High-calibre weapons exploded as fire at an army munitions dump in BiafraNigeria has caused dozens of huge explosions in Lagos.

The force of the blasts in the Ikeja area near the airport shook buildings and shattered windows in the city centre, 15 kilometres (nine miles) away. Reports say there could be many casualties.

The weapons of the evil army are blowing up in their faces.

Nwokeoma:

You beat me to it. I just spoke to a close friend in Lagos and he said it was/is horrible. His neighbour's window pane shattered at Ogba.

GSM services for Lagos has been suspended so they can't even call their loved ones and reassure them.

One catonment has been wiped out just like that, and they say it is a small fire in a small market place. If Ibadan mechanised Division ruptures then the West would have had it.

As usual the most important thing is for Obasanjo to remain in the saddle. The whole country can be blown to smitherens and they couldn't be bothered.

That is one less munition dump for the North to worry about. Tinubu and others who are rejoicing that it was not a coup should wait and see. It may not be a coup, but it sure does not hurt future coup plotters from the North for them to know that the munition dump at Ikeja will not be used against them. I expect similar 'accidents' as we approach 2003.

The paradox of life!

The weapons which were designed to protect them, and for use against the Biafrans, have instead killed them!

He who lives by the sword, shall die by it.

It is reported that $12 million worth of weapons were blown up. Not bad for a country where there is no healthcare, nor can they pay pensioneers their pensions, etc etc.

A bunch of incompetents with an arsenal enough to make the world shudder.

Buy the arms, they can, but they cant figure out how to store it?

To me this is good news, one less bomb to kill us with.

Good riddance to another bad rubbish. The Ikeja cantonment? Where is the Umuahia cantonment? As unlikely as it may be, my hope is that there were no Biafrans killed in the blasts. The omnipresent Nd'Igbo are probably the owners of those stores in the market where the fire is said to have started. What asinine reason could there be for storing dangerous explosives near a market?

The north has started the slow war against the South. Moving the capital city of BiafraNigeria from Lagos to Abuja was only the beginning. Phase 2 in the north's plan requires that the military capability of the South be decimated. Then, it will be time for the final putsch. Blowing up Ikeja cantonment was an important first step in that exercise. Now, at least 200 are dead. Ironically, the deadly explosions have illuminated yet another aspect of the BiafraNigerian darkness.

The death toll has climbed to over 500.

I hope there is some semblance of rescue effort going on.

2nd Mechanized Div., Ibadan next in the line. Yet, "I dey kamkpe".

While ndi Awusa continue to amass their state-of-the-art arsenal (thanks to Biafran resources) through Niger and Chad Republics, the obsolete trash in ofe nmanu land is being decommissioned in a most practical manner. No dogo turenchi. Ranka dede!

The picture above tells a story Nigerians know all too well.

And that is: Tragedy, despair and pain, all in the name of "one-nigeria"!

I just listened to the BBC broadcasts. The only good thing about this will be if we actually learn from it.

1) BBC Report

2) Afikuyomi says No fire service, No ambulance to speak of.

What a country, This is 1965 all over again. Remember it started with riot in the old western house. Now fast forward to 2001, the fracas at Osun State Assembly, the killing of Bola Ige, now the Military Explosion. Do I need to say more.?

Patrick is hoping for a rescue service! I heard Afikuyomi on BBC World Service. According to him, Police were heard warning their men, on their radio, not to go near the Ikeja barrack. Imagine the emergency services in New York warning their men to avoid the WTC on Sept 11 2001.

Some responses from BBC write-in, but the one that caught my attention I have in quote. A respondent called it worse thing to ever happen to her nation. Really?

quote:
I live with my family in Maryland less than a kilometre from the cantonment. In the morning on Sunday I had gone out with my wife to attend some meetings and visit a friend. Our plan was to attend evening mass in Ikoyi 15-20km away near the city centre. As we were on our way, my junior brother called me that he had just heard a mighty explosion which seemed to be coming from the direction of our house. He was at this point about 2 kilometres from our house. I asked him to go home and check what was going on and headed home via the third mainland bridge.

Not quite 20 minutes later he called me to say that something seemed to be wrong at the cantonment and that he suspects the armoury was on fire and advised us not to come home as it could be dangerous. He also told us that the glass windows of our house had all been broken. I told him that regardless, we will come home. I asked them to take care of themselves especially my two little boys aged 3 and 1 and my pregnant sister.

