Last week NigeriaWorld Messageboard finally found love. Like a sex maniac, in search of a new thrill, nothing else mattered. Not even the feelings of contributors who invested their time.
The writing was on the wall for a long time. But few took notice of it. Before the ultimate betrayal, there was the unexplained loss of the huge archive of people's posts. Those who valued their time went as far as offering money to recover the archive only to be advised that it was technically impossible. Those who seriously believed that Nigeriaworld invented the internet before Al-Gore was born opened new threads to organise an award for its philanthropic webmaster.
Like it or not, one of the enduring features of the NigeriaWorld Messageboard was the post-crash award to the webmaster to thank him for all the hard work. But this is a crash like no other. The voices of praise from Walekuku to emir kongi to Ajibola Robinson have been silenced. We shouldn't let that happen.
I am therefore opening this thread to enable everyone make the usual post-crash award speeches to the webmaster of NigeriaWorld Messageboard.
Even in their absence, we will quote their post crash award speeches. I know that is what emir kongi would have wished.

I think that you are not very fair with the administrator. You can't imagine the job that he does behind the scene. He could have asked everybody to pay at least ten pounds per month to use the board.
Technical problems are inevitable. My only fear is a tendency of tampering with our freedom of expression. But, in the future he or any other person can inform us through this website, thereby solving the problem.
However, if you want to subscribe, you need to apologise to the administrator or change your username to something other than Sulaak.

quote: For few days, the board was not accessible, exactly between 6th to 10th April running inclusively. Now we noticed that there is a partnership. But was the partnership forced or negotiated, prepared for or not? We are yet to know. For the moment, we have Nigeriandateline.co.uk instead of Nigeriaworld.com/board. If the owner(s) of Nigeriaworld/com had wanted to sell part of the asset, maybe some Nigerians on this board would have bought some shares to render the board again "more Nigeria" than before. 42 years after independence and of partnership with "co.uk", it is time Nigerians start thinking ".Ngr", that is some done by Nigerians, managed by Nigerians and for Nigeria. I am sure that if there are two boards treating Nigeria's issues; one on "co.uk" and the other on ".Ngr", Nigerians would normally go for the latter. Secondly if the owner(s) of Nigeriaworld.com/board experienced any pressure because Nigerians express themselves, then it should be made known so that we can protest. That is the only fear or worry. The pressure could be financial, and some Nigerians buying shares could go a long way to calming the situation. The discussions on this this board or the two old boards are no different from what obtains on the TV, in the Newspapers or on other message boards. We all know that when we do not fight for our rights, nobody would give them to us. But if the above hypotheses are wrong, then if we are informed that the board will not be accessible for one or two days, everybody would wait without asking, "what's going on?". I suggest that if such interruption occurs next time, those who are aware could inform others through the site mentioned above.

One more thing--is it me or does anyone think that this board is too NARROW? Lengthy posts would really look an epistle if they have to be crammed into this little space. Just a thought, you know. So Sylva, when are the others coming back? I am assuming that they are going to. Already we have over 200 registered here. Where are they all?
quote: Trading a high quality discusssion forum as the former nigeriaworld.com/board for a substandard dateline website is truly a disappointment indeed.
Cant say I blame former members who refuses to identify themselves with this ridiculous and mediocre dateline discussion forum.
I hope Chuck brings back the old board otherwise this may be my one and only contribution on this forum.

Whenever you have bababoyz, you have one-liners. The trouble is that one-liners are not enough to express a lot of important thought.

I move a motion that we nominate Mr Chuck Odili for a national award. Can I get someone to second that?
Lets face it, he has succeded once again in rescucitating the board after the recent crash though with the usual loss of data. We should also give recognition to the most recent inovation which is a first in the history of message boards, in that in the midsts of heated political debates the forumites can nip into the backroom to see to 'business'.

When Leo gave Chucky the "Always down Award," little did I suspect that Chuck was about to convert egbeomooduduwa.com into the "PERMANTLY DOWN" forum. Frankly, we should be on the look out for anyone we know who registers at the sex-talk forum. I know that things are bad back home. But, they have not gotten so bad that our people should go looking for sex on the World Wide Web.

quote: "Are we being censored????" 16-04-03, 01:44 AM (GMT) Will someone please explain to me what happenned to the nigeriaworld messageboard, first the site was out of service for days, then came the message that that the board is no longer operational. Iam tempted to speculate that, the recent strong anti war stance by most of the forumites and their strong condemnation of Bush and his Iraq policies may have cost us the use of that board. So much for freedom of speech.I hope someone will prove me wrong,we lost a lot of intellectual material on that board. This board has such a different feel to it.it is not devoted to intellectual pursuit.Nevertheless i believe we can build a very intellectually stimulating forum with time. God Bless Nigeria.

I congratulate the BiafraNigerian.com forum for running a site that has a good backup systems, contingency plan and disaster recovery strategy. Well done and I wish the forum a long and stable life..

The Nigeriaworld.com Forum was hosted and maintained by limited engineers, how many time did the website crash, how many time did we have to re-register our user account details.
I repeat the standard of the Nigeriaworld.com administrator/engineer, is as bad as an NEPA trained engineer and that’s insulting the NEPA engineer.
I would miss my banter with the like of Obi Sr, Kenn, Emir Kongi, Nakson, NaijaOne and Co regardless of our differences there was freedom of expression.

quote: the erstwhile NigeriaWorld Messageboard who may not feel quite comfortable moving from a high quality discussion forum to a dating board.
Many of you will recollect that when the ‘server crashed’ and all the valuable posts and huge archive were inexplicably lost, a few members offered contributions and technical assistance to recover the archive only to be advised that it was not possible.
That lingering question of the old board “crash” and the present herding of us all to a dating site without explanation and without feelings for all the time we have invested in the NigeriaWorld Messageboard is the primary reason for this board.
What's up? I have to say I was quite surprised when I logged onto Nigeriaworld last week and ended up on NDL. What in the world happened? From what I have gathered so far this came out of nowhere.
I will pass the news of this forum along, so that people are aware of the alternative. Good job.
Thank you for the initiative of bringing this about. Before i received the info mail this morning, i was actually thinking that it would have been a worthwhile project for NLF to pick up the gauntlet from where Nigeriaworld left off.
I will reserve my comment about the turn of events at the old message board, but the least i can say now is i feel betrayed.
I am not too sure if it is too late, but is it possible to change our village name from Nigeria Discussions to Nigeriaworld Discussions. Just a thot.
Once again, thanks for starting this.

Now, please, let us know what may be needed to sustain this Board - I mean financial or otherwise. That way, some may contribute as they see necessary toward a better and board.

Welcome on board and thanks for the words of encouragement. At this point we need all hands on deck - from IT-savvy folks who can advise on how we can have a sustainable crash-free site with Archives etcetc. We also need people to co-moderate the boards, people who can chip in funds for the board maintnace etc etc.
But as more people trrop in we can discuss these and other details.

Welcome Sulaak. Freedom of expression remains fundamental to human existence. It shouldn’t matter what view one upholds, as long as a reasonable argument is sustained. Every Dick and Harry criticised Abacha’s authoritative regime but many are comparable to him. Please feel free to make your views known.
