quote:Thousands of young black people go missing for months and even years. The authorities say they are deeply worried for their safety, yet there are no television appeals and no manhunts. They could be dead and killers could be stalking new victims. Why does no one seem to care? http://www.voice-online.net/content.php?show=2529&type=1
It is time for blacks to communicate more among themselves, including with children, for maximum protection. It is dangerous to leave oneself at the mercy of others. Those who cannot protect themselves should think of moving to Africa. It is essential for the younger generation to be informed of this last option.

quote: Daily Independent Online. * Friday, October 31, 2003. 26 UK varsities storm Nigeria for prospective students
Stories by Fabian Ozor,
Daily Independent, Lagos
No fewer than 26 Universities from the United Kingdom (UK) are expected at a fair organised by the British Council which is aimed at exposing Nigerian students to the prospects of securing admission to study in UK. A statement from the council said the fair promises to be the first of its kind in Nigeria, adding that representatives from up to 26 UK institutions will be on hand to recruit prospective students into UK institutions.
"For the first time, VISA counselling sessions facilitated by the British High Commission will take place", it said, adding that the fair would take place from 30 October to 6 November, 2003 in Lagos and Abuja.
The statement said the fair is designed to reach all prospective students in Nigeria and that the two locations of Lagos and Abuja areto take care of interested candidates in the south and north respectively.
An organized protest by Africans would put pressure on their governments to find ways of improving the standard of education in the continent. Those who studied abroard are yet to go back and participate in the nation-building. To help in achieving the latter, and for other reasons, those who still choose to leave the continent would better marry before leaving.

Sylva: The governor is damn right. You have to go to places like Italy to see how we Africans have instead of being our brothers keepers have instead become not only our brothers/sisters DECIEVERS but KILLERS as well, i.e, literally speaking.
After watching the ghetto-like living condition of some Africans in Europe and the Americas, despite their mouthing, I sometime wonder if it was worth the trouble spending so much human and material resouces crossing the Pacific Ocean to live in their respective Saddam-like moles they now call 'home' in the west.
There is no doubt that what is needed URGENTLY to reverse this DESCEND INTO MORAL DECADENCE by not only the Edos but by some other so called immigrants from Africa is for ALL African governments (where they exist) to make it a matter of URGENCY to draw up a programme to properly and continously educate their youths (especially the girls) on the danger of falling into the hands of these criminals who can best be described as modern day HEAD HUNTERS. On the other hand however, whereby the victims or victim-to-be are aware of the dangers inherent in their undertaking and yet decide to make the move, they should then be left to their fate therafter.
On a practical note though, I suggest that Obasanjo give his inlaw, the all-knowing Prof. Omo Omoruyi who once made it a duty to "educate" Igbos on morals to lead the battle to rescue his Edo people from the clutches of DARKNESS. Charity must begin at home.

Bamidele: You never hear am say dem don ban usage of Pdgin english for this board? Abi you wan make dem ban you? Be careful oh. Na joke I dey make my brother.
I would prefer to live under the bridge in anywhere in Nigeria/Africa than to come to whiteman's land to not only disgrace my person as an Igbo, but ALL black race. That's the LAGER PICTURE. Anyone who sees this matter in its larger context will not hestitate to call it the EVIL that it is, irrespective of one's place of origin.

Addy: Good that we have agreed on something. Be it "the first time". Be sure that you will have reason to agree with me in the future, or vice-versa. All you have to do is to open up your mind to be OBJECTIVE.
As regards my comment on the publicity-seeking "learned proffessor" (you can agree with me that one can be "learned" academically but still be lacking in WISDOM), it has nothing to do with Nwa Aro "sneering" at him. Rather, what I simply meant is that the man should find a way to remove the log in his (Edo people) eyes before attempting to blow out the dust in the eyes of us Igbos. That is not however to say that we Igbos like other Nigerian nations do not have dirt in our eyes as well.
Nwa Aro's duty, as that of every well-meaning Igbo is to ANALYSE and find SOLUTION to humanity's propblems, starting from IGBOLAND. So also I think should the Omo Omoruyis do, starting from Edo State. That is what the English call SHARING OF RESPONSIBILITY.

I think that those people in Canada can take care of themselves or eventually get the minimum help from the Nigeria's Embassy.
Recently I was surprised that Yinka submitted less than 70 posts since 2001 and I have just discovered that Idowu did again less; he seems to be looking for any occasion to accuse the Igbo.
All, The most important thing is to sensitize Nigerians/Africans in Africa. The second is to give priority to Africans/blacks in the continent and to deter African governments from giving contracts to foreigners for jobs that Africans can do. One of the means is suing the governments to court, among others.
In Nigeria today, the implementation of Information technology in the Universities and other higher institutions are contracted to French and British companies. It is time to put an end to it. There are many Nigerians who can do the job and even if some Nigerians might less experience than their Oyibo counterparts in some fields, practice makes perfect. It is time to take over from the imperialist, 42 years is long enough for Nigerians to start developing their country themselves. It is learning time. It is also the responsibility of any government, to permit their citizens take over such projects.
