The Olympic Games returns to its birthplace with a whole lot of surprises after the lavish opening ceremony on Friday.
Iraq beats Portugal 4-2
Iraq beats Costa Rica 2-0. Ain't that something?
South Africa joins in the act with a world record breaking men's 4 X 100 freestyle relay which demolished Michael Phelps and company.
There are dopeheads who still insist they are eligible to compete no matter what. You see what I mean?
And of all people and basketball which the US claims supremacy, neigboring Puerto Rico handed US men's basketball team their worst defeat in olympic history. A stunning 15 points win. Can you believe that? Well, it's true.
So where are the Naija competitors and who are they? Let the prdictions, analyses and commentaries begin.

As I watched the opening ceremonies from television, I can't help it but and compare it from the past opening ceremonies especially that of Sydney 2000.
The previous Olympic ceremonies showcased several production numbers that tells something about the host nations. In my own opinion, it was boring and lacks artistic value or maybe I was expecting too much from the host nation for they are the founders of Olympics.

SWEDEN's striker, Hanna Ljungberg, was a relieved woman after her side scraped through to the Olympics quarter finals with a 2-1 win over Nigeria
"We were a bit scared going into the game," she told KickOffNigeria.com after the match. "But you have to put things like that behind and focus on the game, and that is what we did," she said.
Manager Marka Domanski-Lyfors heaped praises on the Falcons.
"Nigeria has improved a lot from the side we played against at the last World Cup. I was particularly impressed by the number 4 (Perpetual Nkwocha), the number 11 (Vera Okolo) and of course Mercy (Akide). I know Mercy from way back, and I coached her during the FIFA All Stars game where she scored the winner for me. But I believe the team as a whole has improved a lot and can really go far," Domanski-Lyfors told KickOffNigeria.com.
She went on to explain how she achieved victory. "We knew we had to play the ball behind the defence as it was causing them so much trouble. We couldn't get it right in the first half, but we kept getting better and I am happy we won."
Domanski added that her side deserved their victory. "We played a good game today and I am happier today than I was against Japan. We are getting better and I think we will continue to do so."

Looks like Naija is coming up short in the Olympics. Checked the medal table and no where to be found but I still hope the contenders in track and field will excel.

For your information, the world's best track and field athletes--or the best ones who haven't tested positive for dope and other banned substances--will take center stage starting tonight. So watch out for your Naija athletes--the aging Mary Onyali and co.

How sad? It is fair to say that Nigeria is conspicuosly absent and insignificant in the Olympic medals because the Eastern boys gracefully took night flight to venus or to other countries who finds it impossible for Nigeria to underrate their sport intelligence. What is it for the blessed ones in a nation that cannot trust it's only intellectual exports? Unclassy to loud mouth and silly not to understand the reason for the flight to foreign lands------> Nigeria does not appreciate talents.
Nothing more baffles me than to hear a reppellent skunk like you with contemptuous Ngbati language criticize an athlete of Igbo race who feels distinguished, blessed and biologically superior from you and your jackass nation. Last night was the first time Portugal ever won a silver medal, an Igbo man made it possible. I am sure he is appreciated and a national hero in Portugal. In his own words... "I left Nigeria because they do not treat their athletes well", that was his statement to the international press. Last night, your Nigeria lost, the world is briefed and Portugal won. Copy that supid.!

Way to go Waypoint1Biafra! How can I buy you a beer maybe hard liquor or even a pop? Please tell me because your answer to the same irritants deserves a reciprocal gesture. Why a great number of the yoroba remain unappreciative continue to marvel me. Could it have some to do with their genealogy from a runaway bini thief?

This is my response to one by Ohafia "Famous Quotes." Didn't wanna crash that thread with none related post hence I'm doing it rrrrrrrrrright heeeeeeeere!
quote:I nearly smashed the TV as I was cheering her on. – Ohafia Udumeze
You sure tripped me with this statement (still LOL). Sorry I can’t control my laughter.
quote:You could tell that there was no argument about travel allowance and match bonus.
Try she was valued and allowed to compete without the stupid “quota” distraction. What the hell is quota? You have a crime induced yoroba on one end wanting to represent even though the credentials are lacking. On the other side a clueless awusa chap whose only claim to any sports performance is daddy’s political connections. What do you get a super mediocre sports team that does not know how a Brass medal look like much more a Cooper, how about a Bronze for crying? Huh? Answer me you proud nigerians! It did be a stretch to throw in a Gold request therefore I’ll leave it at Brass Medal, if they could. An Igbo/BIAFRAN made a difference in Portugal’s sport’s history another Igbo/BIAFRAN in Spain brought the beacon home for a country that truly appreciates her talent yet the sleepy bribe infested land you call nig… whatever continue to show ingratitude towards our flock.
quote: ““Don”t even talk about it. I don”t want to talk about it. Nigeria is not the issue here. It is better to talk about my country, Portugal. – Culled from Ohafia’s post
Smart! An Igbo gene in action is the way I see this. If I were advising though it would’ve been “Don’t even ever try! Don’t go there! What the hell is nigeria???” What part of Portugal/Igbo my country do you not understand?

