "founded and funded" by a special adviser to the Rivers State government, a native of the area who he claimed "has never hidden his intentions" to "deal decisively" with the council boss and destroy the APP in the area.
Moghalu went on: "Ostensibly for the purpose of realising his dream, he began assembling young men and training them militarily even before the very glare of policemen. These men go by the name Agaba Boys..."
"Our LGA chairman wrote both the state government and the state police command on several occasions intimating them of the danger inherent in these," he said.
Lamenting that no response came from both ends until the council was invaded on the night of April 25 during which three prominent APP leaders were killed, several others maimed and property belonging to APP members burnt and destroyed.
"Is it how democracy would be practised? The other day, it was the killing of our APP chairman from Nnewi in Anambra State. The other times, we reported cases of political victimisation in Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Cross River, etc, all PDP - controlled state governments."

Main stream Nigerian politics....yeah right. Well, we are looking at messrs anyim and Mbadinuju and their main stream politics and my honest assessment is that they are political journey men. When Anyim went to an Igbo rally and said Julius Berger had been awarded a contract while Anenih had in actual fact awarded it to someone else. And Anyim is supposed to be number 3 in the main stream whatever and he cann't even be informed of a change of plan. You see the problem with you is that you don't understand who we regard as a leader. Maybe some body will be kind enough to interprete the saying "agbawo dike izu agba ya ngba n'abuo". Anyim is no where near dike. As for Mbadinuju, I'd advised him to go and get himself a job in Abuja come 2003 as his present work experience will enhance his CV.
The Igbos know their leaders, because they(the leaders) follow the will of the people. We are not some primitive backward and servile people or some hypocritical kneeling and prostrating owambes.

I Mbadinuju summons Nnewi North LG boss for breaching protocol By Tony Edike
AWKA, ANAMBRA - GOVERNOR Chinwoke Mbadinuju of Anambra state has summoned the chairman of Nnewi North local government area, Chief Amobi Chikwendu over an alleged breach of protocol in his council.
The governor is unhappy that the council boss allegedly received that the council boss allegedly received a multi-millionaire businessman and PDP stalwart in the state, Sir Emeka Offor at a ceremony in Nnewi where he was accorded gun salutes.
Mbadinuju and Offor are currently locked in a face-off which has destroyed the good relationship that has been existing between them since the beginning of the present democratic dispensation.
The governor, while summoning Chief Chikwendu at a forum in the state Exco chambers, Awka said the council chairman was bitting more than he can chew and directed the state chief of staff, Chief Anene Uzuakpunwa to invite him before it was too late.
The governor said: "we can only have one governor at a time when he (the chairman) brings in Emeka Offor and then releases more than 100 shots of gun, then that is going too far in my own state. I will not have it.
"Invite him it is a matter of urgency chief of staff, write him officially. Invite him to see me so that I will know how many governors we have in this state.
"If he is tired, he should go home otherwise I will require him to account for everything that happens in his local government."
However, when contacted yesterday, Chief Amobi Chikwendu expressed surprise over the "attack" on him by the governor, saying it was a calculated attempt to put him on collision with the state chief executive.
The council chairman explained that he did not invite Offor to the reception organised by Nnewi town union aka Nzuko-Ora-Nnewi in honour of their son, Dr Martin Igbokwe, chairman of NITEL Plc.
Chikwendu said "the reception was organised by the town union and I as a person was not invited," adding that he did not have any hand in the organisation or anything that they had to do with the reception.
"Dr Martin Igbokwe who is the chairman of NITEL invited his mentor to the venue and everything that was done that day was done by him," he said, stressing that he was very surprised that the governor should attack him on the issue.

The Governor is getting paranoid, It looks like his master Obasanjo may be dumping him for other people who may help him. Now Gov. Mbadinoju is getting jittery legs worried that the rug may be pulled under him. That is what you get when you lay with dog you get flies.

You think Mbadinuju is paranoid, and I think he's completely lost it! How pathetic.
Maybe he thinks he is in awusa land where people will come and do ranka dede before they hold a reception for their son. He should stop worrying about the inevitable(his one term only contract), but concentrate on updating his resume for his next abuja appointment. He has been weighed in the balances and found wanting. He is definitely not in the mould of the Igbo leaders we want at this point in time.
Some body tell him oh!

Hmm... It seem like our used up "moderate" Mbadinuju has gone off the deep end in his Nigeria style self arrogation. Gladly, Chief Chikwendu and Chief Offor are re-training him, the Biafran way. Kudos for the 100 shots gun salute!

