Why is this issue being ignored on this forum ?Some of our brothers have been imprisoned for standing up for Biafra and apart from Okwyonwuka's reminder some days back this issue has been totally ignored by Biafrans on this board.
Are we to busy to tackle such an important issue or would we rather talk about an idle and ignorant instituition like "Osu"? Did Obusonjo discriminate between Osu and Diala when he jailed these Biafrans or do they discriminate when they slaughter Biafrans in Arewa territory? How can we help our brothers, do they have lawyers ? Your ideas please.

Thank you for raising this issue again. I think what should be done is to get some lawyers to take the BiafraNigeria police to court over the issue. If they say we are running a democracy, then every citizen has the right of expression.
Every citizen also has the right for justice and to seek redress from the court.
I think we should support MASSOB back in BiafraNigeria financially for this purpose. On the other hand, this forum can decide to get in contact with lawyers in BN and file a case for those Biafran brothers who are being humiliated.

Who would have thought that such a law would be proposed in a supposed democratic dispensation?
quote:Section One of the bill as proposed by Obasanjo says "no group of persons, associations of individuals or quasi military group shall retain, organise, train or equip any person or group of persons for the purpose of enabling the group of persons or association of individuals to use or display physical force or coercion in order to promote any political objective or interest, ethnic or cultural interest, and social, occupational or religious interest".
Sub section two of Section Two also states that "any association dissolved and proscribed pursuant to subsection one of this section shall cease to carry out activities, duties or functions for which it was formed." It also states that "no person shall manage, take part in or encourage the management of the association, or take part in any meeting of the association whether or not the meeting takes place in a private or public premises and no person shall take part in any procession conducted by the association or any person associated with the association, or acting in furtherance of the aims of the association".
A law like this could easily be used to proscribe Ohaneze, WIC, and any Igbo group that the moron in Aso Rock considers to be a threat.
Those of us that are fighting for Biafra are not doing it in furtherance of BiafraNigerian laws. So, a law like this means nothing to the Biafra movement. The ultimate targets of the proposed Stalinist law will be the so-called one-Nigerianist Igbo organizations. Just watch.
Chiboy: We are going to have to demand that Uwazuruike and Uche Okwukwu set aside whatever personal differences they have so that we can return to the task of freeing those detained MASSOB activists. Those detainees turned out to be the very first casualties of the distractions and scandals that rocked the movement. There is no better time than now for them to set their differences aside and return to the business of Biafra liberation.

I am glad you are already onto something, I will definetly be in touch.I hope everyone looks at this situation seriously and understand the importance of not ignoring our brothers in times like this. We need to do everything possible to help them.
Damian In addition to supporting the legal defence team of the jailed MASSOB members, how about notifying the various human rights groups out here about this situation. I believe groups like amnesty international can help at least with publicity if furnished with names of the detainees.

Last year, I was involved in sending information about BiafraNigeria government's atrocities to Amnesty International. What we discovered later was that there are some Igbophobes and Biafraphobes of Nigerian (Ngwati) extraction who are influential within Amnesty International. Unfortunately, those persons played an important role in what Amnesty International published about BiafraNigeria.
In their last report on the human and civil rights records of various countries, Amnesty International glossed over Obusonjo's hideous human rights record. That should not prevent further effort to bring the plight of those detainees to their attention.
The last report was published at a time when the West still held out some hope for Obusonjo's success as a leader. Now, that all such hope has evaporated, I expect that they will start to look more honestly and more closely at the human rights record of the butcher of Odi.

If you look at what has happened in venezuela today, you will come to realize that nothing is set in stone where the West and democracy are concerned. Hugo Chavez mistook the verbal support for democracy that emanates from the western capitals to be a "carte blanche" to turn himself into a pseudo dictator, now how many people are weeping for the dearth of democracy in Venezuela ?
Obasanjo can go ahead and turn himself into a dictator and proclaim any laws he likes. He can even get his parliament to rubber stamp it like Saddam normally does, all that will do is make it easier for the next rogue general that will inhabit Aso Rock. Like you rightly stated, the laws will be for BiafraNigerians not Biafrans who have already declared their desire to go their own way. I don't know much about BiafranNigerian laws but freedom of association is a basic right in civilized socities, Obusonjo will only make it easier for the human rights people by passing such stupid laws. Amnesty international and co. will soon be forced to look into the cases of people wrongfully detained for agitating for Biafra when such dictatorial laws are legitimized.
On our own we owe it a duty to keep shouting till those guys are released. We cannot be talking about Biafra and turn a blind eye when people are incarcerated for no just cause. This is a test of our resolve and like you said everybody must put aside their differences and give this issue adequate attention.
Okwyonwuka Hang in there, this issue is not going to disappear that quickly from this board. Once again it is time for us all to make that little sacrifice, nothing is too small to help our brothers.

Folks, Nobody can do it better than us, this is our duty, if we do not fight for the freedom of our peacefull foot soldiers who else will do that for us, if we are really fighting for Biafra, this will mean the starting point, let us make things happen, we are capeable to engage any challenge no matter where it come's from.
Obasanjo is our enemy, let us give him a pratical challenge. those guys did not commit any crime but obasanjo is delibratelly letting thier spirit die in jail. Let us bring them out of that place that they do not belong or we quit talking about Biafra. this is our challenge.

After what Amanda did, you are going to have lots of trouble getting anyone to give their information to you for the petition. I have become very suspicious. If we want to send a petition, we have to do it secretly.

