Open University racket uncovered

By Chris Agbambu

Deputy Bureau Chief, Abuja

The police in Abuja have arrested one Olabode Delon Onaololapo and three others for racketeering, impersonation and forgery of National Open University admission documents.

The suspects were arrested in Abuja last week Thursday with cash receipt invoice, banners, posters and bills and application forms for the National Open University.

Force spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe said the syndicate specialises in defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians under the pretext of offering them admission for both graduate and post-graduate studies.

According to him, the suspects charge between N2,000 and N4,000 for an application form while a number of unsuspecting Nigerians are believed to have purchased the fake admission forms.

He said that investigation into the case has since commenced and that the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Reacting to the arrest, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun advised members of the public to be wary of such dubious individuals who parade themselves as agents of governmental and non-governmental organisations to defraud innocent Nigerians.
