Myth: Economic liberalisation, Foreign AID and Global policies are the way out of Africa's quagmire.
Reality: Any relationship with the West, from the African side that does not recognise that the primary purpose of the West is to exploit, plunder and take over the African continent is an invitation to disaster. The way out of Africa's economic quagmire is IMPORT SUBSTITUTION. There is no easy way out of this. Unless the Governments of the respective states pursue an agenda that RUTHLESSLY fights for the primacy of local interest, every step taken is in retrogression.
Myth: The West has helped Africa enough, Africa now needs to help herself.
Reality: The West has actually never helped Africa and shouldnt be expected to. Let us not forget, that most of the debt that African States have today is the INTEREST on the principal that African leaders were deceived into borrowing in the 1970's. But because we have leaders who has light headed, oppressed by a great inferiority complex and who seek validation in their association with the West, they STUPIDLY rushed ahead into HEAVY borrowing in the wake of the oil boom of the latter half of the last century. The agenda of the West hasnt changed. It is divide and conquer. The truth is "Africa has always been, and will continue to be, the only help Africa has"
Myth: Africans are corrupt
Reality: Enron, Tyco, Global Crossing, Worldcom are not African companies. Actually, Africa is one of the very few places in the world today where mores are taught that emphasize eschewing the pursuit of material gratification. Mercantilism, commercialisation of every facet of human life, is not an African phenomenom.
Myth: Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
Reality: One of the people who draws up the list for Transparency International is a Colombian. His country doesnt make a dramatic apperance on the TI list, drug capital of the world that it is. Saddam Husseins Iraq was of course scored more favorably than Nigeria. The truth is that Nigeria isnt a corrupt country. Do we have corrupt leaders - but of course! But yes! But we must ask - Is possession of stolen goods a crime? Then why arent Luxembourg, Switzerland etc on the list?
Myth: The Problem with Nigeria isnt the government.
Reality: The problem is solely and squarely the government. Until our problem solving abilities are channeled towards this issue of leadership, we will continue to dance around. It is vain to attempt to convert the entire country before we expect a level of peace. What we need is an active government, a law enforcing government that can lay down the big stick when neccesary.
Myth: Life is better for Africans outside Africa
Reality: Life is actually worse for Africans outside Africa.
Myth: The proof that life is better for Africans outside Africa is the long line at the embassy and the fact that many arent returning.
Reality: Long lines and permanent residence prove nothing. We might as well ask - A man who has a job as a factory worker, who knows how to work in no other sector - who pursues this dangerous job day and night - is life better for him on the job than in his home with his wife and children? Of course not! Yet he goes to his job day and night because he is seeking economic satisfaction. In the same vein, the only reason Africans endure the west is because they are seeking economic satisfactions. One might as well look back in the past and point at those who lined up for menial jobs during the great depression and say "Oh - they just love this jobs. See how many of them are lining up" The truth is that when we were growing up in the 70's travelling outside the continent was considered degrading.
Myth: Africans are poor.
Reality: Africans arent poor.
Myth: The proof that Africans are poor are the images seen on TV and the constant aid that the continent requests for.
Reality: The pictures seen on TV are actually proof of the West's propensity for ego flattery. The request for AID is proof that Africa has foolish leaders. Let us not forget, that in times past, African States have been creditors to the IMF. With respect to Nigeria - the proof of poverty is the inability to purchase. Yet constant purchases are being made in this country. Where is the money coming from?
Myth: In an Interdependent world, Africans need to open up and cooperate with the outside world.
Reality: There is no interdependent world. There is a world built solidly on the foundation of Imperialism. In this world, the Imperialists bark and everybody else runs. There is a world of great dependency with foolish nations at the bottom and the Imperialists at the top. There is a world in which an Imperialist caucus seeks to control every aspect and trade and dictate terms and conditions to its client states. There is a world in which an Imperialist caucus seeks hegemony in matters of defense and weapons capabilities but harrasses those who exercise a right to do the same. There is no interdependent world - there is only a world of Imperialism and those who are its captives.
