It seems this is a more subtle way of concluding the genocide started in the late 60s. Why should Aremu just go there without doing something tangible as if it is some tourism site? How much longer shall this madness continue?
Category: News Date of Article: 05/03/2001 Topic: Gully Erosion Kills School Children
Author: Ben Duru, Owerri Full Text of Article: ABOUT four school children were killed and six others seriously injured when they fell into a gully at Obodoukwu and Akpulu autonomous communities in Ideato North Local Government area of Imo State. The children were all playing near the sites of the erosions when suddenly the ground caved-in and caused them to plunge head first into the over 40 feet deep gully. Narrating their experiences at Obodoukwu and Akpulu to newsmen who visited the area, the parents of the dead children and their wards had returned from school on April 2 and were playing outside when all of a sudden they had a loud noise and before they knew what was happening, "our children had fallen into this deep gutters (gullies) you see here and completely covered with sand." They lamented that help was late in coming as the depth of the gullies scared those who had come on rescue mission. "It took about two hours before people managed to bring them out and before then four of them had died and six in serious conditions." When the chairman of the local government area, Chief Paul Umensofor was contacted, he lamented that this was not the first incident but that it had become a daily occurrence because of the erosions which was gradually carving out the area out of Anambra State. He further lamented that in a bid to save his people from the innocent doom as a result of the gully erosion, he undertook the reclaiming of one of the sites at Obodoukwu at the cost of over N11 million and that though the project had heightened the cash problem in the council, he was "at least happy that one of them is settled and the people of the area can live in peace." Umensofor maintained that there were about 30 erosion sites in Ideato North and that all of them were over 40 feet deep but that since he was able to reclaim one, he is sure he would reclaim the others if funds were made available. Saying that about N15 billion would be enough to reclaim all the erosion sites, he mentioned some of them to include Umuago, Obodoukwu, Akpulu, Osina, Urualla, Isiokpo, Uzid, Ndiejozie in Arondizuogu, Akokwa, adding "how many do I mention. These are very many. But all I am saying is that as long as time is wasted, my people will continue to die and others starve to death because they have no place to farm." The council boss linked the major cause of the many erosion problems to the abandoned federal government road project which was supposed to stretch from Anambra and was done and that of Owerri, the one passing through his council was abandoned and that the culverts and other things which were not properly channelled led to the devastation. Umensofor thanked President Obasanjo for visiting that of Umuago, adding that he should use his good offices to help salvage not only one but all the sites, adding that the state government and international agencies should come "to our rescue before it is too late."

When Obasanjo was in Imo State recently and was challenging the Imo State Governor to show him where Imo State was marginalized, why didn't the governor take Obasanjo to that gully and push him in there. I bet that would have convinced him that marginalization exists, at least for those who end up in such death traps. The resources of Imo State are stolen and used to build remote places in the Yoruba and Hausa lands.

This, and numerous other similar inhuman situations should be added to the list of human rights violations presented to the Oputa panel, and later to the Hague.
All these deliberate Nigeria orchestrated ruins and degradations will come to an end, once Biafra reclaims herself. The healing, real work, and progress will begin.

how can we avoid the decay and corruption that has affeected nigeria in the new biafra. is this posssible after 40 years of oppression? it is very likely if we do not change the chararter of the peoples of biafra that we will have the same problems if something is not done to improve the leadership and stop the worship of money. most of the politicians at present are not there for their ideas but because of ill gotten wealth. This why massob is the only organisation that truely has the people's intrest at heart.Hopefully one day we can make people it is an honour to serve the people and not enrich oneself but to enrich all the people. The president of the US makes only 200,000 a year and his wife does not import petrol nor does she clamour over the possibility of importing beans from burkino faso. The preent mismanagement of the ecomomy and the sky rocketing food prices is increasing the enrollment of armed robbers and of course it is to our advantage their is more confusion in the present leadership. People can only take so much abuse. When will black people see the light. It is about time that the recolonisation of africa should take place all black rules have failed. But I believe that biafra had an agenda that can work and we are intelligent enough to help the rest of black africa out. Ojukwu our leader in thought and in action the leopard, the king needs to come back and lead us into salvation ,freedom and prosperity.

Weren't the roads better before the likes of Mbadinuju, Udenwa and the rest of the Igbo nation governors took over the affairs of state? So, why blame Obasanjo's reconstruction era?

All your questions are being worked on as we are processing The Biafran aspirations and bringing it closer to the lay man in the street especially the traders.
The present crop of ruling chaps in the Biafran region are mainly sycophant. They are not people to move with.
The current problems are: 1. Those that intermarried with the infidels. 2. Those that are being held spiritually through one religion or the other. 3. The people that does not have mind of their own and they grew up either in the North or West. 4. The uneducated 5. The sabotuers (e.g the first eastern administrator after Civil war and his likes, Ojo Mmaduekwe). 6. The unbelievers among us. (Vision Killers)
Remedies: a) With the help of Unicef (Some are getting eduated within the market) b) New movements are being formed for mass re-orientation of the Biafrans. c) Scholarship projects that are being organised by people like Chief Rogers Okorocha. d) Uka Ndigbo (Spiritual solidality)
Think of the solutions, we will be better. What do you want to know about the current happening the Niger. I will give you details, believing that NEPA, NITEL will not stop my connection.
ON EROSION: There has been more neglect of the Biafran region since after the uprising.
Some of the people are more catholic than the Pope. They pretend to think Nigeria instead of Biafra.
Look at the picture, If Dim Okeke has money and Dim Okafor does not have , if they are family friends, there will be a time when Okafor's children will claim to be Okeke's outside their region.
This is what is happening with our political elites, they want to belong since their people are not there. They can deny been Biafrans just to be among the clique that is in power.
We need a movement on enviroment. I am here in Niger, we will support you people as the frontliners.
I don't think we can get any reasonable thing from Aremu and his people.
We tried in so many forms but it all failed.

Eby, You made the perfect sense. The remedies you outlined brought instant warmth to my soul. Since education is the ultimate tool for reclaiming ourselves from the hijack of the Nigerian govt and their Igbo saboteurs, it is exceedingly commendable that serious and relentless steps are being taken right there on the ground to educate our Biafran masses. Come 2003, the likes of Achike, Maduekwe, Mbadinuju, Anyim, Enwerem, Okadigbo, will never dare show their monstrous visages amongst the Biafrans again in guise of "looking out for the welfare of Ndigbo".
As for the blind hero worshippers and monkey wrench throwers in Diaspora, time is fast approaching when their names will be in the "aiding and abetting" crime list against Biafra. Just ask the Jews what they did and still do with nazi collaborators. Same will apply to all the anti-Biafra/Ndigbo person/group.
Biko, keep updating us about the happenings at home that affects Biafra.