When the Idiot says "we live", who are the we? The thousands who were butchered in cold blood nko? It is diabolical and criminal for Mbadinuju to make that sick remark except it was an attempt at sarcasm. Even Obasanjo did NOT list Sharia as one of the achievements of his satanic regime. For Mbadinuju to tell the electorate he is "playing good politics" with people's lives is irresponsible and unacceptable.

Mbadinauju is the symbol of corruption in Igboland, his survival depends on his deception of obasanjo, so what else do we expect corrupt confused man like him to say, he is such a political light weight and his words has no atom impact on the people of Anambra state.

Mbadinuju was the same coward who prevented the reburial ceremony for Biafrans at Uli. He was the governor that sat quietly in Aso Rock while Obusonjo was insulting Nd'Igbo and telling them they should be grateful for the crumbs they were getting from BiafraNigeria. It was Mbadinuju that went to Aso Rock and told Obusonjo that Nd'Igbo were preparing to reburry their Biafra war dead and he (Mbadinuju) was opposed to it, and he wanted to make sure that Obusonjo did not think he was one of those trouble-making Igbo people.
Back at egbeomooduduwa.com, it was Fumi Onodipe, a Yoruba woman, that showed us that Mbadinuju was an Igbo traitor in Awka (Onitsha). This time he will pay. We should get our resources together and start giving our support to those Igbo that are prepared to take the battle to Obusonjo. Obusonjo is an Igbo-hater. We must remind Nd'Igbo of that.

Remember, it was Mbadinuju that said he was going to introduce Sharia in Anambra State as a way of fighting crime. Maybe he has already secretly converted to Sharia.

Mbadinuju has done more for Awka than any other Governor since the New Anambra State was created. Would you rather have him or have that 419 chap Emeka?

Mbadinuju is a very sad case. With Nnamani he believes that yap yap yap is a subtitute for good leadership. Nnamani fancies himself as BiafraNigeria's equivalent of Bill clinton and JFK all put together. He is a much sought after speaker on Ibo(spelling deliberate) affairs. you would have thought that these gabby and eloquent "Doctors" will do the basic things for their people, but NO they won't.
see how "creatively" Mbadinuju is telling the world that he is owing poor workers many months of salary while he frequents Eagle square:
Hear the idiot:
quote:“It is not good to owe workers. It is good to say the truth for the sake of God. If I have my way I will not owe workers. Whether I have a hand in the financial crisis of the state or not, it is not good to owe workers. But even states that get N2.8 billion as allocation still owe, while at times I get allocation of only N75 million and I have a wage bill of over N500 million,” the governor noted.
This God God, na wa O! The ease with which these thugs take the name of God in vain. Babangida annoints obasanjo and he(OBJ) says it is God. Now Mbadinuju is owing workers and e feels it will be good to drag the name of God into it.

