Saturday 1st June, 2002 By Tony Edike, Enugu
STUDENTS of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Akwa, Anambra State have threatened to disrupt the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the institution billed for today if the Ikemba of Nnewi, Chief Ojukwu Odumegwu Ojukwu’s name was not restored in the list of honourary award recipients during the event. The Student Union Government (SUG) of the University alleged in a statement circulated in Enugu Thursday that the name of Ojukwu was removed from the list of those to be honoured following a letter written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Ekaete by a member of the University’s Governing Council, Mr. Sidi A. Ali. A copy of the two-page letter dated March 30, 2002 which was presented to newsmen by the aggrieved students reads: The vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa, Professor Pita Ejiofor without the knowledge of the University Governing Council of which I am a member appointed by the Federal Government announcement (sic) the awards of four honourary degrees to some BiafraNigerians which are Igbos with Professor Soyinka from the West.
While the main issue is Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu who with his new label of calling for Igbo president come 2003, I think this is a very dangerous political move. :”The council has decided to postpone the convocation, hoping the Education Minister, Professor Babalola Aborishade will intervene. Allowing Ojukwu to be given such an honour and the speech he is likely to deliver on behalf of other honourary graduands will be volatile and dangerous at the time some people are calling for the so-called IGBO PRESIDENT.
This will create a very serious problem for us. “I have spoken to two Igbo ministers and found that they are afraid to make comment. “I will expatiate on a personal call, possibly on return from Ilorin to see the Chancellor of the University, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Sulu Gambari who himself was not consulted and only heard the fixing of convocation day and selection of the awardees on the air.” The letter was signed by Mr. Ali. The UNIZIK students in their resolution at the end of their meeting in Akwa, stated that the name of Ojukwu was consequently removed from those to be honoured at the convocation, an action they said has hurt the students. The students said the peace and stability of this university has been threatened.
The students said in the resolution, which was signed by Okoye Ogochukwu Secretary General, Iroagbu Martins, Director External Affairs/PRO and Nwagu Kenneth Chikezie, Executive President, that Ali’s action had no doubt “x-rayed and anatomised tribalism and ethnicism of the highest order.” “It is also believed to be based on selfish political reasons contrary to the assumption that education, which is believed to be a unifying factor common to all, should be detribalised and devoid of naughty political manipulations,” they added. According to them, the activity of Ali was a very big slight on the Igbo nation, and BiafraNigeria in general. The consequent removal of Chief Ojukwu’s name from the award recipient list was a clear case of injustice and calculated attempt to perpetuate marginalisation of Igbos even in their own land.
They stated, adding that the act did not go down well with the entire students of the University, the Igbo students and the entire BiafraNigerian students. The SUG, however made a 7-point demand which they said was a pre-condition for holding the convocation including the restoration of Ojukwu’s name in the award list. They demanded that an open letter of apology be written to Ojukwu for the slight on the Igbo nation and BiafraNigerians within 24 hours.
Is it not wonderful to read that some Igbo efulefu are now afraid to spout anti-Igbo gibberish.

We knew it will come to this eventually. So Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, the General of the people's army, is banned from receiving an award from an Igbo University in Igbo land. Ewu ata m igu n'isi!
Chei chei!
If this is the best Igbo can do, then may I suggest we get together and disband the nation. Heck! Tell me it ain't true. An idiot shariarist called Abubakar Rimi could stroll in confidently into an Igbo congressional meeting in the USA in defence of Sharia that has cost so many Igbo lives. The same clown could be given a "friend of the Ibo" award in Ibo land and then given another award at the University of Calabar without anybody lifting a finger on his much publicised inciteful statements.
Patrick:
Aside from your accurate observation on the fear of the efulefu servants, they have also confirmed what we have always known: that the hausa-fulani use Igbo rascals in office to belittle respected Igbo leaders.
This is a step too far and our response is going to be very decisive. Any Igbo who is found to be even remotely involved in the present plot to insult the Igbo in Igbo land will curse the day S/he was born. Enough is enough.

