Nzeribe Forged Certificate, Says Security Report

As security agencies continue the screening of aspirants to the office of the Senate President, a security report has indicted Senator Arthur Nzeribe.

The report declared that Nzeribe was found guilty by the Lagos Zone 2 of the Failed Bank Tribunal and discovered to have used a fake certificate to secure a job at Gulf Oil Company.

According to the report addressed to the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Nzeribe "worked with Shell Nigeria Ltd in Port Harcourt on return, then Nigeria Air Force as a cadet officer in 1962 and resigned two months later on grounds of rigorous training and dissatisfaction with the rank he was given. He then joined Gulf Oil Company at Escravos and was dismissed in 1965 when his certificate was discovered fake."

On his business background, the security report said that Nzeribe "in a joint venture with two English men and a Ghanaian, using JEAFAN, reached out to diplomatic missions and then ultimately their governments. This was how he eventually got Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Chad etc. His exploits in Ghana between 1967 and 1969 had netted about five million British Pounds Sterling which apparently launched him into his millionaire status."

The report, entitled: "Francis Arthur Uzoma Nzeribe" continued: "Due to his alleged dubious activities, all the countries mentioned except Chad in which he was a non-resident expelled him. His business eventually grew to the level of forming an umbrella organisation which he called FANZ Organis-ation."

According to the report, he had personally claimed that FANZ has a subsidiary of 17 companies with 20 offices in Nigeria and overseas. These companies are purportedly involved in heavy construction, computer, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, oil brokerage, insurance, banking, publicity and property investment.

However, the entire organisation was described as only on paper and controlled from Panama by a business associate using "Broadway and Moonlight" holdings in confidence."

On his political life, the SSS report stated that the " Subject has political record allegedly immersed in intrigues. He is known to have worked his way into virtually every government in power in Nigeria's political history, since he came to limelight, except the second republic when he was an opposition senator."

The report credited Nzeribe to have formed several political associations like the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDP) in 1996, when he was expelled from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Association for Better Nigeria (ABN)

According to the report, "of interest also is that Nzeribe has been winning his Oguta (Imo West) senatorial district since the Second Republic, indicative of his ' elephant ' size in that District, which he has maintained through intimidation of opponents."

The report concluded thus: "Subject was tried and found guilty in 1996 by the Lagos Zone '2' of Failed Bank Tribunal. The Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corpor-ation (NDIC) which dragged him to the Tribunal alleged fraud and dishonesty against him in the liquidation of ALFA Merchant Bank

Senator Arthur Nzeribe has restated the determination of his group, the Movement for National Consensus and Accommodation (MONAC), to ensure that President Olusegun Obasanjo is adopted as the sole presidential candidate in the 2003 presidential election, saying "nobody can stop us; it (the move) is in the constitution."
