Foreign Policy: Nigeria (or is it BiafraNigeria?) vs. U.S.

Nigeria, or is it BiafraNigeria?, can do better than this. We can do better than this retard called Obasanjo. What a Shame! What a disgrace!!

Reading the post-summit interview held by President George W. Bush and Mr. Obasanjo reveals that Nigerians have a worse problem on their hands with Obasanjo as president than anything we had with Abacha or Babangida. Even in the moment of his gravest depravity, Abacha realized the importance that Nigerians believe that he (Abacha) was acting in their (Nigeria’s) interest. On the contrary, take a look at Obasanjo viz. a viz. the so-called bumbling George W.

quote:
PRESIDENT BUSH: As many Americans may know, that we are in the process of helping provide technical assistance to Nigerian troops so that they are better able to keep those peace missions. We talked about the program. We've completed two phases of the training. We're in the process of completing the third phase of an agreed-upon training program.

Mr. Obasanjo: Thank you very much, sir. I want to take this opportunity to thank President Bush for the invitation to visit the United States of America at this particular time, and to be able to establish our relationship and at the same time be able to cover the important areas, ground -- of important areas of bilateral relations of areas of concern in our subregion of West Africa, areas of concern in Africa, particularly areas of -- that are ravaged by war and conflict, such as Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone and so on.
….
And, of course, I am happy to be able to make a friend of President Bush, just as you heard President Bush had made a friend of me. I now can feel that if there is any need to call on President Bush, he knows what I look like. (Laughter). I am not a no-person to him. He knows how I smile. He may even be feeling how I look on telephone.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Mr. President, thank you very much. It's an honor for you to be here.

Even if you are not very discerning, several things jump out at you. The first words out of George W’s mouth were: “[a]s many Americans know.” The first words out of Mr. Obasanjo’s mouth were: “I want to take this opportunity.”

Bush went on to state that Americans were in the process of providing “technical assistance to Nigerian troops so that they [the dumb Nigerians] are better able to keep those peace missions, [so that no American lives would be wasted on such missions].” In what would ordinarily be understood as an insult on Obasanjo, Bush said, It's an honor for you to be here. I hope that Mr. Obtusanjo is really feeling honored that he was brought into the presence of George W. A less obtuse Nigerian (or BiafraNigerian) president would have told George W. “the honor is yours.”

George W. is young enough to be Obasanjo’s son, yet, Obasanjo referred to George W. as sir. Someone must have driven into Obasanjo’s empty skull the importance of being courteous to the young U.S. president, who is young enough to be Obasanjo’s son. Yet, Obasanjo insults Oxford University graduates and proven intellectuals in Nigeria (sorry, BiafraNigeria) simply because those superiors of his happen to be Igbo. He tells them to ”go to hell,” or he tells them they ”should be grateful for what they are getting” from Nigeria.

While Obasanjo is flailing about on Nigeria’s role in Africa’s numerous conflicts, while Obasanjo was day-dreaming that Bush “may even be feeling how I look on telephone,” Bush is making it known to Americans that America’s national interest is the cornerstone of U.S. involvement in Nigeria. What a contrast! What a shame!! Even between the so-called dumb and dumber, we can clearly see who is dumber.

An all-round disaster for Nigeria.
Even a dumb George Bush accurately articulated America's interest and benefit from the summit:
quote:
President George W. Bush told White House reporters Friday: "I had a good discussion today with the President of Nigeria, who is talking about increasing the amount of production coming from Nigeria. That is positive news for US consumers. The more supply on the market, the lower the pressure there will be on price".

Though he said he was also working with Canada and Mexico on increased supply of crude oil and natural gas, the president made it clear that the long-term solution to the energy crisis is for the nation to expand its refining capacity.

George Bush even went half way to articulate what he believed that Nigeria gained from the summit namely military assistance:

quote:
The American president informed that two phases of the training being provided for Nigerian peacekeepers by American soldiers have been completed and the US is now in the process of completing the third phase of the "agreed-upon training programme".

"The short of it is that Nigeria is a friend of America and the President is a friend of mine. It has been my honour to welcome him here. I look forward to working with him in the future", President Bush declared.

On his part Obasanjo summarised Nigeria's gains in general, needless to say, vague terms with characteristic delusional grandiosity of saving the whole world:

quote:
President Obasanjo confirmed that he had indeed established a positive relationship with the Bush administration, saying his discussions with Bush covered important areas of bilateral relations, and areas of concern in the West African sub-region and Africa as a whole, especially areas ravaged by war and conflict.

And, significantly, even Obasanjo appears to realise that a stupid beggar has no real choices, and that no self-respecting government indulges in international charity without a profit:
quote:
In his brief remarks at the occasion, President Obasanjo noted that though the fund was still far from the $7 to $8 annually that is needed to combat the AIDS scourge, the US contribution challenges all nations, governments, foundations, private individuals and private sector and all stakeholders in the health of humanity to make similar contributions to the fund.

And excelling in what he does best, the retired General Obasanjo went on to take hypocrisy to an unassailable new height.
Hear him:
quote:
At a late dinner the President had with the Nigerian community in the US on Thursday night, he lashed out at the idea of retired military officers coming out to form a political party. "It is the height of insensitivity for a group of retired military officers to come together and say they want to form (political) association, to do what? In the light of what the military has done in the recent past, it's only a fool who will be deceived", the president told his audience.
Was he talking about the PDP -Past Dictators Party or what?

