It was exactly 60 years ago today on Tuesday morning of June 6th 1944 when more than 5000 warship from the Allied Forced invaded the German-held border of North-France at Normandy. Though the Germans had anticipated the invasion, yet they had no clue as to where the Allied army would invade. Thus the German division stationed at the Normandy consisted of only a few hundreds of soldiers.

More than 10.000 (ten-thousand) allied soldiers from USA, Canada, England, France and Poland died on the shores of Normandy in less than seven hours shot dead by the German soldiers who were stationed in bunkers above the cliff in the dunes. It was easy for them to shoot at the advancing allied soldiers.

The allied invasion consisted of five landing grounds. The US landing ground was called Omahoa Beach which entered into history as the killing zone. At Omahoa Beach more than two thousand US soliders were shot dead by one german soldier alone, firing more than 12000 rounds with the flak machine gun.

In the evening of June 6th 1944 more than 150.000 (one hindred and fifty thousand) allied soldiers had arrived the Normandy.

The biggest military operation of mankind had begun!

Today the leaders of the western world are at the Normandy celebrating this great courageous act of civilized humanity. For the first time also, the german Federal Chancellor is taking part in the ceremony. This is the final restoration and proof of forgiveness for Germany.

May this world never again see the rise of state controlled racism.

More information about Normandy here.

Biafra Nwanne m,

Racism whether state controlled or not is bad.

I have always wondered why this celebrations take place without anyone remembering our fathers, grand fathers and Uncles who fought alongside the Allied Forces to defeat Nazi Germany. By coincidence, an uncle of mine who saw action in Burma was buried a decade ago, i.e. the 50th celebration of Allied Forces victory. Why are these folks not remembered?

It is not only Germany that is attending today's celebrations that we should take note of. We should also note that Russia is in attendace.

We should not forget that Russia as USSR, dealt brutally with the underground resistance of the Poles, who detested their occupation by communist USSR.

Washington and London through a complex diplomatic jaw-jaw with Moscow, allowed Communism to reign supreme in Poland. Read "allowed communism to reign supreme in Poland" as denying the Poles their freedom. And the War was about Freedom. Was it not? It was about defeating Nazism and liberating those under its bondage.

Selective liberation, which is always explained way with "in the national interest" , is not honourable and noble enough.

Today, the Coalition Forces, read Allied Forces, are in Iraq "liberating" Iraqi people from Sadam Hussein and the Baath Party.

So, why are they not coming to liberate the BiafraNigerian peoples from a lopsided and an unjust Federation. Why are they not coming to liberate us from the PDP monsters?

Simply put, why are they colluding with Obusonjo to rob us of our oil resources, destroy our ecosystem and kill us, the Niger Deltans, through arming the BiafraNigerian Navy and the BiafraNigerian Army that is wagging a war against us?

My thanks for raising this issue, my maternal grandfather; an affable soul who died twenty-one years ago was a decorated veteran of world war. I've wondered also why Africans who served during this war (Burma, North Africa, the Congo etc) never get mentioned. Isn't this racism? America it seems is the biggest racist society amongst the civilized world.

Hi othniel, staying low today? It's all good.
