...Kalu Changes Gear, Campaigns for Obasanjo
From Kingsley Emereuwa in Umuahia

Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu has finally succumbed to the superior might of the Presidency by expressing optimism towards President Olusegun Obasanjo's second term bid in 2003. By this new position, Kalu is seen to have, jettisoned his crusade for the emergence of an Igbo President in 2003, a cause he had single-mindedly championed.

Kalu who was speaking in Aba yesterday at a ceremony to mark the 58th birthday of his mother Mrs Eunice Uzor Kalu also said that the ceremony which attracted the presence of the wife of the President Chief (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo has marked a new and more cordial direction in his relationship with President Obasanjo.

According to him, such disagreements with the President was only what both of them needed to strengthen their relationships.

Continuing, the governor explained that he is expecting the President to declare his stand whether to run or not to run for the 2003 presidential election latest by December this year, adding that he was optimistic Obasanjo would seek re-election.

"We are waiting for December when Mr President will take a decision whether he will want to run or not, I hope he will want to run."

In a subtle campaign for Obasanjo, Kalu stated that the re-election of the President in 2003 would help the country check-mate the military from truncating the country's nascent democracy for their selfish gains.

In his words, "Instead of us to allow the military to come up here, we will find a way to wage them, we have to make sure that we at least stabilise democracy, we need that stability and a sense of direction," he said.

The governor who was the first person to openly oppose President Obasanjo's second-term bid, over alleged marginalisation of the south-east with regards to infrastructural development and federal appointments also prayed for more cordial relationship with the President henceforth.

"There is no family where mother and father do not quarrel, father and children quarrel, there is nowhere that there is no disagreement," Kalu reasoned, adding that what is important is what such disagreements lead to.

In her speech at the occasion which was attended by Governors Mohammed Lawal and Abubakar Audu of Kwara and Kogi States respectively, as well as Dr Hamilton Isu who represented Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mrs Obasanjo extolled the political sagacity of the governor's mother.

She noted that the exploits and vigour of Mrs Eunice Uzor Kalu during the presidential campaign in 1999 was what helped to ensure the victory of PDP in the state.

While commending the governor's mother for her humanitarian posture especially to the less privileged, Mrs Obasanjo advised women who aspire to achieve success in their political career to evolve strategies to touch the lives of the people.

She said that going by the pioneering political activities of Mrs Uzor Kalu, there is a clear indication that Nigerian women could make a headway in politics and described the event of the day as one intended to bring the political classes together to demonstrate unity of purpose.

THISDAY's sources reveal that the sudden capitulation of Governor Kalu over his erstwhile war with Obasanjo may not be unconnected with a parley being initiated by Senator Arthur Nzeribe in his bid to ensure President Obasanjo's return to power in 2003.

The Senator from Imo West who has for sometime now been a regular visitor to the Abia State Government House was also among dignitaries who graced the ceremony, as well as the wife of Rivers State Governor Mrs Mary Odili.

Ohafia

Never be surprised by anything you hear from home.Virtually every soul in BiafraNigeria is for sale, which is what surprises everybody about the persistence of Uwazuruike and MASSOB.

There is confusion in the land believe me not even Aremu has a clue as to what to expect. The truth is BiafraNigeria is standing on it's last leg and when the time comes the "cash and carry" Igbo leadership will swept into the rubbish heap with their master.

This was the fool who proclaimed himself the savior of Nd'Igbo. He backed down from his blind ambition after we made it clear to him that we would not allow him to wield authority over all Igbo, in light of his opportunistic sabotage of MASSOB. One good thing out of this is that we now know that Kalu's stupidity has limits. He knows when he has no prayer because superior forces are arrayed against him.

It will be interesting to know if Ohanaeze (the self-appointed bunch that they are) has also abandoned their clarion call for an Igbo president in 2003. Pretty soon, they too will be announcing their support for 'Obasanjo 2003.' Yet, this is the gang of opportunists that are said to speak for Nd'Igbo. Tufiakwa! When it comes to Ohanaeze, I am still holding my fire in abeyance. But, if Ohanaeze ever launches attacks on any pro Biafra groups, then all bets are off, and I will not rest until that group is disbanded. The gIgbo intelligentsiah (or whatever they call themselves) are on notice. If you do not want Ohanaeze destroyed, tell Ohanaeze to guard its tongue about pro Biafra groups. Otherwise, we are going to put and end to Ohanaeze, just as we put an end to Kalufs 2003 presidential ambitions.

Respect for elders?....Yes, but allow senility and selfishness to perpetuate the status quo? God forbid no.

Kunle, it was such unguarded respect that allowed your sage Awo to lead the Odua right back into the failed state called nigeria that it now finds itself. Throwing away a golden opportunity to your self-determination.

Seemingly they still mean business. But however, it is the same old song.

YCE, PDP chieftains align for Obasanjo's re-election

From Iyabo Sotunde and Kola Alade, Ibadan

BARELY a week after the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere barred its members and all governors of Alliance for Democracy (AD) from further campaigning for President Olusegun Obasanjo's re-election, another group, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), at the weekend declared it support for efforts to ensure his return to Aso Rock in 2003.

Already, the YCE has set up a committee to fine-tune strategies that would aid Obasanjo's re-election.

The group's President, Pa Emmanuel Alayande who disclosed this at the first meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders Forum (South West Zone) held in Ibadan at the weekend, added that the committee, headed by former Minister of Justice , Chief Richard Akinjide is mandated to work assiduously to smoothen the president's return to power in spite of stiff opposition from the homefront.

The octogenarian whose speech was read by former Information Minister, Chief Kola Balogun, said the YCE would soon embark on campaign from ward to ward to achieve the goal.