My brother I have learnt to look beyond Amanda, I will never get to understand what lead her to do what she has done but the cause is greater than her so why should we be deterred ? I am not asking for anybody's personal information, but Okwyonwuka has mentioned that we can help their legal defence team. Since they already have a lawyer, what personal secrets do we need to reveal to do this ? Money is obviously an issue and we can help by using money orders that reveal no personal information.Okwyonwuka's has taken the lead so let's back him.
We only need to send the names of these guys and where they are incacerated to those who might be able to help. I also signed those petitions you speak about, but if you prefer we act behind the scene send me a P.M. no effort will be too small on this issue.

Some of the things you say on this forum have helped to convince me that Nd’Igbo must maintain the Osu/Efulefu system. Here is some $$$$$$$$$$$$. Go and buy yourself a clue!
Chiboy:
You are my kind of Biafran. Go and get the petition ready. I will gladly sign it with my full name. I am not afraid of anything or anyone in Nigeria. We all have one life to live. I have decided that Biafra is worth dying for.

quote:British citizen Leads MASSOB Protest in London From Olusegun Adeniyi in London, 11.21.2006
There was a mild drama in London yesterday when about 15 men burst into the Queen Elizabeth Conference Centre in Westminster, to disrupt the formal launching of the Heart of Africa project of the Federal Ministry of Information. The men, led by a white man and claiming to be members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Biafra (MASSOB), threw the venue into confusion by shouting derogatory slogans against Nigeria and the government in power. Information and National Orientation Minister, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr, who was on the podium making his presentation at the period, became an object of verbal attack by three of the activists who rushed to the stage to accost him of selling lies about a government they alleged “has been killing Biafran people.” Brandishing posters bearing gory photographs of mutilated bodies they claimed to be “Biafrans” killed by the Nigerian authorities, the men said the only way forward for the country was for Nigeria to “be divided into North, East and West.” It took the security men who were apparently taken unaware about 15 minutes to restore order after dragging out the unrelenting white Briton who led the MASSOB activists. Speaking with THISDAY outside the venue, the MASSOB gang leader said he was fighting “because the Obasanjo government has been killing my people. Go to Onitsha where about 700 people have been killed in the last four weeks and you will see what we are saying.” Asked as to his interest in “Biafra” when he is clearly not a Nigerian, the MASSOB leader responded: “My wife is from Biafra and I am prepared to die for my people. The government is killing my people and we cannot keep quiet. We will fight this battle until Biafra is created. Nigeria is a dead country”. When asked for evidence that the Nigerian government has been killing “Biafrans”, the gang leader and his team comprising Nigerians of Igbo extraction, said they were being supplied information on a daily basis as to how the State Security Service (SSS) operatives were killing anybody associated with MASSOB. Aside Nweke, prominent people on the podium at the time of the drama included former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr Christopher Kolade. Yesterday's programme was the climax of a three-day event designed to sell Nigeria to the world through an exhibition of its arts and crafts, culture and costume, as well as the richness of its diversity through selected photographs. The project, according to Nweke, was conceived to “reconstruct perception of our country and position Nigeria as the destination of choice not just for tourism but for investors and indeed for adventure seekers.” Nweke added that the “Heart of Africa” project represents a unique way of telling the Nigerian story in a manner that “partly defines who we are and why our nation is the hub of social and economic activities on the continent. Indeed, from whichever perspective it is written, and provided it is objective, the Nigerian story will explain why we say if you haven't been to Nigeria, you have not been to Africa”. In her opening remark at yesterday's session, leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Amos, said Nigeria is today confronted by three challenges that would shape the future of the country and indeed that of the continent: How to ensure free and fair elections next year; how to sustain and deepen the current economic reforms programme and tackling the Delta question. Amos reminded the audience that the 2007 polls in Nigeria represents important watershed for Africa because whatever happens would reverberate across the continent. “Nigeria must get it right to consolidate democracy in the continent”. In his preface to the project, President Olusegun Obasanjo stated that the work would “address the challenge faced by people and institutions that wish to genuinely explore our history, culture and importantly tourism potential, but who lack accurate knowledge to do so.” Obasanjo added that the work represents “a creative archetype of our identity, a very rare combination of beautiful sceneries dotting our landscape and an expression of many generation. It speaks fluently of our commitment to constructively redefine our identity and showcase the unique resourcefulness and natural endowment that signpost our existence.” In his keynote address, former Commowealth Secretary General, Chief Anayaoku said Africa is today a continent in transition and tomorrow a continent of hope with Nigeria “as a true reflection of Africa and as such, is at the heart of the continent.” According to Anyaoku, “Nigeria’s geographical location, its human composition and history, its place in the global setting, its assets and liabilities, its warmth and openness, its energy and vibrancy, its wealth - potential and actual - the grandeur and richness of its culture, all these are attributes that make Nigeria a reflection of Africa.” The three-day event, which ended yesterday with an info-documentary, had several Nigerians from home and the Diaspora in attendance. From the government were no fewer than eight Ministers, including that of Finance, Mrs Nenadi Usman, her Education counterpart, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili. There were also the Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Sani Yerima, NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Dora Akunyili and many others. From the UK were MP Mark Simmond, Richard Morgan of Unilever and Nick Blazquez of Diageo Africa. Nigerians in the Diaspora included Mr Adebayo Ogunlesi of Credit Suisse, Ms Patti Boulaye, Mr Segun Aganga of Goldman Sachs et al...
