Even if we come to accept that Nigeria may take oil from the Niger-Delta, why can't these Nigerians protect the environment?

The bottom line here is that this incident is a calculated engineering of shell BP and Nigerian govt to drive off or exterminate the Ogonis and others from their oil rich land. Why flow in the US experts? What about Shell BP's own experts?...assuming it was an accident.

Its pitiful and evil that the merry despotic Nigerian rulers are ignorantly gleeful in aiding and abetting their imperialistic masters in the continued destruction of that part of Biafra.
They will all be made to be accountable.
