Folks, I think it is time for you to start singing Hail to the Chief for Obasanjo's second term.

Today is the D-day, the day 3,349 delegates representing the rank and file of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will file out to elect the flag bearer of their party in the April presidential elections.

As at press time, given the high stakes, intrigues, moves and counter moves, this election is still too close to call even as President Olusegun Obasanjo has regained momentum when he got 18 of the 21 governors elected on the party's platform to endorse his candidacy.

If that endorsement holds as there were moves last night to break it, and if he continues to enjoy the full support and confidence of his Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, then his victory today will be by a very wide margin.

But if the tide changes, and some governors defect and Atiku hesitates, then Ekwueme might snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Read the full story on pages 2 to 5.

The tide will not change. Happy New Year.
