I want to highlight the high level tribalism going on in the churches in Nigeria. Why I have to mention them here now is that they have started campaigning in churches against 2003.

Aremu (Nigerian president) is not performing, he has made 54 foreign trips within two years he is in power. He has voilated human rights, jumped the constitutions and impregnanted a lady in London within these time he is in government.

In all these what you hear from the south-west preachers are only praises for him. One starts wondering if they are really ministers of God as they want us to believe.

If one should borrow a leaf from the Bible, Elijah talk to Ahab and Jezebel boldly. It is only Tunde Bakare that stands out. From Deeper Life to Redeem are core Oduduwa setup. The Anglican Church is not left out.

Can you believe that Biafrans have formed their church in Festac Town, Lagos. They called it UKA NDIGBO. Here are there reasons:

1. The Bishop of Lagos West sacked the Biafran born preacher in his cathedral because he talked to some people in Igbo.
2. He refused them using Igbo for worship where they have 99% Igbo worshipper.
3. Appointments are tribal basis.
4. They want the coming generation of NDIGBO youths to be able to read the Bible and pray in Igbo.
5. They said that to kill a people first kill their language.
6. They are the highest contributor of funds in Anglican churches in Lagos, while one of the church officials told a group of them that thayt should be happey that thay accommodated them.
7. They want to aid the churches in Biafra and also initiate new projects, like seminaries and health centre. To raise fund to put some places like Iyienu Hospital Ogidi in order.
8. Every year in Lagos they keep on contributing money for one project or the other while no new project in their Biafran area. This year they are working towards =N=20m Babington Seminary. The next is Bishop's court God knows how much.
9. Some donates =N=4m worth of generating set to the Churches in Lagos while in their home church not even 500watts gen set.
10. To integrate the Biafrans into one fold through religion.
11. They planne to have a biafran cathedral afflicted to the dioceses in the Biafra.

I will get the detailed letter exchange between them and the Lagos west Bishop and publish to you.

Please advice other Biafrans to remember their Jeruselm which is their home. Jesus said that 'The children foods are not made for dogs'. In another place He said that I am sent to the lost sheep of Isreal' is He our Lord tribal, no! Therefore, my fellow Biafrans first.

Brother Eby,
Thanks for this posting. I am familiar with something similar. It hurts to think that we Nd'Igbo are more divided today than ever according to the wish of our detractors. In those days our closeness with our neighbors was even more than it is today until the same people that prefer to annihilate us tried to split us apart from them by all soughts of vices. What hurts even more is that we allowed and still allow it to happen.

All,
Concerning our faith in Christ, it is evident that our people from the entire Eastern Nigeria embraced Christianity perhaps more readily than any other region in Nigeria. That explains why the various Christian Missions planted schools and churches all over former eastern Nigeria which pivoted us into big time education to the amazement of our counterparts. In Lagos as a kid, our family worshipped in St Judes Ebute Meta, with other Igbos. The Yorubas owned the big church while they allowed us to worship in the classrooms of the school until we built our own church near Apena. There is no need to recall how our Pastor was killed by his nieghbor when the killing of Ibos becme free for all before the war.
While the going was good as we worshipped in the classroom, we had Igbos from all parts of Igboland coming together to worship using our Igbo Anglican song book and Igbo Bible. My brothers and I sang in the choir then. Everything was in Igbo as translated from English. It was wonderful. We did not envy those who owned and monopolized their big church ediface throughout the years we used the classroom. Now my point is, we can do it again.May God help us. Let those who can pray, pray for Nd'Igbo. It seems to me that we have so neglected our identity and our coming together harmoniously that others are taking us for granted and treating us like crap. God said that when two or three are gatherd in His name that he will be in their midst. Why can't we gather together and form our own churches and forget about others if they are taking us for granted. We are great in singing both in our own Igbo and other ethnic group languages. We should remain with ours. We are God's children but we need to make ourselves available to Him and worship him in spirit and in truth to recieve His blessings in our business. If you visit churches that have progressed in Lagos for instance you will see the solid contribution of the Easterners in that church. Check out what I have just said and you will prove me right. Now, I said we are God's people. This is why. Take a look at what we call God. Chi neke (Chineke), a confession that the God we believe in, is the creator God. Look again at our second name for Him, Chi ukwu (Chukwu ) the God Almighty. Now in the Acts of Apostles Paul and his group in the process of their missionary work saw a people who were worshipping "The Unknown God" which is how they addressed Him. Paul was encouraged; all he did was to reveal to them the God which they worshipped but did not know. As soon as they got the message, they immediately believed and continued to worship God in His newly revealed identity. To me our (Nd'Igbo) faith in Christ can be likened to that. These discriptive names our ancestors called God acknowledge his attributes. So it became easy to accept Christianity which infact did not negate who we thought God was. What varied was our thought of lesser god's who we believed were servants of God in His walk with man. Today we now know that God's messangers are the Angels and that they need not be worshipped.
So let us embrace Christ more confidently as a people and worship Him together in spirit and in truth. Let us forget about others. We are large enough to own our own churches by ourselves and worship Him as we should.

Eby and Emela,

May God bless you both real good!

I have said it on more than one thread that the spiritual element is the missing link in our struggle to self determination. For the avoidance of doubt, I'll paste my posting at the Rev'd Fr Nnorom thread on May16, 2001 05:33am.

quote:

My brother Ukaoha,
I can't thank you enough for providing this link. It is only a fool that will think the present arrangement is working or workable.

Our brother has hit the bull's eye and history and posterity may well remember him in the same breathe as the Desmond Tutus of this world.

I have an unfinished article on my desk where I'm making a case for the revival/establishment of a vibrant Biafran Christian movement(BCM). My reasoning is that the christian heritage which our grand parents embraced and which accounted for some of the giant strides we've made as a people could be the real way forward for our people.

It grieves my heart when I see some of our so called elders running after Ogboni, the abomination of the Yoruba nation. At the peak of our spiritual harlotry, some of our kins in search of contracts started attaching alhaji to their names! How disgusting!

And the Biafran christians? Well some of us have adopted the ostrich approach gullibly pleading to "God" for Naija to remain one without knowing the motivation of some of the chief conveners of these meetings. I know the brother who co-ordinates the eastern zone of Gowon's "Nigeria prays" from my days with IFES. I wonder wether he prayed before accepting the position offered by the Arewa chieftain, the smiling assasin, who was privy to the murder of his superior Aguiyi Ironsi.

God will help us. I feel the time is ripe for us Biafran Christians to be more pro active in the affairs of our people. The Nnoroms and the Chukwumas(testified at Oputa on Asaba massacre) have blazed the trail and we must all follow or drown. The white man that brought Christianity was also involved in building of Schools and teaching of hygiene and also helped to abolish practices occasioned by ignorance eg. killing of twins etc. William Wilberforce was a Christian, and he did not see the compatibility of Christianity with slave trading and he did something about it.

Ndigbo let's pray and work!

Cheers Ukaoha, cheers Nnorom!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's the way to go guys!
OU
PS: There is another good related thread opened up by Ukaoha captioned "The Ohaneze petition @ the Oputa Panel.."
I hope those who think there is nothing to worry about are hearing and reading the news of how Moslems are kidnapping American Missionaries overseas. If they can go that far, imagine what is awaiting the southern part of Nigeria in the nearest future, with Sharia and other underground and open movement by the Moslems in Nigeria. It is either their ways or nothing else. Goodluck to the West, Biafra will be gone.
