This one pass me o, how did Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu get his PH.D with out a bachlors or school certs?
From ThisDay: Why Kalu Returned to School, By Aide
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Abia State, Mr Chuka Odom on Monday described the focus on Governor Orji Uzor Kalu's return to school and the controversy about his school certificiate as part of the plan to frustrate his political ambition.
He said there was nothing wrong in the governor going back to school, pointing out that the action did not impede his performance in office.
"The governor reserves the right to go to school, like any other Nigerian, at any moment of his life," he said.
Odom said Kalu returned to school to prove a point, explaining that he was at the University of Maiduguri between 1979 and 1983, but could not complete his studies in Political Science for political reasons.
He said that the governor went to court to obtain a declaration on his West African School Certificate and not to validate it since no court could do so.
Odom said since the state governor had pre-empted his opponents by the court action and returning to school, his adversaries were "capitalising on some trivialities through a programme of disinformation."
He stressed that Kalu did not need any certificate but wanted to prove his ability and put to rest some issues his opponents might want to capitalise on during the 2003 elections.
He stressed that the process of transfer of Kalu's academic records at University of Maiduguri to Abia State University did not violate established norms, adding that the governor did not attend classes as Visitor to Abia State University, but as a student.
Odom said it was the office of governor that was the visitor to the university and not the person of Kalu.
The Abia State Government also described reports that President Olusegun Obasanjo's pictures had been replaced with those of Vice President Atiku Abubakar in its offices as mischievous.
Odom, told newsmen in Umuahia on Monday that anyone who removed the picture of the president from government offices must be insane because such an action amounted to a denigration of the Office of the President of Nigeria.
"The whole thing is intended to portray us as barbarians who do not know any elementary thing about governance," Odom said. "Removing the president's photograph will not solve any problem which the president might have with the governor," he said.
He said the writer of the report might not have known the implication of the story, pointing out that while one might not like the person of the president or state governor, his picture was a representation of the office he occupied.
Odom said apart from portraying officials of the state government as lunatics and mentally retarded persons, the report also presented them as felons, "that is an action, next to treasonable felony," Odom, a lawyer pointed out.

People should go to school before they try to become governor. We cannot have him wreck Abia for four years and then go to school.

Why not resign first and then go to school. Running any state should not be left in the hands of on the job training candidates.

Does he think that the court can get people to stop speaking the truth?
quote:Kalu sues Abaribe for libel, claims N100m From Gordi Udeajah,Umuahia
MAKING good his threat, the Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, has filed a suit against his former deputy, Enyi Abaribe for defamation, claiming N100 million as exemplary damage.
Abaribe who was Kalu's runner up in the governorship polls on the ANPP platform is being sued for the publications he made in his petition to the Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia concerning the governor.
The suit tagged Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (MON) was filed on July 9, 2003 at Umuahia High Court by the government's counsel, Chief Awa Kalu (SAN).
Kalu (the plaintiff) claimed in the suit that Abaribe (defendant) had on or about May 19, 2003 made false and malicious publication concerning him (plaintiff) in a document/petition which he (Abaribe) filed at the Registry of the Governorship and Legislative Houses Tribunal Umuahia (Tribunal) not read in the open court.
He cited such false/malicious publications as that Kalu, being the first respondent in the said petition was ab initio, disqualified to contest the last governorship election because he was a member of two secret societies, the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity (Ogboni) and AMORC, hence the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria disqualified members of secret societies from holding public office.
He also alleged that the governor did not possess the academic qualifications, hence he parades and did present a West African School Certificate (WASC) No. SC124685 of June 1979 which does not belong to him as he did not sit for the said examination at Government College, Umuahia.
The petitioner also alleged that it was to cure this defect in the validity and ownership of the said certificate that led the governor to institute an action against the Principal of Government College, Umuahia and WAEC in suit HU/23/2001 - Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu (MON)vs UCC Elekwa, (Principal, Government College, Umuahia and Another) at the Umuahia High Court. That the said case was heard in camera and the judgment delivered by the Chief Judge of the state on March 27, 2001 before 9 a.m. against the practice in Nigerian courts.
According to the suit, the defendant had in his petition to the tribunal averred that he shall at the hearing of his petition lead evidence to show the facts concerning Kalu's membership of the secret societies and certificate saga.
The governor also in his suit seeks the court's order of perpetual injunction restraining Abaribe (defendant) and his agents, or privies or by any means howsoever from further publishing or causing to be published the aforesaid words concerning him or in the alternative for him N100 million against the defendant as exemplary damages for injurious falsehood.
He pointed out that after publishing the said falsehood in the petition, it (petition) was distributed by him (dependant) and his agents to all and sundry and that many national newspapers were on the trail of the highly salacious allegations made by the defendants in his ill-fated document.
The plaintiff became infuriated that when the petition's hearing began and progressed to the stage Abaribe was ordered to produce the evidence before the tribunal, he rather than do so, applied to withdraw his said petition.
Besides, Kalu in the suit argued that in 1999, he contested and won the state governorship election with Abaribe (the defendant) his running mate who thereafter became the deputy governor sometime in 2003.
Reacting to the withdrawal of Abaribe's petition from the tribunal, the governor directed him, Abaribe to prosecute same till the end and allow the tribunal to establish or not his (governor's) guilt or in the alternative apologise to him publicly or face a libel suit in default -- YORUBA GUARDIAN

If Orji Kalu received his honorary doctorate degree form any institution he donated money for, or helped increased its endownment, in my own opinion, he should be referred to as Dr. Kalu and we should respect that.
