According to the following Vanguard article, armed robbery seemed to be a way of life in the South-East states when the tip-off of a vigilante group notes:

The person behind the arms factory, one Augustine Ejiasa Nwogu, who is already being detained by the police, has confessed to the police that he used to supply guns made from the factory to some hoodlums who often terrorize motorists along Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. However, leaders of the community disclosed that Nwogu was not alone in the arms manufacturing and distribution, adding that some prominent people in the area were the main financiers of the illegal firearms deal.

Somehow, it's a good sign the law enforcement agents and vigilante groups are doing a good job by tracking the bad guys.

Question: Why is armed robbery widespread in the Southeast States?