Myth: Dictators, Ethnic conflict and Corruption are proof that Africans are their own worst enemies.
Reality: The idea that someone could be his own worst enemy is an oxymoron. Even suicidal maniacs are treated as persons afflicted with curable conditions. The condition is the enemy. What is the African condition? SLAVERY. Physical, Mental and Spiritual. A whole continent filled with human persons incapable of thinking from themselves is surely a curse beyond all comprehension. What must be battled is not ourselves - but the Imperialist Ideology of Slavery. Let us not forget - The West has had more dictators, more ethnic conflict and more corruption than Africa has ever had. It is also worthy of note that most of the Dictators on the continent were financed by the West, e.g Mobutu Sese Seko, Sanni Abacha and that leaders of note on the continent were assasinated by the West e.g Murtala Muhammed and Patrice Lumumba.
Myth: Money will solve Africas problems.
Reality: Money will not solve our problems, because our problem isnt physical. What is our problem? You see our problem when you meet those funny African girls with their "over make up" and their forced nasal accents. You see our problem when you hear a President using his association with the G8 as a bullying pulpit in his country. You see our problem when African States need to go back to colonial masters to resolve boundary disputes. You see our problem when aggrieved Presidential aspirants in an African State travel to their white masters to seek justice in their own country. You see our problem when someone says "This is how they do it in the more civilized countries". You see our problem when the President on a African State refers to the citizens thereof as pigs and chickens. The Problem is SLAVERY. SLAVERY inflicted so deep into the spirits of Africans - they have lost all sense of righteousness.
Myth: The goal for Africa is to become like "more civilized countries"
Reality: This is the greatest imperialist hoax that has been sold to gullible persons of African descent. What does civilized mean? By what standards is it measured? Who makes these value judgments and why have Africans swallowed these ideas hook line and sinker? What is civilization? Homosexuality with fast cars? Depression with Shopping Malls? Suicidal Children with Broken Homes? What is the mystical civilization that the people of Africa are chasing? What is this mystical development? Is it tehcnology? Technology is good but it is not equal to civilization. By making such statements, foolish Africans are unknowingly selling themselves right back into the hands of the Imperialist. If we are to progress, we must define our own standards without apology.
Myth: It is good if Africa became like the West.
Reality: If this happened, it will be the greatest calamity in the history of humanity. The West is on a downward slide socially. We dont need to import all the social garbage from across the ocean and pollute our children just becuse some idiot has a mistaken idea of what civilization is. Africa must chart a different path and a different course. The great question is " Are you mere copy cats like the Japanese or can you do your own thinking?" See, we are at a point where we can make these decisions, unlike other States - how much are we willing to loose?
Myth: The West is civilized.
Reality: Yes - thats why they gave us WW1, WW2 and all the Cannibalism inbetween.
Myth: At least the Western system works.
Reality: At the expense of everybody else. We are looking at a system built solidly on slavery and the exploitation of people. And then again - does the Western System really work? It is a house built on quicksand - a peace built on increasing indebtedness.
Myth: White People arent responsible for Slavery, the Africans had sold themselves into slavery before the white people came.
Reality: 900 to 500 years before Europeans ever came to Africa, they had been beating and cutting themselves up and selling themselves into slavery. In fact, the word slave cames from the old french esclave and the indo-european root kleu - a word applied disparaginly to the slavic people (slave = slav) which inhabit slovenia today. The white man sold himself into slavery under the Roman empire and during the dark ages in a constant barrage of war and fighting. The establishment of states in Europe was preceded by the 30 years war that premised the Treaty of Westphalia. It was this system of feudalism, in which over 90% of the population were slaves that the white man exported to the rest of the world.
Myth: The Slaves were sold to white men.
