Nigerian political association in US seeks registration
From Ehichioya Ezomon Political Correspondent
PREPARATIONS for 2003 elections have gone beyond the national borders as a new political association in United States, called the Millennium Club, has joined the proliferation of associations jostling for registration by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Launched last weekend in Philadelphia, with thousands of Nigerians resident in America in attendance, the group is headed by former governorship candidate in Oyo State, Dr. Olusola Dada, a medical practitioner.
Addressing the gathering, Dada urged INEC not to disallow any grouping from transforming into a political party. For to do so would not only be unconstitutional, it would offend the international community.
He scored the present administration low in performance, declaring: "We blame the military for mismanagement, misappropriation and bad governance, but everyone can now see how our politicians are messing up."
"When we voted them, we thought they would deliver, but their performance rating is in our opinion lower than that of the military."
While extolling the achievements of retired Generals Yakubu Gowon and Ibrahim Babangida in the creation of states and local governments, provision of infrastructure and the establishment of the Peoples Bank of Nigeria, Dada pledged that the Millennium Club, as a political party, would meet the aspirations of Nigerians and bring sanity to the nation's polity.