And to round up a needless trip that further reiterates that this guy is a waste of presidential office space, he looks for a scapegoat for a catastrophic performance largely brought about by dumb policies and unprecedented corruption under his government:

quote:
He blamed the depreciating value of the Naira on unscrupulous practices by many banks, 27 of which he said were recently penalised by the Central Bank. Other reasons he cited for the Naira's low value are what he called frivolous importation and the depreciation of the Euro and the Japanese Yen against the Dollar.

The visit by Obasanjo was not only a waste of Naira, it was a palpable breach of protocol. If Nelson Mandela were still the President of South Africa, would he have been summoned to such a frivolous trip at the White House by a new U.S. President, who is himself in desperate need of image enhancement? Bush would have been the one hurrying to South Africa for a photo-op with Mandela. But, heck! Nigeria is no South Africa, and Obasanjo is certainly no Mandela. Nigerians have to settle for a president who is excited about the idiotic prospect that Bush “may even be feeling how [he looks] on telephone.”

Americans must be laughing their heads off not only at the Ape-Man that the Nigerians call their president, but also at the type of mockery that Obasanjo is making of the word “democracy.” It must indeed be convenient for America and her national interest that all they have to do is make a phone call to the brain-dead president of Nigeria, or order him to Washington, and voila, more oil starts flowing, service chiefs are fired, etc. Whatever happened to the democratic process? Why don’t the Americans tell Obasanjo to get these agreements to pass through the National Assembly, the same way that US agreements pass through the Congress.

Bush speaks of agreements reached between Nigeria and the US to provide military assistance. Again, pray, why does it not trouble the Americans that their “friend” in Aso Rock does not consult the National Assembly over these agreements? Bush knows that in the conduct of US foreign policy, the US presidency is subject to the oversight, as well as the advice and consent powers of the Congress. Hence, many bilateral and multi-lateral agreements entered into by the US are unenforceable unless Congress has ratified them. Does it not bother the Americans that there is no enabling legislation for many of the agreements that this uneducated and failed president is entering into with the Americans? The answer to that question is simple. The Americans know about these problems. But, it is not in their national interest to point them out.

When a US president signs a non-self-executing treaty, there is a lot of debate about whether he can get Congress to ratify that treaty. The SALT II agreement that Jimmy Carter signed with Leonid Brehznev of the Soviet Union is dead today because Congress never ratified it. In Nigeria, every retarded ugly man can enter into a treaty, have it enforced against Nigerians, and never have to worry about what the people’s elected representatives at the National Assembly think. So, where is the difference between Abacha, the dictator, and Obasanjo the (s)elected president? How many of you one-Nigerianists can truly say that you understand the contents of these agreements that Obasanjo is foolishly signing in your names? The Americans are happy about the simplicity of dealing with a dictator in agbada, who does not have any problem disregarding his own constitution and his country’s legislature. I just wish they would stop telling us that they are in Nigeria to assist in growing democracy.

If you don’t know that Americans consider you Nigerians and your president to be dumb, know it now. Worse, the Americans now know that you are being led by a dumb and unsightly dictator.

All I have to say as a Yoruba is that Obasanjo was not our choice. We gave you Falae, and you took Obasanjo. We knew there was nothing in his brain, but you all thought you knew better. Well, see!! We warned you.

Adisa,

The choice between SAP & OFN was like between the devil and the deep blues sea. Some decent Ndi-Igbo made some positive contributions to the formation and structure of PDP and that in my own thinking informed the choice of the majority of Ndi-Igbo: They saw PDP as being better placed to serve their interest. Part of the reason Aremu has failed woefully in addition to his innate stupidity is that he has set aside the structure set in place by men of higher intellect and most importantly of saner mind.

Ndigbo ndewo nu. I am overjoyed to join you and this great forum. Unu nwe aka a. Udo dili unu. Iseeeeeeee.

Now, about Obasanjo, I read somewhere that after his arrival in the US, at a pre-summit dinner hosted by the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, Obasanjo confessed that he did not know why President Bush invited him to visit the US or what was to be discussed. Can you imagine that? A Head of State flew across the oceans to the US and he did not know what the trip was about? Suppose his plane had crashed and everyone on board died. We would have had to wait for the Americans to tell us why Obasanjo was coming to the US. This is tragic. Truly tragic.

Brother Patrick Welcome to BiafraNigeria world, Make yourself comfortable.

Now as your your point about Obasanjo what do you expect from him. The Know doesn't know anything. Look at all his blunders, I guess US didn't want him to forget why before he gets here that is why they didn't want to tell him why he was coming. Now his errand boys will now go home and feed Nigeria public with bologne.

Welcome aboard the freedom train, please feel free to speak your mind.

As for Obasanjo why blame him, did you not read that a dinner party was held for him and he kept his guest waiting from 7 till 10 pm.All these so called American based professionals sat down on their asses and waited for his excellency for 3 hours without complaint. Then tommorrow they come and write about how to improve Nigeria.

As you can see those that want to save Nigeria from abroad have low standards like Obasanjo, so if you think it is terrible that Obasanjo came not knowing why he came then ask yourself about those who waited for him not knowing why they waited. This na real confuscion break bone, once again my brother welcome.

Obasanjo was ordered to Washington by George Bush, so that Bush could extract a promise from the Obasanjo to pump more oil and violate OPEC quotas. I am sure Obasanjo obliged his host.

Who is better off ruling Nigeria besides Obasanjo? Notably he (Obasanjo) is the only centrist around to appropriately handle the Nigeria state.

That was good I think Bature needs a massive dose of Prozac. He is a confused man. Do you think he likes Obasanjo? no. The fool is just saying something to annoy us, that's all.
