All: I have just been informed of the reason that so many Igbo governors and elected officials are coming to America. The US State Department has set up a fund to encourage the spread of democracy in the third world . Money from that fund is being paid to legislative and governorship candidates who have distinguished themselves to become front-runners in a democratic election process in Africa. Each qualifying candidate is to receive $50,000 toward an approved election process. Apparently the winners in Nigeria’s last elections qualify for the $50,000 grant and the money is being paid to them late due to funding delays at the State Department. This is why each one of these governors and Senators makes a mad dash to the State Department as part of their travel plans in the US. Kalu quietly came to Washington to apply for his $50k. Udenwa started his recent visit in Washington and the State Department was on his travel plans. The Nutty Professor, Anyim Pius Anyim, was in Washington a few weeks ago to apply for his. The other Igbo governors have already been to the State Department or they are on their way.
Notice that the Hausa-Fulani governors have no need for this $50k pitting. It is the hungry under-funded Igbo governors and Senators that are coming. Notice also that the rich Arthur Nzeribe is also not coming to America. During his campaign for the US presidency, I did not see the Rich Mr. Forbes taking long flights to a distant land to collect a miserly $50K. Yet, Kalu would like us to believe that he is a multi-millionaire worth over $60 million. That sounds like a 419 story to me. For telling us that he is a rich man, Orji Kalu was behaving like a pauper in coming cap-in-hand to collect $50K from the US State Department. Kalu’s story about being here only to attend a reunion at Harvard is a cover-up.

Frankly my friend, I don't wana run you foul of your opinion but I really don't think that is the reason they are coming to US. Your opinion might be considered significant but not a factor at all.

For causing a great distraction from serious issues in this board, I regret that I have to invoke the "NSHI" recommendation on this your useless thread. Stop wasting our precious time and if you have a funny line, then go to the "laugh it off" column.
Thanks, OU

Ohafia: Before I ask you to uninvoke the Nshi recommendation, and just so I understand your angst, are you saying that the report is untrue, or are you saying that you know a higher purpose for which so many of these governors are flocking to the US at this time?

In Ohafia's own views, nobody should blame the gorvenors for their meaningless trips to the U.S. and the rest of the Western Hemisphere because they are Igbo. Be real, guys!

People, I will not quickly condemn Leo on this issue. If there is any substance to what Leo is purporting, then it is indeed a serious matter. This is supposed be known by the masses and the money collected should be accounted for as well.
For those of you who just side people blindly, I think you should all rethink your stance. I think it is time that we should all come out and stand for the truth and truth alone. Nobody should be above reproach.
Leo can you shed more light on this 50k.

Osetutu: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has an office that it calls the Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI). Working in concert with other parts of USAID and the U.S. government, (the State Department), OTI has developed a program designed to sustain the government of BiafraNigeria. According to OTI, its primary objectives are to 1) prevent military obstruction of the transition to civilian rule; and (2) support the Nigerian movement for structural economic and political reform. OTI has established a central office in the Lagos-based USAID mission and regional offices in Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Kano.
OTI Assistance for the Fiscal Year 1998: was $39,000 Estimated OTI Assistance in FY 1999 was: $5-7,000,000 The details are not clear, but the story is that some of those funds are being made available to candidates for election campaign purposes. How these funds are disbursed is unclear. Apparently, some people are aware that $50K is the amount available for governorship races. I was informed by phone call that the issue of those funds came up during Udenwa’s visit to Washington, and that his trip here was related to those funds. I have also been informed that Udenwa did not deny this when it came up at his briefing in Washington. This is enough for me to raise the issue for discussion. Certainly, we may need to ask more questions, but is that why the matter should not be discussed at all. Why, for example, did the governor not deny it? What was his business at the State Department, etc?

I think that Ohafia should now uninvoke nshi. Otherwise I might invoke ahuru against my own brother, Ohafia. We all know how that smells.
Lets hug and make up. "Iwe nwanne anaghi eru n'okpukpu"
Yet, I'd be very surprised if Kalu came here for 50k : That boy is definitely very rich. I can understand udenwa(Never really understood the guy) coming for that "change" but Orji and Nzeribe own na wa oh !
Nshi uninvoked!!!(To err is human......wink.
Cheers Leo!

Bro Leo Can we not verify this information from USAID somehow? I totally agree with you we need to talk about this, but I find it strange that the U.S. government would be dolling out all this cash to shady politicians which I guess was OU's intial doubt.
If the money was meant for the people and Kalu and Udenwa have secretly collected it, we now have a duty to expose the rogues and possibly seek prosecution in a U.S. court. Why don't we demand clarification from USAID?

Chiboy: I doubt that the money will be made available in the form of cash. That will be unlike the State Department. Additionally, I don't think that the disbursements will be made directly to the governors. What I think is happening or has happened is that funding is provided for the election processes. I think that these governors are positioning themselves to become the sole beneficiaries of those funds when it is disbursed. To the disadvantage of their political opponents, they may be using their positions to manipulate where the aid is directed. In a more transparent system, some of these questions could have been cleared up at Chief Udenwa's appearance in Washington. USAID would certainly be a good place to start an inquiry.
