Forumites,
Oftentimes when Obasanjo's corrupt and grossly inept government comes under attack, Obasanjo's dwindling image launderers keep reminding us that without "messiah" Obasanjo Nigeria would have ceased to exist. They even make the Abacha-like fraudulent claim that Obasanjo is democracy and vice-versa. That any day Obasanjo ceases to rule Nigeria that democracy (as if what Nigeria has presently can be described as democracy by a sane person) will come to a halt.

After watching the first ever (in German history) 75-minutes Sunday televised Presidential debate between the centre-left present German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his opponent the conservative Edmund Stoiber, I came out with the impression that if Obasanjo really wants civilized people around the world to take him and the 2003 election (if it will ever hold) serious he should allow a nation-wide televised American-style (as the Germans did yesterday) debate involving ALL candidates nominated by their respective parties.
At least that will afford Obasanjo the opportunity to tell Nigerians why he is the ONLY person "qualified" to govern them and to give ordinary Nigerians and people around the world the chance to compare his MESSAGE (if he has any) to that of his opponents.

Whatching the way both German Chancellorship candidates carried themselves and deligently answered EVERY question did give most Germans I spoke to after the refreshing debate a sence of WHERE and WHAT each candidate stand for. That is the beauty and benefit of such unhindered debates.

I remember when Obasanjo was asked by Nigerian journalist to face his then opponent Falae (not that I would have voted for him either) in a similar debate prior to the rigged 1999 (se)election, he (Obasanjo) for reasons now clear to most people dragged his feet until the debate was cancelled.
Now that the REAL Obasanjo has been exposed and now that everyone has seen how important these debates are, my question is will Obasanjo come 2003 also run away from the people he wants to rule (not govern)?

As someone his apologists has often told those who care to listen that some of his opponents, especially the candidates of Igbo extraction are "no match" to their candidate, how would you Forumites in your humble opinions weigh Obasanjo's chances in a televised ISSUE-ORIENTED duel between him and say Ike Nwachukwu, Alex Ekwueme, Okadigbo, Idika Kalu, etc. Lets not even mention the the "man of wit" Ojukwu?

Since the taste of a pud is in the eating, if Obasanjo believes in himself like Gerhard Schroeder clearly does he should use that once-in-a-term oppotunity to tell the people DIRECTLY how he has led them in the last four years and why he wants to govern (not rule like he did in last four) them for another four years.

Will he do that and if not why? Who and what is he afraid of?

State of the Nations Address, silly, personal,no hope, lacks substance and no manisfesto, vintage Obasanjo. I guess Nigerians can go home and live with "All is well" because Obasanjo spoke.

What has IBB and Atiku got to do with the nation? His statement on these two stoogies should have been a press release rather than the nation. These guys are no threat to the nation. Actually, Aminu is a threat to nation.

He will cry if Aminu is killed. Now tell me whose administration is it to over rule the Sharia? A President of a nation cried, when he has enormous resources to prevent him from humiliation. He said he does not have no problem with Sharia, yet he stated that Sharia, is an obstacle to foriegn investment. Naaaaaaa waooooooooooh. What a President?

This man only addressed his accomplishment and left his failures. He did not tell Nigerian people his total economic package for the future. If he did, with the regards to the violence, he failed to tell us what he intend to extinguish the violence. Why he was being impeached? There was no vision or hope in his speech.
If there is anything the Yorubas have done more good than bad, it is the outright rejection of this man for being such a jerk in Politics of intelligence. Although he still retains his tribalist no how in Yoruba politics.

Hail Biafra

Waypoint:
I even learnt that while the guy was giving his unstatesman "state of the Nation" address that electricity went off.

By that singular act, those unpaid workers at the State-owned energy supplying company (NEPA) have shown Baba Iyabo what the TRUE state of the Nigerian nation is for millions of ordinary Nigerians.

As for his "I will weep..." nonsense, the world is watching. I learnt from a friend in France that there was a protest march in front of the Nigerian embassy in Paris yesterdy.

We here in Germany are also watching. Should that poor woman be excecuted, we will not only "weep" but we will CELEBRATE the end of that stone-age Islamic law in northern Nigeria.

It is time for people of good conscience from around the world to ACT to save not only Amina but also the poor helpless Nigerians from the grip of this self-styled "democratic" dictator.
