Folks,

I want to know what you think of the Aare Onakakanfo (Yoruba field marshal), the man widely believed to have won the June 12 1993 general election which was annuled by the Minna born despot, Ibrahim Babangida.

Abiola was an enigma, a most complex persona. He was multi talented: could produce very complex rythms on jungle drums, but the husk in his voice was not exactly in the same league as Smokie of 'living next door to Alice' fame.

Abiola was well schooled in Yoruba proverbs and entertained the world no end as he faced the media on the june 12 issue; but he also shot himself in the foot a few times with calls that his enemies used to potray him as lacking in patriotism.

Some Yoruba folk lore has it that MKO means Money, kudi, Owo and boy did the guy have it. He oozed dollars, sweated pounds and sneezed naira. He donated a lot of stools worth a lot of millions to a lot of universities. Don't mention ITT. I won't.

MkO attended a Christian high school but was probably more zealous in the propagation of islam with his financial clout than Ayatolla himself.

Abiola was not short on friends, and with 26 official wives could average a fresh wife for every working day of a calendar month. He came across as a peace loving bloke. But he almost single handedly took on the developed world in his fight for the reparation of blacks in diaspora. And the threats of Nigeria becoming worse than Bosnia???

In death, he'd fulfilled another superstitious yoruba prediction that all Aare onakakanfos quit violently, for if major Hamza's confessions is anything to go by, then the late chief did not quit silently as Hamza claimed his body shuddered even after his soul had separated.

My questions are these: Was Abiola in pursuit of self actualisation, the very zenith of Abbey marslows hierarchy of human needs? Was MKO pushed to his death by latter day activists cum opportunists? In short, who was this guy MKO?

Ohafia,
Do you have Smokies' "Living next door to Alice" cassette/CD? I've loved that song including Mexican Girl...way back when.

Was he the Yoruba presidential aspirant who said he didn't need Igbos and their votes?
Well in the end, he didn't indeed.

When the Awusa/Fulani/Yoruba/US conspiracy snuffed Abiola out, I wonder where the loud mouth Bamidele and co were. Even Obasanjo was among those who didn't want the ITT chap ascend the Nigerian presidency.

However, I very much doubt the man is resting in peace. He left too much chaotic mess behind. Why is it that these Nigerians who never got their domestic lives in order always strive to rule the nation. Does charity not begin at home? If one cannot manage his home and businesses, how then can he manage the affairs and citizens of a nation?

Chie, nwanem Udumeze akpasuelam.

Well, Abiola, would have saved us from the hands of a corrupt and oppressive regime, right? Wrong! He left a legacy that would be remembered for years by Biafrans all over the world. We can say that the man was a leader, "self made" thief or millionaire as his British culprits would say.
I would never forget asking my old man why all the side roads around Ojuelegba, Lawanson, Itire, Sure-lere were being excavated by some wired looking white people. My old man's answer was, son you will soon see the wonders of the "white man" Chief Abiola is bringing telephone to every household in Lagos. Does anyone know what became of those pipes that were buried all over Lagos?

The pipes were buried and forgotten, like many Lagosians that died of malaria-invested mosquitoes breeding in those sewer they left open for years. Personally, I think that man should be tried for theft and murder. Very reliable sources have it that the thief maintained a year round Penthouse suite at Waldorf Estoria and other big name hotels around the world.

He, like the rest of the fools, had a chance to make a difference in peoples life, but choose to look the other way, as hope was being turn apart. I guess he never foresaw himself seeking medical care in Nigeria!
Had he invested a portion of his loot in providing and equipping hospitals in Nigeria, he probably would have been saved from whatever poison his brothers "claim" he was given.

You see, in his own case like many things in this world, the chicken came home to roost! In the words of a great American War Hero, Nigeria had a chance to make a difference, they made a lot of money, but they (Abiola, Abacha, Yorubas & Hausas) pissed it all away. How many barrels of Biafran Oil did Abiola and his fellow thiefs give away with the promise "hope" of telecommunication?

Oh I forgot, they even burned down the house that supposedly held incriminating records . Whatever became of that shame? That was another one of his "clever moves" as the Yoruba would say in exultation "Baba inwie ni abiola o". In other words, the thief is a genius!

What a place, umu nna na umu nne, please lets find something more constructive to talk about, the reconstruction of our beloved country Biafra. I don't think our Jewish brethren spend much time dissusing Arafa and Co..

Umu Igbo Ayi ga di!!

You guys should not take me back to the good old days. I am talking about Smokie. How about "Midnight Cafe" and "Little Lucy." Well, going back to the topic, who cares how much the nation's biggest thief contributed to charity. For him to have become president was like Marc Rich becoming the president of the United States. But only in Nigeria, sha.

Sorry my brother. There ain't nothing good to talk about Abiola for the man was a certifiable crook who became a moslem of convenience to defraud Nigerians via ITT. Too bad they got him hang'em high cold blooded. His race should have known better that the Hausas are congenital cerebral assassins and don't give a damn about Yoruba moslems. To them they are not authentic moslem faith.

While he does not deserve to die like a dog, I do not particularly fancy him in the books of common man for one good reason, the man is no Robinhood, the prince of thieves.

Hail Biafra

Sorry,

I've just come back to this thread and I missed the request by my sister Amanda. No, I don't have Smokie cd/tape. Sorry about that.

Abiola, who cares about the crook that stole our oil. He said he didn't need us and God thought a bitter lesson. You can't condemn an ethnic group that has done nothing to you and think that evry thing will be okay for you. He can rot in his garve as far as I am concerned.

God Bless the Land of the Rising Sun

He deserved what he got for his hatred toward the Igbos--jail term and death.

You are celebrating the death of the winner of the most free and fair election in Nigeria. Has any of your Ibo people ever won a landslide nationwide election in Nigeria? Leave Abiola alone jare.

Bamidele:
You are another buffoon filled with ignorance. Do you call Abiola's manipulated "landslide victory" a free and fair election? You must be living in another planet refusing to come to terms with reality. On what ground was Abiola, in the first place, qualified to be president of Nigeria? After stealing public money? You really amaze me.

The killers of Abiola will not get away with it. We are going to catch up with them and they are going to pay. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/africa/newsid_1419000/1419095.stm You people complain and complain but you refuse to fight crimes done to other people.
