On the Nkwerre womens dance I think you mean "Emily nwa anyi na ebi ego" Anyway you are right, it would be good to see somework done on Igbo folk music. They were also people like promoter (I believe he was form the Orlu area and 77 who performed occasional on NTA Aba with his "Ubo" dressed like a woman.

I would also like to see some work on Igbo gospel music. Does anyone know much about Patty Obassey ? I know he had the popular gospel hit "Obu nwa mammy water". I like his use of the Igbo language and learnt a lot from his song on the equivalent Igbo word for many things in the bible. The CD's I have seen from BiafraNigeria have names like Father Ejike Mbaka ( Ihear he is engaged in a local battle with the criminal Nnamani), sister Ndidi amaka etc. seem the be the recent names in Igbo gospel music.

BTW
Do you know were I can get Nelly Uchendu's "Ugbo eburu jane jebe Ugwu Awusa". I will like to add it to my growing collection of classics.

You absolutely right, the Nkwere women is Emily not Nelly. yes Rev Mbaka have performed well, but he is recent works. Not 70s or even 80s. You are also right show promoter is another name on folk music that needs exploring. I think Mazi Nwuda and Dr Okorie just scratched the Igbo Music and talent. That topic is a gold mine.

I think BLO was simply the best rock group in Biafranigeria. Everything about BLO was awesome, their stage presence, their outfits and the songs. What do you think?

You will get a lot of support in that argument about Blo, some even said in the 70s that BLO was as good as some foreign bands. One thing for sure is that Berkeley Jones Ike is probably one of the best Guiterist of all time, and Laolu Akins was a very good drummer. As you can tell from the work they did on Chris Okotie debut album. The drum work in that Album was a good work. and Jones Ike was awsome on the Guiter. subsequent chris Albums produced by Felix liberty didn't fare as well as the first one.

Thanks for the information. I never knew Berkeley Ike Jones guitared for Kris Okotie's debut album "I need Someone." That was an 80's blast. On the other hand, I don't think Laolu Akins played the drums better than Ben Alaka. What do you think? What's Bob Miga doing now? Any clue?

When it comes to drums Ben Alaka is notch above the rest. period he was the best drummer of time, Laolu is good but Ben Alaka of ACTIONS is the Best period.

You are absolutely right. I think guitarist Berkely Jones and drummer Ben Alaka are two of the most original and intriguing musicians to emerge in the 70's and 80s. Both had their own groups, but often depart from them to record in new and challenging times.

Why did you choose Sly Dumbar over Ben Alaka? Dumbar's beat was reggae, you know! I would choose Fela over any player of instrument.

By the way, the follow up to the first article was awesome and very informative. You wouldn't happen to know if Emma China ever played at Orupolo Night Club in Port Harcourt,in the 80s? I was told he married the daughter of Nnanna Kalu. Is that true?

Orupolo was probably most popular joint for Musician in the 70s, last time i was at orupolo was in 1979, man I loved it, the dance hall overlooking the ocean was awsome those days. yes The wings probably played Orupolo several times. as for his wife I am not sure, I know that his wife is some where from Ohafia or Abiriba. Because in those days, Reginald the drummer of rock of ages married girl from that area, Jane Orji Eke.

Does your compilation include Strangers' "Survival" and Independence Matata's "I believe Her"? 1 would like to buy the right to the master tapes and probably do some remastering. Maybe we should work together. What do you think?

Reread the Thread we are talking about musician from east of niger. Bongos Ikwe is a talented musicia in his own right. as a matter of fact after heads funk of Port harcourt, Bongos recruited Feladay to be his guiterist. is is not about your dysfunctional Nigeria.