When a yoroba like your type start telling the truth then I'm dying. If your type of yoroba stumbles into "truth" he would still be clueless what he hit.
And how do you treat the same Igbo/BIAFRAN chap that secured this Silver Medal for a country that cares about his well being, respects and appreciates his talents and above all says thank you?

You know it's not all about winning but about taking part. Well, a Yoroba British has been going round making speeches as an olympian. His name is Phillip Idowu.
This was how a British tabloid rated the Olympian performance of this Oduduwa "gladiator". Observe that just like the BiafraNigerian Falcons blamed the referee for their loss to Germany, Chief Idowu cajoled the officials into allowing him an illegal 3rd attempt. Hmmmm, read on:
quote: IDOWU OUT AFTER TRIPLE JUMP FARCE
From Alex Spink
PHILLIPS IDOWU completed a disastrous evening for Britain as he failed to trouble the scorers in his quest to succeed Jonathan Edwards as Olympic triple jump champion.
Idowu could manage only three no-jumps and said: "The last attempt I ended up taking off my wrong foot. I tried my best to relax the whole time. It just did not happen."
Sixth behind Edwards in Sydney four years ago, there were high hopes Idowu would make the podium in last night's final.
But the 25-year-old Belgrave Harrier missed the half-way cut with an embarrassing blank beside his name.
He was even given an extra attempt to get it right after winning a row with officials over his second jump which he argued was wrongly called foul.
But rather than make it tell, he responded with another red flag to match his brightly coloured hair.
The joke on his RED hair was not lost on this fellow African who wrote in from Morrocco:
quote:In last 2 Olympics, the great Michael Johnson did all work he had to do, before he used the golden shoes. And then when he used them, they matched well with him and his brave performances. He deserved all respect and admiration. However this guy Phillip Idowu seems he painted his hair before he learnt how to jump!
PS: It was sad to see the management of OduaTEl go. The reason adduced for their sack by the Yoroba governors was that they spent a substantial part of the capital in the launching festivities(read owambe) without investing a dime in infrastructure. Methinks they've been scape-goated. Pleasure b/4 work is a yoroba thing, and it ain't their fault.

It seems the world is not fully aware of the disaster these Yoruba/Hausa cultures can bring to any organizations they're part of, with their lazy attitude to work. They need to go to nigeria and witness first hand how the Yoruba/Hausa can take wealth and abundance and turn them into blight and miserable failure -- with no shame!
In nigeria this Idowu guy will be made 'minister of sports', possibly because he knows how to loose a long jump.

I watched the 100m final. I held my breath for those sub 10 seconds and then burst into excitement to celeberate with the Igbo Portugese silver medalist.
I DON'T like these crazy lazy Nigerians who moan about every success they failed to twart. It wasn't long ago they moaned about Ngozi earning peanuts to run the economy of a bankrupt banana republic. I am sure they will moan if and when an Igbo born man or woman goes to space for their adopted country.

I am so glad and proud of Francis Obiekwelu, for leaving that God forsaken country for a more appreciative Country. I jump and shout louder when him wins the Gold. Obasanjo and his cronies eat your hearts out.

quote:Indiscipline cause of boxers Olympic failure, says Okorodudu
By Anthony Abolo,Jr.
Reporter, Lagos
Olympian Jerry Okorodudu has attributed Nigeria’s poor outing at the Olympics to indiscipline amongst the officials responsible for the welfare of the athletes.
He said that the boxers and officials were not in good terms all through the period spent in camp in Cuba and this led to their poor performance in spite of the high hopes and expectations.
According to the ex- Olympian, “the boxers and the officials were not in good terms .They were always fighting and quarrelling amongst themselves. While the officials wanted one thing, the coaches wanted another.”
He further said that the Director of Sports was given bad advice by some officials and this affected the overall performance of the team.He said there was bad blood between the secretary and the coaches as a result of the advice given to the director of sports.
Citing examples, he said that the team did not go with training partners to Cuba which was wrong saying that sparring partners were needed as a part of the training process.
“We need training partners to enhance the performance of the boxers. All they were doing in Cuba was just going daily to the gym to train on their own and return to their rooms. It is not done that way” he said.
Okorodudu said he received an e-mail from one of the boxers telling him that there were some problems in the Nigerian camp in Cuba.
He said he was told that the boxers had locked out their officials in one instance saying that they were not ready to work with Nigerian officials anymore because they were corrupt and were in the habit of womanizing instead of taking interest in the task that had brought the team to Cuba in the first place.
He concluded by saying that he was not ready to speculate on what went wrong in Greece until the team returns to tell their story.

What language is UMUNEDE? Yoroba, Awusa, Spanish ok, let's try French. I guess if the Awusa redraws the borders of the palmy nation with Ibadan belonging to a new state, say Rivers that makes the yoroba of Ibadan Ikwerrians?
A little schooling in semantics and the 'yoroba' meaning of few Igbo words at no charge to the hapless dunce would do, I hope.
UMU - Children N’ - And EDE - Cocoyam
Francis Obikwelu translates Obi - Heart; Kwelu - Agreed.
