Congratulations to Enyimba the elephant city boys. They finally brought this elusive cup home to Igbo land. This may sootht the heart brake many of us suffered in 1975 finals between Haffia of Guinea and Enugu Rangers international.

This is what happens when we eschew quota systems. If we had to have people named Musa, Babayaro, and Segun in the club, they would have lost the game.

Bababoyz is right. When sports becomes big national news, we should put it here, not only in the sports forum.

You beat me to it. The team is made up of more than Igbo players and I am certain that this must be a contributing factor to their success, even the coach is not Igbo, I think. Please let's not reduce this great victory that all the nationals of this space should enjoy to a sectional thing.

When maaan Babz, and co start highlighting and celebrating the acievements of a Biafran soccer team more than Biafrans, you kinda wonder: whassssuuup????
There is no doubt an ace up the sleeves.
It appears that as usual, when something successful appears on the horizon from the East, all the NFA scribes, Cheerleading chairmen, and contingents, (like parasites latching on to a host with good prospects) soon turn out to be the usual usurping Parapo crowd, out to claim the glory for what a "One Nigeria" team could look like and no doubt achieve if only we would just be more patriotic.
From this heartfelt joy being heartily celebrated freely by all, we can now see that the reason why Cardinals Ekandem or Arinze were not celebrated with equal glee (but only with undeserved insults from some on this board) was because they did not have some self appointing self asserting parasitic "Nigerian" agent or manager or cheerleading squad to claim indirect credit for their substantial achievements. They were altogether too Biafran for the general liking, one supposes.
Call me cynical, and bring on the impotent crucifixion crew.
EGYPTIAN OBASANJO DEJA VU
On another note, I was very highly entertained by the extents to which the Egyptian government would go to win a game, please take a good look at this article:
After laughing so hard, it occurred to me that the same strategy the Egyptians were attempting to use to stall, frustrate, humiliate, and demoralize the indommitable Enyimba boys, mirrors the very same strategy Aremu is applying against Igbos in this his administration.
Aremu apparently determined that the only way in this modern day for his tribesmen to get a jump on Igbo under the guise of "Democracy" was to use Govt apparatus to hold Igbo down so as to recoup the losses which from his peoples perception Abacha inflicted.
This is why the Egyptian Govts disgraceful actions smacks of an Aremu-like deja vu.
Now imagine hypothetically there was a world cup equivalent to the Cup Enyimba won, if the Egyptians are half as "sophisticated" as some of our parapo brethren, they should now know enough to send some of their self inflicting "Ministers", "directors" and area boys (cheerleading contingent) as "hangers on" to force themselves on the "Nigerians", that way if the inevitable victory occurrs, they would at least be in a position to claim indirect total credit via "African unity" for having "overseen" and "shepharded" a "Nigerian" team to victory. To which their forumite equivalents would fill this board with congratulatory postings, to demonstrate their genuine joy at "One African" achievements.
Nd'Igbo si na; kama ebule ahu ga agbanahucha ncha, kama ya, egbubiri ya odu. meaning: rather that buffalo make a complete getaway, at least chop off its tail for supper (i.e never let a sure banker getaway from you completeley). This wise saing is what the Parapo crowd have apparently heeded and are now reaping, going by their claims and credit taking.

Ok, so the Enyimba Boys did not allow the Ogunsanyas, the Musas, or the Omolades to screw up this time.

Babyboys, Dave was referring to the management with exclusion of Yoruba and Hausa skills. This is what Green Eagles would be if the power of the Feds is sized down to an infinite number.
Now, any valued fan should take politiking out of sports. This is about hard work, persistance, the best of the best and dream for all who fancy football[soccer]. I am proud Enyimba, born and bread. I have always fancy the success of the city's pride in football from the Aba Giant Killers to the Secondary school teams-------> Hail to Governmant college Umuahia former Fisher High. And hail to Enyimba and Kalu for his love of the sports and leadership. Despite all his vulnerability in politics , we gotta give credit to him. This success is about management not tribe and Kalu, including the foreign coach delivered.
Hail Biafra

