For a long time now, Ojukwu has been saying that he wants to pass “the torch” to a new generation. Sometimes he calls it a "batton." On one occasion, he even indicated that the torch should be snatched from him.
Remember this picture?
Some people have suggested that Uwazuruike already snatched the torch or that Ojukwu handed it to him in Washington on September 29, 2001 at the "Biafra House" debacle. But, Ojukwu says he is still holding the torch and he has not seen the right person to pass it to.
First of all, does Ojukwu really have a torch to pass? Where did he get the torch? What is the torch all about? Does anyone want the torch? Which torch is Ekwueme carrying?

Ike, Yes, Ojukwu has a touch to pass, he's got this touch from his uncompromising commitment to well-been of NdiIgbo world over, when it seems like Orji Kalu was about to snash the batoon from him, the whole Igbo nation got exited with great expectetion only to be diluted with the illusion that follows. yes, he has a touch to pass, he is the father and symbol of modern Igbo.

Brother Ike yes Ojukwu have a Torch to pass to somebody, that Torch was given to DIM Ojukwu in 1967. when people like M.I Okpara, Ibiam, Mbanefo, Dr Ogbonna, Amanze Njoku, and Many others urged him in 1967 to declare the Biafra republic and also to head that Republic. That was when the Torch was gievn to Ojukwu. Even Zik drafted Biafra National Anthem, yes they gave Ojukwu that Torch. When Ojukwu as Eastern Region Governor sent Mobile Police to Northern Nigeria in 1966 to rescue Easterner whom were been masacared by the Awusa jihardist, Ojukwu relutantlty took the torch. When Ojukwu went to Aburi Ghana in 1967 and held African leaders spellbound for over two hours, Ojukwu had the Torch.
Now tell me any other Igbo leader who have stepped up to the plate since then, to even try. My brother the answer to your question is every where. Go back and read Aburi accord, you will find answer to your question, go back and read Ahiara declaration you will find answer to your question. Uwazuruike had a chance to take the Torch, unfortunately his appetite for fast women and ego got in his way. for that reason the Torch went back to the person who have been holding it since in 1967.
Biafra did an excellent job in aswering the question that you posed. The only thing I need to add is to beg you to go ahead and read all that Biafra recommended that you read. Please do it and you will be a better man for such readings.

The idea of passing a torch or batton suggests that the person receiving the torch will continue to do the thing that was presently being done by the person that passed the torch. What is Ojukwu presently doing that we all should be very proud to continue? It seems to me that the torch was passed to Ojukwu and he carried it for 3-years, and then he gave up. The torch of Odumegwu is one torch I do not want passed to me because I no longer understand what that torch stands for. Posts: 397 | Registered: May 2001

I stand by what I wrote in 2002, especially now that Ojukwu likes to call Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba people to undermine another Igbo man.
quote:Chief Okorie when asked if he knew what prompted the news twist said: "Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu has bombarded the Presidency with protest calls, saying he was suffering the humiliation of being denied a nomination to the conference and that the greatest humiliation would be to allow me to participate in a conference from where he has been shut out."
Ojukwu is now carrying the torch of Igbo Efulefu. He has become onya akpa eli ozu.

If Ojukwu had anything to pass, he has fully passed it to Chief Mike Umeh. So, Umeh now has the "Odumegwu torch," whatever that means.
