Peerless:
I grew up in Uwani Enugu, my family still lives there. I guess what Madiebo is alluding to is that some of the Military heads of state became heads of state by default. They were not the originators of the actual coup from which they benefited as the head of state. Based on that arguement, Gowon, Obasanjo, and Abubarka should be exempted from prosecution for usurpation of power through force.
This does not mean that their leadership is not illegal. They cannot be exempted from the illegality of brute power siezure. They had the option of refusing the offer and resigning based on principle. Since they accepted a position that came from usurpation of power, they are equally culpable, and must have some idea about the planning and organizing of the brute takeover of government by force.
I am suprised that Madiebo believed this lying scoundrel Obasanjo, about his retirement benefit. It was all politics, in Obasanjos's mind the Igbos and other eastern treacherous minorities are conquered people, as such can be treated as the victors wish.
We believe that judgement is coming, and it will come in due course so that the wickedness they pepertrated will be revealed to the world to see.