There was no police, no security, no emergency services at all

James Agada, Nigeria
As we descended the Third mainland bridge, we ran into a chaotic situation with cars frantically turning and running in all directions. Our efforts to call them on the phone failed as the network became overloaded. We managed to turn around at this point and headed towards Ojota. When we got to Ojota, the full impact of what was happening hit us. There was a sea of people screaming and running. Despite people asking us not to, we turned towards our house and now we could see the huge fire and the explosions. It seemed to have already engulfed our house ( which it did not). As we slowly drove through the mass of people towards the direction of our house and the inferno, we suddenly saw one of my cousins stays with us calling us. He ran up to us and said they had left the house earlier on and trekked the 3 kilometres or so to where we met them. They were all safe.

The huge crowd kept surging past with everyone increasing their pace as the explosions continued. There was no police, no security, no emergency services at all. We were able to gather everybody from my house together and we drove to our friends house in Okeira Ogba where the explosions could only be heard faintly. We slept on the roof of the house tired but thankful that none of us was hurt.
James Agada, Nigeria

All I can say is, I hope our government will do something to alleviate peoples sufferings, those who've lost their homes and their means of livelihood. My family and I just moved as far away as we could after the first three blasts. From as far as Palmgrove, some 2KM away, we both heard and felt the blasts as our building actually shook. We could also see the balls of fire and rockets exploding in the air. It was awful, but we're grateful to God it didn't get any worse.
Tunde, Nigeria

quote:
This is the greatest tragic event ever to hit my beloved country... Nigeria. But the question to ask is this - Who is the architect of this bizarre occurrence? Nature, Act of God or the foolishness of our Security agents and their employer? One man's negligence led to untimely and sudden passing on of hundreds of useful souls. The Lord in his infinite mercy grant those that lose their lives eternal rest and their family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Fashoranti Samuel, Nigeria, Lagos

The Funny Man of Aso Rock Plays Dr. Jekyll

Only in BiafraNigeria! The BiafraNigerian president has

quote:
demanded an explanation from the military after explosions at an army munitions dump killed at least 600 people in the commercial capital Lagos.

"The military must carry out an inquiry to find out exactly what happened, how it happened, who is to blame, if anyone is to blame," President Olusegun Obasanjo said.

This is a clear case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? The only difference is that this particular Dr. Jekyll is hopelessly incompetent and Mr. Hyde is equally dumb.

Some of you are wondering why a munitions depot is located in a residential neighborhood. Where else would you expect the Nigerian army to locate its munitions depot? After all, the weapons were meant to be used against civilians. Does any BiafraNigerian in their right mind really think that the Ikeja dump was meant for fighting any foreign armies?

According to the BBC,

quote:
Nick Braley, who was less than a mile away from the barracks, told BBC News Online that shells could be seen exploding in the sky. The noise was like thunder, he said.

Another eyewitness, who gave his name as Phil, said he was at his parents' house when he saw a "mighty mushroom plume", which was followed by "an ear-shattering blast that set off car alarms on the usually quiet street".

Mushroom clouds, shells exploding in the sky over residential neighborhoods, etc, etc. Who says BiafraNigeria is not a nuclear power? And, this is the army and airforce whose commander-in-chief was going to launch satellites into orbit?

Now, more than ever, Biafrans must extricate themselves from the BiafraNigerian disaster.

People in Lagos are said to be angry with the thug that calls itself the military. Now what?

Was this military depot not the garrison the brute Murtala Muhammed and his cohorts popped up and slaughtered every Igbo military officer they could lay their hands on? And yet, Nigeria hails the bigot as a hero. This is just the beginning of a nation that embraces injustice.

I only hope our people in the Isolo, Oshodi and Ikeja area weren't victims.

How many more lives will this Bafoon at Aso Rock waste before people show some type of courage?

How many?, as the chief law enforcement officer of that thing called Nigeria, is it not his reposibility to safe guard life and property? As the so called commander in thief, is he not responsible for what his thugs does and/or fails to do?

OMO Oduduwa, were is the outrage! This lies squarely on his lap. He failed all those dead people floating in the water.

He is so busy "managing" resources, that he does not know to safe guard the most valuable resource there is, are people!

Mr. so called President Resign! go back to your farm before its too late. People are dying throughout BiafraNigeria and you have not done anything about it.

