Archbishop Calls US Bombing Morally Tainted

The leading contender to become the next Archbishop of Canterbury has attacked the West's war against terrorism, denouncing military action in Afghanistan as "morally tainted".

The Archbishop of Wales, the Most Rev Rowan Williams, said the bombing campaign in Afghanistan had lost credibility and was morally equivalent to the terrorism it sought to defeat.

When does campaign against terror become worse than terror itself. The bombing of civilians in Afghanistan, the treatment of prisoners of war. Has America been given carte blanche to violate human rights and rules of civilized behavior, all in the name of fighting terror?

There is nothing humane about the barbarity of putting people in cages and subjecting them to sensory deprivation. According to Amnesty International,
quote:
The prisoners are shown kneeling down, wearing goggles, ear muffs, surgical masks and heavy gloves.

The chief medical officer of the human rights group, Amnesty International, Jim West, said the photographs were reminiscent of torture methods used in eastern Europe in the 1970s.

America under George W MUST take care that it does not turn into an Evil Empire. I will have more to say about the implications of these human rights abuses under the Geneva Conventions.

Adekunle et al.,

Hypocrites! Did your fathers, uncles, etc. give a hoot when they laid waste Biafra and Biafrans? Did they care about Biafran widows and orphans? Even now do you and they care as the cyclical orgy of bloodletting goes on? The biblical injuction of removing the log in your eyes before bothering about the speck in another's couldn't be more apt.

Its in repulsive bad taste for scions of the proponents and advocates of "starvation is a legitimate weapon of war" to shed crocodile tears about goings-on in far away Afghanistan. What about your own country? Have you tried to atone for your sins and those of your forebears?

More from Camp X-Ray

Anu Nti:

Take a chill pill. Two wrongs do not make a right. Is it not hypocrisy for you to ask for justice for Biafra and wish it denied to others?

Adekunle,

Never said that justice should be denied the Al Qaeda mercahnts of death, just that you and your ilk are doing their cause serious damage by being their advocates. You do not have the moral high ground, period!