At long last, the Champion of Champions Trophy is coming home. It was a well-deserved victory for the Kalu boys, and I hope the credit will go to their coach and not Chukwu who was unnecessarily called in the last minute for technical advise.
The players and the coaches have fulfilled their part of the bargain, now it is time for Governor Kalu to fulfill his.
Congratulations. Ebe2 Villager Posts: 304 (12/12/03 16:59) Reply Enyimba all the way
Aji,
Are you kidding me? I was going to have a burger for lunch. I washed it down with a pint of Labatts instead of pop or water.
This Enyimba guys are heroes. They took everything that Ismaili and their unruly fans (not to mention the referee) threw at them. 10 minutes of stoppage time, the gift of a penalty from the ref to the Egyptians, and an embarrassing display of agression by the home team and their supporters were not enough to kill the Enyimba lads' spirit.
Kudos to the victors. This guy BUNCH wanted Enyimba to loose BAD. Even after they won, he had to find ways to demean their victory and to attach an unnecessary mention of a loser team, Berger, and even attributed their loss to an Igbo Man playing for Tunisia. This is why Nigeria will never amount to something good. Bunch17 Villager Posts: 73 (12/13/03 5:14) Reply Congrats.
While congratulating Enyimba FC, we should also mention the brave performance of Julius Berger FC lost in the Finals of the Cup Winners Cup to Etoile Sahel of Tunisia, 3-2 on aggregate. Berger had won the first leg 2-0 , only to lose 3-0 with a hat trick by Ogochukwu Obiakor one of the 3 Nigerians fielded by the Tunisian team.
Congratulations to Enyimba and Berger for doing us proud. Lets hope for an improvement in the state of Nigerian Soccer.

Please tell me how this is any different from what the NdIgbo go through with the Nigeria government? But they still find ways to overcome whatever situation.
Bababoyz,
The coach had his reasons for asking Chukwu, the NATIONAL COACH to come to his aid. I am sure that Chairman Chukwu’s advise on international football help to see this team reach were no other Nigerian team has ever been to.

Ok guys, I am not very familiar with what is going on here, so I will appreciate any elucidation.
So, the African Champions’ cup had eluded Nigeria for some 39 odd years? WOW! That seems like a very long time not to have won that cup for a country that would like to be considered the best in African football.
If that be the case, then I want to use this opportunity to congratulate the Enyimba boys for a job well done. They have really done us proud.
The Egyptians probably forgot that the “God of Soccer” is indeed a very ironic, humorous and unpredictable one. With all the pre-game holdups and rough treatment, and with the scuffles with Egyptian players and jeers by home fans on the actual field of play, it was quite comforting as it was amusing that the Enyimba boys ultimately prevailed.
I remember how that back in the days, when Nigeria wants to play any of the African teams from the Mediterranean North, Nigeria will pick as it would appear, the hottest day and the shabbiest pitch so as to ensure a victory. In retaliation, the North Africans would like to play in the evenings or at nights so that the temperature would drop considerably, if they imagined that the cold weather was going to be a disadvantage for the tropical Africans.
How ridiculous the things people do to win games!
On a different note, I think the Egyptians have had more than a proportionate share of Champions’ cup victories (I don’t have the stats to back this up, so once again, some help would be invaluable) therefore I think it was pretty petty on their part to indulge in all those antics to deprive the Enyimba boys of a much-desired win! Perhaps, it was not just a mere coincidence that the “God of Soccer” ( I use this term very loosely here) decided to punish their unsportsmanlike conduct by granting the underdogs the victory, and with the same stroke, modifying the records.
I just hope that Sepp Blatter, the CAF president and the international body that watched this history-making match noted the vile savagery meted to our boys in that ancient country of pyramids, because if these Egyptians, in the future, have a critical game to play in Nigeria, it would not be far-fetched for them to expect in return, the same level of atavistic rascality!