You have absolutely no vision, if you did, you should have seem this coming! Next would be those old neglected "flyover" death trap you call bridge. Since those things were erected, no maintenance has been done on them and beleive me one of these days, they will come tumbling down; the only thing I pray for, is that your carravan be on it when it happens!

Lets see if anyone is held accountable for this. They have just sacrificed hundreds of lives for nothing.

Ammunition dump in an urban area, God help us, please God deliver us from these idiots. This confirms that all those Arewa and Oduduwa soldiers I see at US War college and School of Americas leave having as they came, empty headed!

Incase anyone is wondering, I have met lot of them(Army, Navy, Airforce), not once have I seem a Biafran son among them!

Take this as a remarkable lesson in how not to be.

I refer everyone to my previous threads on emergency preparedness in Biafra, as a necessity, and not a luxury.

Unfortunately, this kind of news is prototypic of Nigeria: tales of incompetence, and evil, they should hold this people guilty of manslaughter at the very least.

Once again, the acute hypocrisy: when some people die there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, but when they go on their routine genocidal killings, it is quickly hushed up...because this is Nigeria, where some are born to live and others to die.

The sooner this mess of a country is disbanded, the sooner will there be hope at least for a decent life.

Obasanjo tells mourning Lagosians to shut up !!!

I hope Obasanjo's kinsmen are reading this. As they say, "the mad man hardly feels as much shame as his close relatives"

Shut up. I took the opportunity of being here to see what could be done. I don’t need to be here"

"Shut up. I took the opportunity of being here to see what could be done. I don’t need to be here"

"Shut up. I took the opportunity of being here to see what could be done. I don’t need to be here"

"Shut up. I took the opportunity of being here to see what could be done. I don’t need to be here"

Our born again Christian president sure knows how to comfort grieving people. For the records Lagosians are reported to have told Obasanjo: "Mr President, go inside" as the bombs where still exploding. This was not orchestrated by the "anti Obasanjo" elements at BiafraNigeria World. The frustration is going round.

Meanwhile his garrison commander Brigadier-General George-the-animal Emdin in his first statement said: "there was absolutely no loss of lives"

Epilogue: they'll be buried in mass graves today

Already, the story is being twisted before our very eyes

quote:
He said he visited the Cantonment before coming to Katsina and that there was no cause for alarm and thanked Nigerians for their support.

Could this be coming from the same bloke?

quote:
Shortly after addressing the residents, Obasanjo who was apparently acting on security reports that visiting the centre of the explosions was unsafe later discussed in hushed tones with Tinubu outside the cantonment before departing for the airport enroute Abuja.

I see why Lagosians told him to "go inside".

Folks,

If theese were not in print, would we believe this calous bufoonery? Yet, as far as the Yorubas are concerned, everything is OK. I was at OmoOduduwa.com and it was nauseating how they were all oh'ing, gosh'ing and lending each other shoulders to weep their wretched crocodile tears on. That's why the place is permanently headed in the wrong direction home, and at top speed to booth.

As our Lord Jesus Christ told the women of Jerusalem on his way to Calvary, those lost lives (especially the kids, what a sight!) say to Obasanjo, Tinubu and all the other carpet baggers, weep not for us, rather weep for yourselves and your children. They have gone to rest, and are now spared the lack of elecricity, pipe borne water, malaria, cholera, chaotic transportation, ill-equipped schools, wicked governance, etc. We the living have to continue to put up with those, though. Who is the loser?

No cause for alarm... huh?

Bodies pulled out of a canal in the Isolo district of Lagos. Distraught Lagos residents pulled the bodies of more than 580 people, many of them children, out of the canal after a massive crowd stampede fleeing an arms dump explosion at Ikeja Cantonment... Sunday

Ifeanyi:

Yes. Ikeja Cantonment was the location where Igbo officers and men were rounded up and murdered in cold blood by Gowon and Murtala Muhamed in 1966. I hope that all the beneficiaries of that slaughter perished in this explosion.

Obasanjo has told those who are mourning to 'shut up.' This was the same mad man who wanted to come to the US to condole the grieving Americans after September 11. Now, George Bush is getting a chance to see the bush man he is dealing with in Abuja.

Death toll could be as high as 2,000!

quote:
Vanguard says that as many as 2,000 people may have been killed during the series of explosions.