"The best thing that can happen to the Yoruba is having President Obasanjo rule again. Though YCE is a non-political association, we have a duty and we are not going to shirk our responsibility. We are going to work assiduously to clinch the presidency for President Obasanjo in 2003 in spite of shift opposition in some quarters," he pledged.

The Afenifere last week in Lagos banned its members, including AD governors, from backing Obasanjo for another term.

Akinjide in his speech at the forum warned the leaders of Afenifere against opposing Obasanjo's re-election.

According to him, "If Afenifere does not support President Obasanjo in 2003 it will become irrelevant in Nigerian politics."

"We are lucky to have Obasanjo as president, imagine what could have happened if otherwise, I would not have performed better than him. We have to beg him to stand for the election again.

Akinjide, who admitted that it is not easy to unseat the incumbent governors, asserted that it is rather possible for intelligent politicians to unseat the "setting governors".

"AD did not win the last elections in the South-West but other parties lost it. That will not happen thus time. We all have a free playing field, we will match their naira with naira and their dollars with dollars. We are not going to rig as they are crying about but we are going to win fairly," he asserted.

Also speaking after the YCE three-hour meeting yesterday in Ibadan, its secretary-general Justice Adewale Thompson warned Yoruba politicians against using provocative statements in their campaign.

The council otherwise known as the "Igbino Agba Yoruba" promised to publish its findings on why the race should support Obasanjo's re-election.

Justice Thompson who spoke with reporters pointed out that the leaders resolved that politicians of the Yoruba nation should restrain themselves in words and actions by avoiding provocative statements as part of the campaign strategy."

His words, "Citizens of Yorubaland, are tired of fighting each other for political offices and would implore all politicians to eschew bitterness and inordinate ambition so that peace and harmony may continue to reign in the nation."

The YCE chief who said that the council would not encourage violence in the South West, reiterated the organisation's commitment to improve the well being of the Yoruba.

Meanwhile PDP elders in the South West have agreed to prevail on Obasanjo contest the 2003 presidential elections.

Consequently, they have called on the party leaders in the cone to put in position without delay to devise organisation techniques that will enhance the party electoral fortunes in the elections ahead.

The elders who converged at Premier Hotel, Ibadan South-West Elders Forum believed that Obasanjo's readiness to stand for a second term in office will help consolidate all his programmes of cementing unity, stability and good governance in Nigeria.

In a nine-point communique read after the meeting attended by five serving ministers and notable PDP stalwarts, the elders condemned the persisting unguarded attacks on Obasanjo by Afenifere and AD leaders and warned all Yoruba to be wary of moves by them to subvert the laudable politics of the Federal Government.

The elders maintained that Nigeria is greater than all the citizens, hence, "we note with delight President Obasanjo's laudable policy of involving all stands of political opinion in his government but the beneficiaries of his gestures should reciprocate such with unalloyed loyalty and devotion".

While calling on all Yoruba to rally round the government of Obasanjo to ensure that no vote is lost in all the forthcoming elections they passed a vote of confidence on all the PDP leaders in the South-West and saluted the National Vice-Chairman (South-West) Olabode George's untiring efforts in promoting peace and unity within the party.

Folks,
This is amusingly interesting. So Orji Kalu is no longer the Igbo savior who must run and win Nigeria's 2003 election, huh?
Whatever happened to his ordination by God for "Igbo Presidency"? Hahahahaha!!!!

You see, when these inferior-brained idiots are sprinkled with stolen Biafran money by their thiefy Awusa/Fulani/Yoruba tinpot tyrant masters, they suddenly halucinate about being "God-sents" to Biafran masses. Same goes for the so called ohanEZE. These efulefus keep forgetting that there's a limit with which they can take and bask in their evil follies. The Gods and guardian Dieties of Igbo/Biafra lands are boiling hot in rekindled anger. Once they are invoked properly on these defilers, they are quite swift in their vengeance.

Don't you see that Mbadinuju and Ezeh are embroiled in poetic justice of "snake swallow snake" kind of brawl? In the end, both shall perish.
Now Orji Kalu feigns that Aremu is a better man and candidate than he can ever be, after his treachery against Ndigbo/Biafrans was exposed, huh? This backward idiot's case is a stern warning to all those money bag-self appointed dictators who think that they can pull their raggy wool over the Igbo/Biafran masses and step on Igbo/Biafran Deities and get away with it.
Pretty soon, AlaIgbo/Biafra will cease to harbor these evil efulefus.

The lines are drawn and swords unsheated for 2003. We will all be witnesses to Obasanjo's attempt to succeed himself and his northern masters' swift deflation of this sly attempt of his. The ohanEZE idiots will be cut in the crossfire and be shown "nwinyi" (let me borrow halucinating Sam's phrase). Orji Kalu will be rendered homeless, stateless, and country-less.

Let’s take solace in the fact that none of us here needs to agonize over the propriety of querying the other with the hackneyed "didn't I tell you?” The semi-illiterate didn't fool us and could not have fooled the other Igbos. We decoded him way back. There is wisdom in the Latin aphorism of nemo dat quod non habet.

Let’s see what he comes up when he celebrates his father's birthday. May be, we’d have to wait a wee bit longer.

Ladies and gentlemen don't lose sleep over this. Orji Kalu looked in the mirror and discovered that his certificate issues are yet to be resolved he then made 360 degrees. Another thing is that the last visit to US by Orji Kalu didn't go to well for him. Remember there are still question regarding how Orji Kalu made his money. Also the Jos Ekwueme issue will continue to dog Kalu in the East.
