As a growing young man,I saw a graphic picture of some Palestinian Refugees including women and children wading through thorns and thirstles as they wandered in search of a homeland. From that time I began to search for the truth regarding one of the most long-drawn conflict the known universe has witnessed. To express an opinion on this subject is a risky affair because beyond the land issues lies a maze of culture and faith clash. There are also age old prejudices being watered by formidable individuals, institutions and establishments. It has been an elusive search for peace indeed. There are hardly common grounds, compromises are scanty and often enforced. One finds no temperate voice.Everything verges on extremism and paranoi. To worsen the matter nobody is clean enough to mediate simply because either one falls to the polarity of religion or is caught in the ideological vortex.
I have not seen a Nigerian christian look at the matter neutrally or secularly. To us it is a forgone issue. The Arabs are damned and are at fault. That stand may issue from the false notion of ethnic and religious affinity or infallibility of Isreal.Unfortunately, very few see that Isreal in its often stunted wisdom does not see the world beyond Jewish history. For Isrealis they are the children of promise.Others in their spectacle are appendages or at best an afterthought of the creator.Till now an Orthodox Jew will hardly shake a 'Gentile'.
I am not out to lampoon Isreal entirely on the conflict, the Arabs also have a large chunk of the blame to take.First and foremost what we know today as the Middle East crisis could have been avoided had the Arabs initially accepted the necessity of a state of Isreal. This initial revolt not only compelled Isreal to self defence it also provided avenue for dubious neigbhours like Syria and Jordan to annex some territories belonging to the state of Palestine.Till today, these neigbhours have equivocated prefering to defer the day of peace knowing fully that they will be called to account at the table of justice. Even then sympathy should be extended to the Arabs for that posture because sequel to the partitioning of Palestine, some shady transactions went between Isreal and Bristish Trustees. It can even be argued that the final events of British departure were decided by deadly terrorist activities of some Jewish organisations from the more radical Irgun led by Menachin Begin to the more moderate Hagana of Ben Gurion. For instance, either Britain was armtwisted or colluded in making a policy allowing as many Jews as were in dispora to return to Palestine thereby altering the balance of population. It can be argued that the policy was very becoming following the slaughter of six million Jews, about a third of their Population at the time, but against the backdrop of the fact that one of the thorny issues of the Roadmap to peace has been the status of Palestinian refugees there is a question mark on Isreal's sense of justice.Yet again it will be harder to show why a group with foreign nationalities would be so allowed to return in droves in an era of a modern nation- state.
For the records, Isreal is today allocating a quota for Arabs that will return to the territory.Where is their golden rule of do unto others...?
Again we have seen the PLO transmute from a purely terrorist organisation(at least in the eyes of Isreal and the West) to a credible organisation ready to negotiate and compromise. We have also seen them drop the land -for -peace slogan for a more involving approach to peace. It is subversive of peace to begin to probe whether this was a genuine desire for peace or is compelled by Isreal's seeming invincibility. On the other hand there is scanty reciprocate action from Isreal.Israel is still on the track of an equally polarising peace-for-security pursuit.
After many years of autonomy, and self rule,Iseal has moved from deadline to deadline on the issue of full independence for Palestine.Even the closest effort by former president Clinton was allowed to derail because of the status of East Jerusalem and some sites holy to moslems Jews and christians.Because Israel knew that the moderate Arabs might just stomach it and make more compromises they decided to truncate the whole process by instigating violence.Their present leader Sharon was actually the man that started it all by an illegal visit to a moslem shrine. The violence has not ended since then with skewed proportion of deaths
At a time statesmen are being creative on the idea of peace Isreal works otherwise. While walls of division are being hewn down Isreal is errecting and reversing peace gains achieved over the years.
Israal gave the world shallom, the peace which passeth all understanding, but it does not understand it.It is still as it is in the days of yore.Isreal said Solomon,s reign witnessed peace from Dan even to Bearsheba. At the same time it is known that Solomon's armory was unrivalled throughout the land showing that the peace was sustained by coercion.Isreal thrives on dominion even from ancient times. That's why Solomon's false peace seemed to it as real peace.
For now, a world desirious of real peace must keep a distance from the state of Isreal until it shades it becomes sane again.

This state of Palestine whose territory you claim was annexed by Syria and Jordan is a figment of your imagination. There was no such thing as a state of Palestine before the creation of Israel, your whole write up is based on a very faulty premise. You have conviniently skipped the very fact that led to the Palestinians loosing more land in 1967. The road map to peace in the middle east is the denouncing of terrorism by influential Arab groups and governments. The Israeli's are no fools they don't want to end up like the Darfur blacks. Meanwhile here is good literature for you;

Time to end the lies

Chiboy,

The people of Darfur do not have the military might that Israel has. So, why the comparison at all?

The people of Palestine are asking that their lands be returned to them. Is that too much to ask for? They are also asking Israelis to end occupation just as the Iraqis are asking the United States to leave. Is that too much to ask for? What are we doing in Iraq?

Yes, solving the Palestianin/Israeli conflict is imperative to a new world order. Israeli/Palestianian issue is bigger that Iraq/Afghanistan.

My heart goes to those Palestinian mothers, children and babies whose homes are being destroyed at the middle of rainy nights and sunny days and have no place to go. Think about that.

From my own perspective, this is not about religion but humanity.

Can someone tell Washington to go for a regime change in Sudan? They won't go because there are no oil contracts to award.