Who said sports aint got something to do with Nigerian poltics? Please get this straight; in Nigeria, where you come from and not where you live is what matters, thus, EVERYTHING in Nigeria (including sports) got EVERYTHING to do with politics.
Using this deserved victory of this side from the heartland of Igboland as an example, it must be noted that while Abuja stadium and other stadias around the country were either being built anew or refurbished by the Federal government of Nigeria, it took the single-handed effort of one good Igbo businessman named Chief Oscar Igbokwe, the owner of Buscor Group of Companies based in Pot-Harcourt to renovate and re-grass the then old-fashioned and dilapidated Aba Township stadium before Emyimba were able to play international matches there. It was Governor Uzor Orji Kalu of Abia State that paid all the hotel and other bills the club accumulated while playing in Nigeria and abroad, needless to say that it was his governmnet that also bought the jerseys and other sports wears the team used before and during the tournament. Apart from that, other good and sports-loving people in and from Igboland took the entry of Emyimba into the African Champs competition as they saw Rangers of old and have been privately contributing to the club's coffers till it got this far. Infact, it was for this and other reasons that the management of Emyimba bluntly refused to accept the eleventh hour offer of financial and tecknical assistance the Federal government through the Nigerian Football Association offered the former just a few weeks before their return match in Egypt.
So where is the "wazobia" one Yoruba supremacist alluded to?
As it is in sports, so it is when it comes to construction of roads, airport, seaway, etc, etc in the east. So anyone that comes here to tell us that we should keep politics out of this is either misinformed or mischievious or both.
Away from the reap-where-you-did-not-sow chest-beating by most Nigerians now that victory has come, in reality, what the victory of Emyimba FTC (meaning the peoples' elephant) represents is that if given the opportunity, and if Ndigbo themselves work in unison, the Igbo race will not only show the way for other Nigerians to follow but will make people from other parts of the world to start respecting the blackman!
I can hear the shout ot "Enyimba! Enyi!!' which some often use to deride the Igbos (especially those coming or living in Aba) PROUDLY renting the air all over Aba and the rest of Igboland in sweet celebration. There cant be a better time to be IGBO.

How else could this have been put better?
NwaAro, thanks again for putting substantiative details to what some people wish they could be honest enough to admit.

You consistently mis-spelt this Igbo word "Enyimba". Why? Is it a case of touch typing and then not reviewing before posting?
Why is NFA getting a cut from the hard work of the Abia State sports ministry?
quote:As well a helping the profile of Nigerian club football the victory has earned Enyimba a huge financial boost as they collect $950,000 in prize money, while the NFA get $50,000.
And this from BBCNEWS: Football fans all over Nigeria celebrated through the night after Enyimba beat Ismaili of Egypt to become the first Nigerian club to win the Champions League. Enyimba may have lost the second-leg by a controversial first half penalty goal but they triumphed 2-1 on aggregate, thanks to a 2-0 win at home in the first leg.
In the club's hometown of Aba their ecstatic fans toasted the hard-fought victory in the city's pubs and clubs.
"We are celebrating this great day, the Egyptians tried to intimidate us but we showed true character and this gave us the cup and we are now part of history," said Obinna Nwafor, a fan who watched the game live on television.
Former international Segun Odegbami, who came close to lifting the title in 1996 with Shooting Stars of Ibadan, said Enyimba's win will gain more respect for Nigerian club football.
"We have finally broken the jinx," he said.
"That we have never won this trophy in the past has left a big dent in our image and cost us respect in the eyes of Africa, but now Enyimba have changed all that."
The final itself was interrupted for several minutes as angry Egyptian fans threw missiles onto the pitch in the final stages of the match.
Meanwhile in Lagos, thousands of fans took to the streets after the final whistle to celebrate the new African champions.
As well a helping the profile of Nigerian club football the victory has earned Enyimba a huge financial boost as they collect $950,000 in prize money, while the NFA get $50,000.

The unfortunate incident started with about 200 miles to Cairo the Egyptian capital when the captain of the chartered ADC airline, told the team that consists of players and officials of Enyimba, NFA Chairman, Ibrahim Galadima, Secretary, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Supporter Club Chairman, Aderenle Yusuf, and a huge number of his team plus about 20 top sports journalists that he has been asked to divert to a village called Astyuit as a result of poor visibility.
Where in God's name is the original Enyimba fan club from Aba ? This is ridiculous why must people always seek to reap where there did not sow.
In anycase congratulations to Enyimba, I know somebody in Aso rock did not sleep easy last night. They will be more hearth aches for the criminals, Ndigbo are insurmountable.
