Folk,
This is what is going on in Achike Udenwa's Imo state, the 419 governor. Please read, the point is that ACHIKE UDENWA MUST GO.

Imo workers on strike over non-payment of salaries
OWING to the non-payment of their salaries for an upward of four months, workers from different public sectors in Imo State are on strike.

Two weeks ago, the academic and non-academic staff of Alvan Ikoku College of Education and the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri began a strike.

And while primary and post-primary school teachers went on strike two weeks ago, work is also almost paralysed in the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, Owerri, where the workers in both the radio and television stations embarked on a strike last week for the same reason.

Only the management staff of the broadcasting organisation, led by the Director-General, Mr. Chinedu Nzeribe, are rendering skeletal services, forcing the station to go off the air regularly.

Already, the nurses association in the state has given the government a strike notice, while some other professional groups have held series of meetings on the next line of action to enable the government pay the outstanding salaries and allowance of their members.

Pensioners are also fighting to get the arrears of their pensions, while the state branch of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) demanded the immediate release of April allocation to the councils without deducting primary school teachers' salaries.

Imo ALGON Chairman, Shah Okorie condemned the present situation in the state where funds meant for the local councils were delayed and over-deducted.

In a broadcast to mark the third anniversary of democracy on Wednesday, Governor Achike Udenwa said that the government had great respect for human dignity and welfare of the workers.

His words: "As I am sure you will readily remember, when we took over governance, Imo workers were groaning under the excruciating pangs of many months of unpaid salary arrears.

"We took the bull by the horn and cleared those staggering arrears owed workers and pensioners totaling more than N800 million."

Udenwa noted, with regret, that in recent times, the government had not been able to maintain the enviable record of prompt payment of salaries due to a sharp drop in the nation's revenue.

"This is not peculiar to Imo State," the governor said, adding: "I will like to assure all Imo workers that we are doing everything possible to arrest this sad development in the shortest possible time."

The governor thanked the workers for their understanding and patience in these difficult times, and gave an assurance that the situation would not persist longer than necessary.

Chima,

Why are you picking on this fine Governor. The reports I have on him contradicts yours by a mile or more. Let's keep him for four more years.

Am I to take it then that you do not want Udenwa returned as the governor of Imo State? If not, who then to you want us to support? Please no need to call people names.

Yes brother I agree with you Ednuttunde is a derange fellow with mental problem. Mr Ednut please stay away from Igbo iisues because you are not an Igbo man. The only reason you are defending this 419 Governor is because he is supporting your master,s Baba Iyabo's reelection.

Ednut,
I dont know why you think i am picking on your so-called fine governor. You are focusing on what you are being told by other people, but i was on the spot and saw things for myself. While i was there, i personally interviewed a cross section of Imo citizens, civil servants, teachers, market woman, retired men and women, everyone said the same thing. Thumb down for Udenwa. Are you saying all these people are wrong?

Physically, there is nothing to show for his stewardship. He sent his men overseas to convince people like you that he is doing a good job when in reality he is doing nothing. Now that election is drawing close, hence his damage control moves. If you visit rivers state you will see the difference. Gov. Odili of rivers state and Lagos state Tinubu are making some effort to improve the lives of their citizens, in their respective states.

What has kept Nigeria down till today, is the acceptance of incompetent men in position of leadership. Udenwa should be sent packing from Owerri come 2003.

I believe that you did, but you may have forgotten. If my memories serves me well, without having to resort to resaerching the archives, your moms is from Mbaise area and you are from Abia State.

NEPA in Owerri,
quote:
When contacted in his office, the NEPA PRO, Mr. Ositadinma Ugwuafor, simply said: "Don’t blame NEPA, blame nature."
Kalu may not be the best governor in the East, but when the feds failed to service the so-called “federal roads” in Aba, he threatened to tear down their toll booths. I heard that Udenwa is helping the Jihadists to build a mosque in Owerrii.

Sorry, don't tell me! They have twisted the story to read that Udenwa "ordered the mosque to be demolished." That is political propaganda planted by Udenwa's supporters.

Ednut,
I am beginning to regard your posts on this board as satires. However, if you are serious and wish to be taken so, then its time you furnish us with the content of "The report" of your "fine Governor." Its only then that those like us who have been to the breadth and width of Udenwa's Imo State and seen first hand how he has turned the once beautiful and prosperous state to a garbage dump ground will respond in kind.

As I suggested not long ago, I honestly think you MUST visit Nigeria (eastern Nigeria especially), so you can FEEL what we shout on this board everyday. Until then, I (I guess every serious forumite) ought to regard your useless posts on this board as what they are--SATIRES.

I second that OJOTO:

The more things change the more they remain the same!

