Foreign powers should keep out of Nigeria's/Africa's internal Affairs From Adamu Abuh, Kano
quote: THE United States (US) Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Howard Jeter has admonished all persons aggrieved by the outcome of the recent general elections to seek redress in court.
Nigerian have to deal with their problems without foreign intervention as Nigerians do not intervene in theirs. The last elections were rigged and everybody knows that justice cannot be obtained through the court. Why didn't America use International court represented by the old UN to disarm Saddam of his "Weapons of Mass Destruction"? Why can't the palestinians get justice since decades under International laws represented by the old UN and again headed by the US?
Nigerians, especially those in diaspora should not stay there and watch foreigners intervene directly in Nigeria's affairs. It is time to make your voices heard, otherwise you should not be complaining that our leaders did this or did that while in reality Nigeria is being hijacked by foreigners.
quote:The envoy, who spoke after presenting learning materials to schools in Kano State, also re-echoed the U.S. happiness over the re-election of President Olusegun Obasanjo for another four years.
Nigeria does not need hand-outs, what it needs is good management and accountability, which could be achieved if the national or regional componenets of the country are well represented in the decison making as to watch each other's dealings.
Of course the US is happy with Obasanjo because Obasanjo is not managing Nigeria but foreigners like the US and others. The problem is that Nigerians are not happy and did not vote for Obasanjo. It is under Obasanjo's administration that foreign soldiers, the US, occupied Nigeria for the first time since the Independence. Today US soldiers are also occupying Iraq. Those who refuse that their countries be occupied are terrorists, not because their demands are not legitimate, but because they chose a wrong method to achieving them. This is the mistake Nigerians/Africans should not make. We can keep imperialists out of Africa by speaking out, educating black population and ignoring their remarks such as the above.
Nigerians in diaspora should support the oppositon parties to obtain the cancellation of the last elections. The US can close its Embassy in Nigeria while Nigerians are demanding that rigged elections be cancelled. The inauguartion being prepared by Obasanjo could be transfered to London. THE GUARDIAN CONSCIENCE, NURTURED BY TRUTH LAGOS. NIGERIA. Wednesday, May 21, 2003
U.S. backs Obasanjo's re-election, counsels losers From Adamu Abuh, Kano THE United States (US) Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Howard Jeter has admonished all persons aggrieved by the outcome of the recent general elections to seek redress in court.
The envoy, who spoke after presenting learning materials to schools in Kano State, also re-echoed the U.S. happiness over the re-election of President Olusegun Obasanjo for another four years.
Jeter maintained that iAmerica believes in aggrieved persons to seek redress in court instead of indulging in acts capable of affecting democracy in Nigeria.
He said: "I think that as you know, some people claim that there were great irregularities that took place during the elections. What we have said to those people who feel aggrieved is that there are legal channels by which they can address their grievances.
"That is still our very firm positions. Already we have congratulated the Nigerian people on the election and we have congratulated His Excellency, the President on the election," he said.
The heterogeneous nature of the country, he observed, should serve as a binding force for Nigerians rather than allowing it to cause disunity.
Jeter, who donated about 70,000 supplementary books and resources materials to primary schools and resource centres in the state, restated the U.S. resolve to help uplift education in Nigeria.
He disclosed that the donation was part of a larger contribution by the U.S. government to the country comprising over 250,000 primary school books and materials and other educational enhancement programmes.
The donation is under President George Buch Africa Education Initiative to improve educational opportunities for the children in the continent through a $200 million programme over the next five years.
Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in a speech, thanked the U.S. for donating the books to the state.
He added the books would help to revamp education in the state.