Reality: Trade in slaves goes back to biblical days when Josephs brethren sold him. In the old world, the modern day concept of slavery did not exist. The translation of the Yoruba word "Eru" as "Slave" is linguistically wrong. Classically, it meant a "Follower", a "Disciple" or a "Worshipper" In Africa, slaves regained their freedom - their children were born free and they had rights under community law (cf Olaudah Equianoh's narrative) - see also the story of Jaja of Opobo who was a former slave. However, when white people came to Africa, records of the first voyage of Henry the Navigator report that he fired on the first Africans he saw - following the same tradition employed by the white man in the Americas, Tasmania, Australia etc
Myth: Africans were willingly complicit in the slave trade.
Reality: The first abolitionists were Africans. King Afonso of the Kongo, as far back as the 16th century outlawed all forms of slavery in his domain BECAUSE he deemed that the traditional form had been perverted by the coming of the white man and the middle men in their employ. Queen Nzinga, Nasr El Din, Madame Tinubu and the People of Benin all OPPOSED the Imperialists for which they were severely PUNISHED.
Myth: Americans didnt create slavery. They Inherited it from Britain. What is unique about America is abolition.
Reality: What is actually unqiue about America is how unwilling they were to give up slavery and racism. 30 years before the civil war, the Nations of Europe, in Denmark etc ALL ABOLISHED slavery without FIRING A SINGLE SHOT based on the power of persuasion and reason. Americans however, UNWILLINGLY gave up slavery to replace it with Jim Crow etc
Myth: Even today, Africans are still engaged in slavery, proving their natural propensity towards barbarism.
Reality: 500,000 to 1 Million Slaves are manufactured every year in Eastern Europe and shipped to Western Europe. So after all these years, the white man is still up this game of enslaving his people. Since the fall of the Berlin wall and the end of the cold war, merchants in Western Europe have been buying and selling slaves at amazing profits in an industry valued at $17 Billion. In the same vein, 50,000 to 60,000 slaves make their way into the United States every year, Asian slaves are sold in California for $16000. In the Common Wealth of the Northern Marinas Islands, a US Trust Territory, white men have enslaved Asians, cut off their limbs and forced them to produce goods for Liz Clairborne, Gap etc. The propensity for slavery in the West is far greater than anything Africa could produce.
Myth: There is even Tribalism amongst Africans so complaining about Racism is unjustified.
Reality: Tribalism is a European invention. This is something the history of Europe shows us. The wars of the Celts, Goths, the ViseGoths etc are all exemplifications of the Tribal instinct rooted deep in the mind of the white man - as shown again in Bosnia. Again, remember that the Greeks referred to all these European Tribes as "Barbarians" e.g, the Goths, the Gauls etc. Today, the Europeans like to look back to Greece for Validation but unfortunately - they were Barbarians to the Greeks. This is also the reason for all the white cathedrals and white houses in the west. They thought that the Greeks did architecture in white - so they attempted to imitate the greeks in an attempt to validate their own civilization. Unfortunately, the research now shows us that the Greeks painted their works in Naturalistic colours. The Tribalism amogst the white people has not been used by any other group as justification for invasion, or as an excuse for ill treatment. So why should that standard be applied to children of African? Fact is - what goes on within sovereign territory is no mans business; nor is it an excuse for added oppression. Put in mind also, that wide reaching conflicts such as Hutu v Tutsi is something that was actually instigated by Belgian Missionaries. Africans do not need to spotlessly perfect before they get the justice they deserve.
Myth: The way forward for Africa is Technology Transfer.
Reality: Technology is never transferred. 40 years of idiocy should have taught Africans this lesson. The way forward for Africa is RUTHLESS LOCAL DEVELOPMENT. We MUST start from SCRATCH if need be. The way forward for Africa is a RADICAL NATIONALISM that DESTROYS corruption, ATTACKS immorality and OPPOSSES the Imperialist. What we need, Friends and Brethren is a RADICAL NATIONALISM that moves the Masses into the Government House, That sweeps the crooks into the Sea and PUNISHES the cohorts of darkness.
