I have been wondering about the reason for the inferior quality of things written by "Yoroba scholars." When I saw that the same inferiority problem for the Yoruba man exists here at BNW, I began to study the writing of Yoruba people on this board more closely. I have determined that the problem stems from the inferior free education that Awolowo gave to Yoruba people using Igbo oil money.
Some of us may think that Hausa-Fulani people are the most dependent on oil in the country. But, take a look at the Yoruba. That place is completely dependent on proceeds from oil. Awolowo free education taught them that everything is free and they don't have to produce anything.

In fairness to Awolowo, he financed his free primary education in the old Western Region from proceeds of Cocoa and not oil.
Awolowo, a man of great vision, made sure that all rural areas of the old Western Region had pipe-borne water and electricity which up till today are non-existent in some parts of old Eastern and Northern Regions.
What else will one ask of a leader? He gave them free education, He lighted their homes with electric bulbs instead of kerosine lamps. He provided them with decent drinking water which is still a luxury to most parts of the North and East. Let's face it. The man uplifted his people with the only resources in their region ... cocoa.

Not true! The only time Awolowo used cocoa money was when he was Premier of Western Region. Once oil was discovered, Awolowo shifted 100% from cocoa to oil. He asked for and became finance minister, taking full control of oil revenues. Almost every educated Yoruba man alive today got free education from oil money.

MASSOB You are absolutely right, not only that Awolowo used oil money he also made a U turn, during his Temor as the Premier of Western Region he was forefront in advocating Principle drivation. However once he became the Federal Minister for finance he abolished Principle of drivation. This happened when cocoa was no longer the cash cow of Nigeria Economy. When agriculture was the main stay of Nigeria Economy, Groundnut pyramid in the North, Cocoa in the west, Palm produce in the East. Because cocoa was yielf money foreign revenue than the other two Awo was #1 proponent of Principle of drivation. Remember Awo coined that fresh Principle of Drivation, although some people in Biafranigeria will today claim amenaesia about that word because most of the revenue today is coming from the East and their minority neigbors.
Remember, the Igbos are not very good with socialism/communism, regardless of the emergency war measures put in place during the war.
When Biafra regains control of its economy, private effort will get the responsibility to build telecommunications, cable systems, power generation, manufacturing and industry. Road and street construction, water supply, town planning and the provision of electricity to consumers may be socialized strickly at the local level, with the Biafran Federal govenment subsidizing local governments according to need.
But until education is guarranteed to be of the highest quality at all levels, better than public schools in most inner US cities, I don't believe its a good idea to make it free, although the Biafran government will see to it that it provides adequate funding to guarrantee that all children are enroll until the 12th grade. At the college level, I doubt Nsukka would have produced the best of them all if it was made from the beginning.
Most importantly, manufacturing wiil flourish and food will be in great abundance, with plenty to export to needy, starving nigeria.

What Tagbo the originator of this thread said if you pay attention is the quality of education the yoroba got not its funding. You said "He [awo]gave them free education." Good but Tagbo opined based on his research into the absence of qualitative writings by the yoroba that the education they got was "inferior' with the result being LAZINESS due to their expectation of everything else being free as you know.

Remember we the Yorubas have a Nobel prize to our culture, you ibos have nothing. You Una people flooded the west particularly Lagos and living 10 in a room to enjoy our free education system. We Yorubas still remains the best educated people in Nigeria. Lastly that explains why most of those who post on this site can't spell

Mr. Educator, see if you could notice your errors since we're now in the pettiness business of spell check. You see it's always dangerous to bring grammar nuances in a public forum especially when one's (you) ability is constrained due to "inferior" education. The last time I checked the institution of higher learning that put that palmy nation on the world map is in the Eastern Region/BIAFRA/Igbo... "Nsukka of course!"
This was for the purpose of rebuttal since the yoroba are ‘masters’ at grammar, champion spelling bees and grammarians. You’re not expected to commit such errors as you did. Guys, let’s drop the babyish junk and get serious as to what to do to a sinking or sunk nation.

Wrong, your not.
What is education if it is merely based on arts [drums and dance] without the science and tech? If you claim that the Yorubas are the most educated people in NIgeria, tell us what the Yoruba man/woman has invented for humanity or in your own backyard? The only visible invention that Nigerians can associate with the Yorubas is Owambe and by the way, the name Owambe was coined by an Igbo man. The Yorubas have never been more educated than Igbos in particular. The only difference between you and the Igbos is that you make noise and have nothing to back it up. Education is about invention, social skill and economy,frankly, you don't swing.
The average IQ of an Igbo child is greater than any child in Yoruba land and thats a fact. If your claim was based in the early 50's, yes the Yorubas had the opportunity then. Today, the Igbos are the most educated and hard working discoveries in Nigeria. I thought we have cleared this matter with Professor something in 2002.

Sorry! But I've stated the obvious the onus is on you to disprove that Nsukka of course put your zzzing nation on the map of higher learning. We're not in dispute which the premier institution of higher learning is but which elevated that nation is the contention.