Any Igbo who ignores that warning does so at his/her own peril.
Additionally, the Nigerians are advised to hasten the departure of Mr. Sidi A. Ali from Awka.

Pat, OU, Damian, Onwuatuegwu, Umu Biafra,
This is just the beginning. Every society has its mores. The Western Democracy has checks and balances. Igbo traditional system has more than that. They are to be stringently applied in dealing with the efulefus henceforth.
As per Dim General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu anyone or institution that treats him without due regards and honours appertaining to His Excellency status, must be sanctioned.
We are watching with acute sense of mission on how this story from that almajeri is ended.
It is a pity some people still live in the past. They still do not get it. They underestimate our resolve to their own peril.
The New Generation is here to assert and secure its interests.
And this includes due Honours to our HEROES, dead or living.
Onwuatuegwu,
Prof. Pita Ejiofor is the VC. He took the initiative of honouring one to whom honour is due. Sidi Ali, the almajeri, is probably a member of the governing council.
I hope he gets the message clear.
If Dim is not honoured as originally planned, no University in Alaigbo will be allowed to honour anyone with any honorary Ph.D, be it in Awka, Nsukka, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Uli or Futo.
And make no mistake about this, we have the capability to execute any agenda we set for ourselves or rather that we are compelled to undertake as in this case.
It is good that the Sidi Ali, the almajeri spoke.
That makes us more resolute than ever.
That reawakens our eternal vigilance.
All Hail Biafra, The Land of Freedom!

How interesting! The Hausa-Fulani see a need to "detribalize" education in Igboland. But, when the Biafra Consortium took a fine step to "de-tribalize" hausanet, the jihadists issued a fatwah.
The biggest mistake that the Hausa-Fulani/Yoruba made in using "Igbo rascals in office to belittle respected Igbo leaders" is that those rascals are of efulefu stock. They are persons who cannot win a fair election in Igboland.
As we deal with the "rascals," it will not be Igbo against Igbo. It will be Igbo against efulefu.
Olugbuo:
I too am glad that Sidi Ali is not Igbo. Therefore, we don't have to worry about those garbage states (Imo, Anambra, Delta, etc.) that the Hausa-Fulani/Yoruba use to create distractions amongst us. The day we accept the notion that a misguided almajiri could determine which Igbo is honored at an Igbo or Igbo sponsored institution is the day we disband the Igbo Nation.

Tuffiakwa chukwu ekwela ka aru me na ala, it is a tragedy in Igbo land when an uncircumcised ewu awusa can come out and tell a university in Igboland not to honor the people's general. I hope I wish that whatever that ewu awusa calls himself he better keep his gworo tinted to over there in the north, and don't come to Igboland.

Damian my brother, Umu Biafra
We are solidly implanted in Alaigbo and around the world. That day will never come!
Those who regard themselves as our enemies know this to be very true.
They know how ready we are to take on any eventuality that threatens this state of affairs in any way.
Ikemba and all our true heroes alive are sleeping well now. They know that today and the tomorrow of Igboland and its well-endowed people are in sure, safe, secure and in very capable hands and resolute souls; the hands and souls of The New Generation
As for the names I used in my post, they were intended to reflect some University points in some parts of Igboland, not all parts as Ndiigbo are there as well in Delta, Benue, Rivers, Akwa Ibom etc.
They were not meant to subtly accept the wicked balkanisation of Alaigbo. Happily that would become a thing of the past soon.
As you know, our group which Okwy is currently overseeing its activities because I am told the Co-ordinator is doing a bit of travelling for personal reasons, is committed to Igbo unity.
If I recall properly, that is the first of the Four Cardinal Challenges Ndiigbo Generation 1960-70+ have put forward as the challenges of our time.
Encouragingly, we are systematically doing justice to all those Challenges on our TASK MENU.
We must not relent.