Igwes: Balogun collected N250m from Mbadinuju
John Ameh, Onitsha
A fresh window opened on Thursday into how the embattled former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, allegedly struck a deal with the former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, to cover up the murder of the Onitsha branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Barnabas Igwe, and his wife, Abigail, on September 1, 2002.
The former Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Kenneth Emeakayi, opened a can of worms in his response to a petition by Mbadinuju to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero.
The former governor had alleged in his petition, that Emeakayi and two senior policemen extorted N50million from him and also planned to kill him.
Emeakayi, who is being detained at the Force Headquarters, Abuja along with the two senior police officers from the Anambra State Police Command, claimed that Mbadinuju gave Balogun N250million to evade being arrested after he lost his re-election in 2003.
In the response by his counsel, Mr. Amobi Nzelu, obtained by our correspondent on Thursday, Emeakayi said Mbadinuju invited him to Abuja on May 5, 2003.
He said that the former governor wanted to know if he was still loyal enough to “stand in for him so that attention will be diverted from him,” while Balogun secured his escape to avoid the “humiliation.”
Emeakayi, described by many in Anambra State as the “information data base” of the then Mbadinuju administration, said that he gave an affirmative answer.
Mbadinuju, according to him, pledged that details of the plan would be unveiled to him (Emeakayi) after arrangements with Balogun might have been concluded.
Emeakayi who traced the disagreement between him and his former boss to May 5, 2003, disclosed that his own reward for agreeing to play along was N30million, plus a brand new jeep.
The former commissioner further claimed that on May 6, 2003, Mbadinuju drove him to the Force Headquarters for a scheduled meeting with Balogun, but on reaching there, he was asked to wait behind.
He added that the former governor reemerged from Balogun’s office and went to see a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, one Mr. Labaran, again alone.
Nzelu said, “It was only when Mbadinuju came out of the office of DIG Labaran that our client (Emeakayi) was asked to go and make a statement to the police.
“Our client refused because that was not the initial arrangement but was persuaded by Mbadinuju to cooperate with the police; that everything had been taken care of and thereafter Mbadinuju left to see Balogun.
“In the statement room, a photocopy of a statement was shown to our client alleging his involvement in the killing of the Igwes. Our client made a statement denying his involvement in the said killing of the Igwes.
“When Mbadinuju returned, he told Emeakayi that he (Emeakayi) will stay one or two days with the police so that the police will not be accused of releasing him immediately.”
Nzelu added that his client ended up spending over two months in police custody before spending another one and a half years in prison custody over the murder of the Igwes.
The counsel said that Mbadinuju left for Europe after he handed over power to his successor, Dr. Chris Ngige, on May 29, 2003.
While in Europe, he claimed that the former governor sent money ranging from N1million to N3million to his client through some persons, all of which he (Emeakayi) rejected “for the simple reason that what he was doing negates the arrangement reached by both parties.”
Nzelu told Ehindero that on returning from Europe, Mbadinuju used several emissaries to try to “settle” as a result of which his client gave him a bill of N137million.
The sum, according to him, was to defray the expenses Emeakayi incurred trying to free himself from the Igwes’ case.
He added that Mbadinuju agreed to the term and actually started paying in instalments through his lead counsel, Mr. Tochukwu Onwugbufor, SAN, but stopped after two instalments of N3million and N6million.
The counsel informed Ehindero that the latest dispute between his client and Mbadinuju, which resulted in Emeakayi’s fresh detention in Abuja since October 28, 2005, followed the nullification of the victory of Ngige by the election petitions tribunal.
He claimed that Mbadinuju again approached the former commissioner, asking for his support to succeed Ngige in the event Ngige’s appeal against the nullification of his victory at the Appeal Court in Enugu, failed.
Some influential politicians were said to have perfected a plan to use the Independent National Electoral Commission to “invoke a particular section of the law to put him back as the Executive Governor of Anambra State.”
The counsel said, “At this point, our client advised him against the project and told him that Anambra people will choose to die rather than have him as governor.”
Since his (Emeakayi) alleged refusal to support Mbadinuju’s comeback bid, Nzelu claimed, there had been repeated threats to his life.
Nzelu recalled that Emeakayi’s kidnap by “hired persons” on September 29, 2005 in Nnewi was not unconnected with attempts to kill him.
He said that in the course of interrogation in Abuja, the former commissioner found that one of the police officers detained along with him over Mbadinuju’s petition, revealed how the former governor allegedly recruited him and others to kill him (Emeakayi).
The officer was said to have recorded all the discussions on his mobile phone and also saved “incriminating” text messages that were exchanged between him and Mbadinuju.
The concluding paragraphs of the response by Emeakayi read, “However, to the greatest surprise of the counsel present, may be others, Mbadinuju was allowed to go home without at least obtaining his reaction to those allegations.
“It is appropriate to bring to the attention of the Nigeria Police Force that Mbadinuju has left this country. The police should not feign ignorance of this fact”.
THE PUNCH had reported exclusively on Tuesday that the latest row between the two politicians might not be unconnected with a rumoured bid by Mbadinuju to return to power.
Attempts by our correspondent to speak with Mbadinuju through his two mobile lines failed.
One of them, an MTN line, consistently replied, “This subscriber does not exist on the MTN Network”, while the second, a Glo line, simply replied “unavailable.”

How difficult is it in any country to trace a transaction of this magnitude? What a country, what a shameful big-for-nothing land of mediocres! Those who ride the tiger’s tail always end up somewhere not so comfy. Emeakayi is seeing it firsthand that when one colludes with criminals they almost always make a “U” to attack or betray. This thief called mbadinuju should be arrested and prosecuted immediately!! Emeakayi’s story sounds plausible and very easy to collaborate yet obasanjo, the master crook was quick to reward the criminal ex-governor of Anambra with a robust post as an Ambassador? Why should a criminal (mbadinuju) who has been implicated in the killing of the Igwes, the Anambra NBA Chief and his wife Abigail reserve the right/privilege to petition for the arrest of someone else and the government actually honored the petition? This nigeria sef!
