Recently chief Dayo Fajuyi chairman Ado-Ekiti LGA. and son of late col. Adekunle Fajuyi was honored by Ndi-Igbo in Enugu. His courageous father was murdered thirty five years ago with the former Nigerian head of state and the first Nigeria Army General. Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi. They were murdered in cold blood by T Y Danjuma, Gowon, Diya, and others still at large.
While protecting his guest he paid dearly with his life. May we all pay tribute to this great man, Late col. Adekunle Fajuyi. The Fajuyi family will always remain the friends of Ndi-Igbo.

May his soul rest in peace, Also recently I read the Okadigbo Interview where he mentioned how Igbos gave another friend of Ndigbo Adeniran Ogunsanya, A befitting Igbo Burial. Up to the point Chief T.O.S Benson Ask that when it is his time for his Igbo friends to Bury him. What this shows is that we Igbos never forget who our friends are. And we will go out to show it. Okadigbo said that on the day Igbos buried Ogunsanya the whole Igbo businesses in Lagos from Idumota to Alaba shot down for one day to honor Chief Ogunsanya.

As much as I will never trust most of yorubas more over the Awo disciples, However the few friends Igbos have in yoruba. we should go ways to show them that we cherish their friendships. Whether is Ogunsanya, T.O.S Benson or Fajuyi.

Chima my brother,

Many tnx 4 this thread. Fajuyi was a totally brave and courageous gentleman who left NO blemish on his record. Infact his life is there for all to see, and he doesn't need tribal warriors to patch up his image at death like some people we all know.

I suggest the Lagos Airport be named after him and not the serial killer MRM. Mbakwe had done the same when he reverted the name of the Umuahia teaching hospital to QE instaed of the MRM, which some over- zealous soldiers had opted for.

I pray that Fajuyi's children will prosper in everything they lay their hands on. Adieu brother Fajuyi!! We appreciate you.

Umu Biafra,

Any one who lived in Igbo land, and had dealings with Ndiigbo always come out of it with an appreciation of Ndiigbo. The late Adekunle Fajui prior to being appointed the Military governor of Western Nigeria, was the commander of the First Battalion of the Nigerian army in Enugwu. He a good example of a friend indeed

Adekunle, a warrior by faith and a distinctive soldier by hard work. He is indeed not only friend of Ndi Igbo but a tribute to Biafra and black race.

He is a true soldier who knows the meaning of the profession and stood his grounds in the midst of the hail of bullets. He was a soldier that lived and carried the grace of God in his hearts. He was an onward Christian Soldier. May his soul rest in peace.

Hail Biafra

Why are you guys calling this man a friend of Igbos? Can someone tell me what he did for the Igbo people besides standing by his superior officer and being a good soldier? Just solicitating information in case I missed something that he did for the Igbos.

Ednut,
How many people will stand by their superior officer in this day age. This guy could have stepped aside and let the blood thirsty murders do their dirty work. After all Diya, and Adisa are yoruba officers yet they took part in murdering their own man.
How many of the murdered Igbo top military officers had anyone stand by them at the time they were being pursued all around military barracks all over northern nigeria, Lagos, and Ibadan. You think they didn't have friends among those who murdered them in cold blood?
Col Fajuyi will always remain friend of Ndi-Igbo. I am sure those who honored his son in Enugu did the right thing. Naturally Igbos never forget their friends and they know who their friends are.

Contradictions galore. I think the consensus here is no ngbati man should/could/must be trusted by an ndigbo person.

Babyboze, wrong and wrong again, read between lines and understand between trust and professional duties. This is about bravery beyond the call of duty not trust. However, even if it's about trust actually, is it reasonable to single out one man as reflection of all Yorubas? That is what we social scientist call deductive reasoning and that you have faulted. The Yorubas have a pattern of deception and cowardness. However, it is possible to find one in that million who is different. The politics of extreme deception has not changed and still remain relatively the same, the way the Igbos view the Yorubas.

Hail Biafra

Too bad, your oppresive nature cannot comprehend why everyone should have equal access to the good things of life. What makes you think you are better than the Dick & Harry.

It is people like you who make Nigeria what it is today.

Fajuyi was a very brave man. He must be honored, not just by Igbos, but also all those that cherish integrity in their countymen and women. While Ironsi's ADC, Theophilus Danjuma, was plotting Ironsi's murder, Fajuyi was surrendering his own life to protect Ironsi. That is plain heroism.

I am glad that Igbos have not forgotten the works of people like Fajuyi and Effiong who stood up against the barbarity and murderous brigandage of the Hausa/Yoruba murderers who sought to exterminate Biafrans.
