How Igbos Can Take The Presidency In 2003, by Nas

From

Bayo Ohu

Katsina

AGITATIONS by the Igbos to produce the country's president in 2003, and their struggle to remedy their perceived marginalisation would be in vain unless Igbo leaders and politicians come together in unity to fight their cause, former Special Duties Minister, Alhaji Wada Nas, has said.

Speaking to reporters in Funtua at the weekend, he said even though the Igbos had actually been marginalised by the successive administrations in the country, the Igbos themselves have been the arthictects of the problem they have been complaining about and they must salvage themselves from the self-inflicted malady.

He stated: "Although the administration is fighting them, but it is a pity that they (Igbos) are fighting and exposing themselves to ridicule through vendetta."

This weakness, he noted, is what the administration and other enemies of the Igbos are exploiting to perpetuate the marginalisation and unless the Igbo leaders have a rethink and work together as a group, their problem of marginalisation would persist.

However, Nas criticised the recent appointment of three service chiefs in which the Igbo was not considered for any of the posts, pointing out that there is the need to consider the Igbo grievances in respect of the appointment. "I do not believe that the Igbos do not have someone to warrant a favourable consideration", he added.

According to him, it will be in the best interest of the country for President Olusegun Obasanjo to be more sensitive in his appointments in order to reconcile contending forces and interests.

Reacting to the on-going political re-alignment in the country, Nas said he is prepared to work with the "Afenifere" the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group.

He explained that the misunderstandings between him and the Yoruba leaders and members of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) were only during the military regime which could not be extended to the present democratic dispensation.

That article applies to more than those being indicted in it. I hope others who need to learn from it do so. Empty vessels they say make the most noise. Congent Nd'Igbo shall never cease to be and there are many.
Our salvation will surely come but not necessarily from these so called senators or whoever else is senseless enough to be fighting his brother when there is a bigger "war" out there. Most noble causes are not always free of internal and external sabotuers or people who regard self (ego) primary to the collective goal. Many a time they pay dearly for it. The prayer should be that they be minimal and that majority keeps the movement going. Biafra must emmerge peacefully even without the distractors and empty heads, no matter who they think they are amongst Nd'Igbo.

Well said brother our salvation will not come from those politicians, that is why people like Chief Ralph are getting Grassroot following.

But wouldn't listening to Igbo intellectual elites help in resolving the leadership crises?

Concentrate on Hausa/Fulani affairs, there is the nagging problem of hunger, disease and illitracy in the north while their counterparts in Burkina Faso are doing just well without oil.Shamefull you would say wouldn't you ?

Truthfully speaking, If we have to seek for presidential strategy or leadership, should we seek an Hausa? After all that Nigeria is an indictment and in sorry state is mostly attributed to Hausa leadership. We have never sought leadership advise from the Huasa but we may have sought one on how to deal with the parasitic North.
Thanks and no thanks for making a jackass of yourself.

Hail Biafra

Bature,

You wrote:

Who tells you that some of those on this thread are not intellectuals. Those you percieve as our intellectuals should listen to the sensible ones. Do you know that our feild commanders right in the fore front at the declaration of Biafra were lecturers and students from UNN Nsukka of those days ? Our intellectuals are with us. Which among them is more intellectual than Uwazuruike or Ikemba himself ? Tell us.
