When will the Nigeia populace rise up from their slumber and wage a revolution against these type of individuals that run the government? Where did they get the money? Even poor governors and ministers of yesterday are already giving out millions and why is OBJ not rejecting this money? God help poor nigerians. TGIF.

National Convention Was Successful, Says Obasanjo

PDP raises N2bn for campaign
From Kola Ologbondiyan in Abuja

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a move considered a bold step towards the re-election of President Olusegun Obasanjo for the second term, the presidential fund raising dinner held in Abuja yesterday raised about N2 billion for the campaign. The ceremony was still on as at press time.

But in an apparent reply to the call by the Alex Ekwueme President Campaign Organisation (ALEPCO) that the national convention at which Obasanjo was returned as presidential candidate be rescheduled, the President said the national convention of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in which he and Ekwueme contested was successful adding that other parties tried to emulate the PDP but fumbled.

Obasanjo spoke at the fund raising dinner where the Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, brought the largest donation "from associates and friends" to the tune of N1bn.

Atiku's donation, which came in the form of cheques and drafts was pulled from Aliko Dangote's N250m; Tompress N240m; Emeka Offor's N200m; Femi Otedola's N100m Peter Okocha's N20m; Mike Adenuga's N10m; Ocean&Oil's N10m and Otunba John Fasawe's N6.5m among other supporting donations.

The 21 PDP governors apart from promising the president their unflinching support, also donated N10m each which added up to N210 said their chairman, the Nassarawa State governor, Abdullahi Adamu.

The Council of Ministers was represented by the Information and National Orientation Minister, Professor Jerry Gana, who announce a donation of N10m on behalf of all the ministers.

The Senate's N12 million donation was announced by the deputy senate president, Ibrahim Mantu. From the friends of Obasanjo and Atiku in Rivers State came a donation of N150 million announced by Prince Uche Secundus.

The national Vice Chairman of the PDP in the South-west, Commodore Olabode George, also announced donations from his friends totalling about N43,200,000. As at press time the representative of GAONI Board of Trustees, Alhaji Muktar Shagari presented a member of the group who announced that a Boeing 727 Aircraft is ready to convey the president for his campaign tours until he (Obasanjo) takes the oath of office even as the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Vice President, Chief Olusola Akanmode announced a donation of N11m on behalf of the staff of the Presidency.

Obasanjo, who spoke shortly before the fundraising begun, said the "PDP is a pacesetter that would win the general election because Nigerians believe in good government and greater Nigeria."

I'm not suprised. What do you expect from a bunch of criminals.

The frustrating about it is that this is our money that they stole in the first place and they will get it back again in form of contracts awarded to them.

They all should be shot!!

This unilateral action without consultation has to stop in Igboland, otherwise this is our worst curse!!!

People we dont know will easily be foisted over us, just because they have "godfathers" to give them external clout to purchase grassroot Igbo support to destabilize Igboland!!!

What we are seeing is just the beginning of the worst to come. Soon an Igbo man will be asking his fellow Igbo "who are you?"