Chiboy,
My account predated 1967.Palestine was a mandate territory under the League of Nations.Palestine used to have a different population mix as we have today. The British rulers allowed Jews of various nationalities to return because they could trace their origin to Palestine. That's equivalent to allowing American Blacks to return to Africa simply because they are of African extraction.Though it could be explained by the Nazi extermination drive against Jews.Lord Belfur partitioned Palestine and daclared an Independent state of Isreal in 1948. The Arab neighbours along with Palestine refused and declared war on the newly created State of Isreal. In the ensuing war the territories left for the Palestinians either came under Isreali occupation or the Arab neighbours. That was originally how Palestinians came to be without a state of their own.
Young man, take time to verify this.It cannot be a figment of my imagination. Before 1967 there has been an Arab-Isreali conflict.
All the same thanks for the interest on the subject. While hoping you will repent of your blind support for Isreal you will do well to reach beyond 1967.
Ride on.

Y'all can say whatever y'all want. Express your rabbid hatred for Isreal and Jews but the fact is that they are there and not going anywhere. It will take the extermination of all jews for the Jihardists to take Isreal. If Arabs love themselves so much why haven't they bothered to integrate their bros and sisters into their won socities and nations while at the sametime fighting for their statehhod. Afterall they encouraged their people leave their lands in droves with the promise that they will slaughter all jews in Isreal like Hausa/Fulani almost wiped out all igbos in the north before the war. Yes Palestinians deserve an independent state but not a terrorist state. Give up terrorism and there will be peace. You guys are just a bunch anti-semitic apologists for muslim terrorists. How about you do something about your fellwo black Africans under very harsh and worse condition before you jump on the peace loving jews. Aren't the same Arabs the ones committing genocides in Sudan and Mauruitania against innocent blacks, muslim and non muslim. How many Arab women, childern, or men have been raped, mutilated and forced into slavery compared to African blacks in North Africa? The answer is NONE, ZERO. So quit the Bull**** [Frown]

I am sure you know Israel was not created in 1967, and there is nothing from the quote above to suggest this claim. I wonder why you are asking me to go beyond 1967 as though I limited myself to 1967. Migration into what is today Israel was intensified by Arabs from Jordan, Syria and Egypt way before the Jews began returning to Israel. Here is a portion of the article I encouraged you to read
"In fact, according to official Ottoman Turk census figures of 1882, in the entire Land of Israel, there were only 141,000 Muslims, both
Arab and non-Arab. This number was to skyrocket to 650,000 Arabs by 1922, a 450% increase in only 40 years. By 1938 that number would become over 1 million or an 800% increase in only 56 years.
Population growth was especially high in areas where Jews lived. Where did all these Arabs come from? "

Now what better claim to the land do the Palestinians have over the Jews.? Whereas there has been a Jewish presence in the holy land since 1300 BC the Arabs moved out of the Arabian peninsula only at about 600 AD when Mohammed launched his Jihad. Historically only Saudi Arabia and Yemen were occupied by Arabs, today they lay claim to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Morrocco, Algeria, Mauritania and even Sudan, yet they would not let the Jews keep the little that is left of Israel. Was the offer of a Palestinian state not made to them at the time of the creation of Israel ? This offer was turned down because the real intention was the destruction of Israel. Now who is to blame for the quagmire in that area if not those who encouraged the Palestinians to move out so they can cleanse the land of Jews?

Rick
The Darfur question is very relevant if you know the history of the conflict. You see those Africans believed that being Muslims was enough to keep them safe from the Arabs and joined the Khartoum government in fighting their fellow Africans in the south. They only realized too late the real intentions of the Arabs when the South came close to be free and made a half hearted attempt liberation. That is what happens to people who take chances with sworn jihardist and that is what could happen to Israel if Hammas and co. succeed. Just like the UN is denying genocide in Darfur they will deny genocide in Jerusalem when it happens.
Worlds worst conflict

"Human rights activists say the Janjaweed are conducting a genocide against Darfur's black African population - although the UN and member states have refrained from using the word."

And where exactly did you witness this in the Middle East or? Isn't the Israeli more peaceful people than the arabs? I'll like also for you to peruse us more on the arab claim to Israeli territory. There’s no way any rational person could support the destruction of Israel by the same murderous terrorists while taking the opposite position in the tactics at work in kano, kaduna, and all moslem enclaves in nigeria. Something is definitely not translating I mean adding up therefore I direct your attention here, scroll to the post of July 09, 2004 09:49 PM and tell us about it afterwards. Thanks and how na?

As long as the Palestinian continue to believe in violence they will not enjoy worldwide support for an independent palestinian State. The Message should also be drilled into the head of their fellow muslim in Northern Nigeria, who thinks is ok to kill and masacare innocent christians all in the name of religion.

Thank you guys for shedding light for these supporters of satanic muslim arabs, the true picture of the goings on between the Isrealis and the murderous Arabs who call themselves palestainans.
The apologetic Nigerians here must understand that half of the land arabs are claiming ownership from uphratice river, to Babaylon, syria, hebron, bagdad, Judea,Galilee, Gaza, Bethlehem just to mention a few places belong to the Isrealis. Jews only took back SOME of their land the Arabs stole.

The hue and cry by these Arabs is nothing but noise. Thank God the jews are capable of handling them. The unjust world can screem till the end of the world the Isrealis will continue to protect themselves no matter what anyone says the walls will continue to ride high, because it is the surest way to put the Arab terrorist in check.

The palestainan statehood can wait until the Arabs come to their senses and understand that there are other ways they can get peace and statehood in their territory without killing innocent civilians through terrorism.