Check out what the guy is saying: From The Guardian, Charles Ogbugbuaja- Owerri

I have done well, says Udenwa

CONVINCED that he has served his state creditably, Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo on Wednesday, in a radio and television broadcast titled: "I Have Delivered", declared that he had completed a total of 38 road projects since May 1999, the largest number by any state.

Thirty-three other road projects, he added, are ongoing.

Taking a stock of his achievements within the period, the governor said a total of 423 Secondary and Primary School blocks have either been renovated or constructed, a feat which, he said, was achieved through the combined efforts of the State Ministry of Education, the State Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) and the State Primary Education Board (SPEB).

He also commended the Imo State University, Owerri, for clinching the best state-owned university position, according to the grading of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

Udenwa said about 102 communities have been electrified and provided with transformers while 51 water projects are either ongoing or completed.

He also urged workers to bear with his administration on the delay in their salaries, noting that it would be solved before long.

He remarked that a total of N800 million was expended on assumption of office in 1999 to pay the backlog of salaries.

Udenwa told Imo people that seven National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) injection sub-stations have been erected in Onitsha Road Industrial Layout to boost industrialisation in the state.

He said soon, the Okigwe Regional Cattle and Orlu Regional Markets would be commissioned.

The governor expressed gratitude that many new banks have opened offices in the state thus boosting employment opportunities for Imo people.

He pointed to the increase in number of vehicle in the state as sign of a buoyant economy.

"Available statistics from the motor registration office, Owerri alone shows that there has been over 200 per cent in the number of vehicles registered between 1999 and 2001," he said.

He added that ten two-storey building secretariat under construction would be commissioned in few months.

He used the opportunity to urge Imo people to register in the forthcoming voters' registration exercise.

"Our participation in a democracy begins from our registration as voters. We must not toy with this opportunity," he said.

Go figure guys!

What kind of hogwash is Udenwa spewing. Teachers in Imo State have not been paid their salary since he appointed his fellow 419er as Commissioner of Education.

My uncle back in Biafranigeria used to tell us " Madu lere onwe ya ule ya si na ya passi la, mana mbge onye nkuzi biara lere ya ule omata na ya darada". Meaning when somebody gave himself an exam, he will definitely score a passing grade, however when an outsider gave him the test he will find out that he failed woefully. Mr Udenwa is engaging in a self agrandizment, that is his option as a 419er, however the people of Imo State will say otherwise.

You are definitely right Udeonwu is stroking his ego, what else do we expect from an efulefu do nothing Governor, who is appointing only 419ers as commissioners and directors. I am not surprised he is tuning his own horn.

Guys,
You ain't seen/read nothing yet. What you just read is a tip of the ice-berg when compared to what some hungry propagandists cum journalist feed their dwindling audience from Imo Broadcasting Corporation Radio and Television stations.
As soon as you tune most of those rusty propaganda machines on, what you hear goes thus---The first citizen of the state (as if there is a fight over that tittle) has... Then the type of lies you read above follows.

When I visited Orlu (Udenwa's town of origin) a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine who was driving with me on one of the gully "tarred" roads cannot help asking "what amount of money these idiots (the radio duty announcer) get for telling these broad-day lies?" The lie being that the same road we were driving on was claimed by the Duty Announcer to have been "tarred" by the State government. That broad-day lie and the million dollar question that followed bugged my mind then and still does now.

One saving grace, to show how disgusted most Imonites are with these Stations, before I left, the FM branch of the IBC has been off and on air for lack of private sponsors to most of their boring programmes.
By their action, it seems ordinary Imonites in a sense are teaching Udenwa and his co-travellers what true democracy is and should be: power belongs to the PEOPLE and they will give and take it when they want.
From what I saw especially in Imo state, I tell you, the day of reconing for these fraudsters is near.

Ifeanyi,
It is not just teachers, but retired men and women, who served the state honorably. Civil servants are also owed several months of salary.
The Great ITV and IBC are all off the air right now. The situation is very parthetic in Imo state, and the so-called governor is coming to the USA,wasting the peoples money and at the same time lying about the state of things in Imo state where he governs.

It is very sad especially when you have seen the rot this guy has turned Imo state to, first hand. While i was in Imo state i learnt that the construction of the state secretariate building along portharcout road has been awarded to several contractors over and over and over again, so that everyone will make their own money without doing the job, this is since the inception of this addmistration in 1999. This guy has alot of explaination to do to the people of Imo state.

The responsiblity of everyone of us here is to call home and tell our people not to vote for this guy "UDENWA" come 2003.

Ed,

Should we deny our state on the basis of one stealing and incompetent a.s.s.hole? Isn’t doing so like denying our Igbo heritage on the basis of all the efulefus that are turned loose on our land? Can’t do that, instead we must (less the liar-in-chief, weber of course who supports every rogue simply for sharing awusa invented state creation), continue to shame them and their families while we await pay back time, soon.
