In this thread we want to collect the racially inspired abominable acts of evil as perpetrated by Major Nzeogwu and his gang of killers in the fateful morning hours of Januray 15 in 1966. Feel free to include links and accounts of what truly happened.
The official nigerian police report on the January 1966 coup is very disturbing, as it portrays the coup plotters in general and Major Nzeogwu in particular, as cold blooded killers, killing not only politicians and military personnel along with their wives, but also civilians. In one unfortunate case, the little daughter of a nigerian politician witnessed the execution of her parents by Major Nzeogwu. In another very sad and horrifying instance one of the coup plotters, Major Tim Onwatuegu, assassinated Brigadier A. Ademulegun and murdered Ademulegun's seven-months pregnant wife, ripping her body and the unborn child with bullets.

Let us therefore recall the evildoers of January 1966, whose bloody acts ignited the pogroms against ibos in the summer of 1966. Let us eternally be reminded that in our world today, coup d'états and political assassinations are not the answer to a nation's problems. This thread should serve as a reminder to all ibos who constantly complain about being "marginalized" and discriminated against in Nigeria, that the law of cause and effect is divinely given, and is very much in effect in Nigeria today. Since the end justifies the means, the very fact that "The Republic of Biafra" was and is a failure, it is clear that NOTHING justifies the acts of those who tried in vain to bring about Biafra, and those who still try.

Let it also be known to some out there with snail-minds that not everyone with an anti-biafran opinion is automatically a non-ibo or an ibo-hater. It's worthwhile to mention that Ojukwu's own son, and many other children from the leaders of the defunct Biafran government are anti-biafran, but pro-ibo.

Long Live the Ibo Tribe!

CRUSADER,
The list of Evilmen of hausa/fulani origin include : Yakubu Gowon
Usman Kastina
T. Y. Danjuma
Maj. J. USENI
Maj. wushishi
col Bako
This is just to mention a few ringleaders. The other ranks who do not speak any other language but hausa, took orders from these evilmen of northern origin and massacred innocent women and children. Read the rest of the actual killings by these murderes/evilmen reported by foreign and western jounalists.

GENOCIDE COMMITTED AGAINST BIAFRANS BY EVILMEN OF NORTHERN NIGERIA ORIGIN.

In some areas outside the East... Ibos were killed by local people with at least the acquiescence of the

federal forces... 1000 Ibo civilians perished in Benin in this way (New York Review, 21 December 1967)

" after the federal take over of Benin... troops killed about 500 Ibo civilians after a house-to-house search" (Washington Morning Post, 27 September, 1967)

"The greatest single massacre occurred in the Ibo town of Asaba where 700 Ibo male were lined up and shot"

(London Observer, 21 January, 1968)

"Federal troops... killed, or stood by while mobs killed, more than 5000 Ibos in Wari, Sapele, Agbor..."

(New York Times, 10th January, 1968)

"There has been genocide on the occasion of the 1966 massacres... the region between the towns of Benin and

Asaba where only widows and orphans remain, federal troops having, for unknown reasons, massacred all the

men" (Le Monde, 5th April, 1968)

"In Calabar... federal forces shot at least 1000 and perhaps 2000 Ibos, most of them civilians" (New York

Times, 18th January, 1968).

"Bestialities and indignities of all kinds were visited on Biafrans in 1966. In Ikeja Barracks

(Western Nigeria) Biafrans were forcibly fed on a mixture of human urine and feaces. In Northern Nigeria

numerous Biafran house-wives and nursing mothers were raped before their husbands and children. Young girls

were abducted from their homes, working places and schools and forced into sexual intercourse with sick,

demented and leprous men. Mr. Erif Spiff (Eyewitness, 1966)

"There has been genocide, for example on the occasion of the 1966 massacres ... Two areas have suffered

badly [from the fighting]. Firstly the region between the towns of Benin and asaba where only widows

and orphans remain, Federal troops having for unknown reasons massacred all the men. According to

eyewitnesses of that massacre the Nigerian commander ordered the execution of every Ibo male over the age

of ten years." Monsignor Georges (sent down on a fact-finding mission by His holiness the Pope), Le

Monde (French Evening newspaper) April 5, 1968.

"... 650 refugee camps... contained about 700,000 haggard bundles of human flotsam waiting hopelessly

for a meal, outside the camps... was the reminder of an estimated four and a half to five million

displaced persons... the kwasiokor scourge... a million and half children... suffer(ed) from it during

January; that put the forecast death toll at another 300,000 children... More than the pogroms of 1966,

more than the war casualties, more than the terror bombings, it was the experience of watching

helplessly their children waste away and die that gave birth to... a deep and unrelenting loathing... It is a

feeling that will one day reap a bitter harvest unless... " (Frederick Forsyth, Umuahia, Biafra

January 1969) "...I saw several hundred of Zombie-like creatures -men, women and children, lying, sitting or squatting

in the midst of others who were dead. The living ones were completely reduced to skeletons and could not

talk. I was seeing for the first time... kwashiorkor... Frankly, I took fright... I believe

that any foreign troops from anywhere in the world occupying Ikot Ekpene or any other town in Biafra

would have shown much more sympathy..." (Gen. Alex Madiebo, Ikot Ekpene, July 1968)

"One word now describes the policy of the Nigerian military government towards secessionist Biafra:

genocide. It is ugly and extreme but it is the only word which fits Nigerias decision to stop the

International Committee of the red Cross, and other relief agencies, from flying food to Biafra ..."

Washington Post (editorial) July 2, 1969 "The loss of life from starvation continues at more

than 10,000 persons per day - over 1,000,000 lives in recent months. Without emergency measures now, the

number will climb to 25,000 per day within a month - and some 2,000,000 deaths by the end of the year.

The new year will only bring greater disaster to a people caught in the passion of fratricidal war."

Senator Kennedy appeals to Americas Leaders for greater humanitarian aid to Nigeria - Biafra and

efforts to end the civil war. Sunday, November 17, 1968

"...it (mass starvation) is a legitimate aspect of war..." Anthony Enahoro, Nigerian Commissioner for

Information at a press conference in (New York, July 1968)

"Starvation is a legitimate weapon of war, and we have every intention of using it against the rebels..."

(Alison Ayida, Head of Nigerian Delegation, Niamey Peace Talks, Republic of Niger, July 1968)

"All is fair in war, and starvation is one of the weapons of war. I dont see why we should feed our

enemies fat in order for them to fight harder." Chief Obafemi Awolowo (Minister of Finance)

" ...the Ibos must be considerably reduced in number"

(Lagos Policeman quoted in New York Review, 21 December, 1967)

"I want to see no Red Cross, no Caritas, no World Council of Churches, no Pope, no missionary and no UN

delegation. I want to prevent even one Ibo fron having even one piece to eat before their

capitulation. We shoot at everything that moves and when our troops march into the centre of Ibo territory, we shoot at everything even at things that do not move... " ( Benjamin Adekunle. Commander, 3rd

Marine Commando Division, Nigerian Army).

"...The war aim and (final) solution properly speaking of the entire problem...is to discriminate against the

Ibos and in their own interest. Such discrimination would include above all the detachment of those

oil-rich territories in the Eastern Region... in addition, the Ibos' freedom of movement would be

restricted, to prevent their renewed penetration into other parts... leaving any access to the sea to the

Ibos... is quite out of the question..." (Federal Nigerian Minister to E. C. Schwarzenback, Swiss Review

of Africa, February 1968)

"Let us go and crush them. We will pillage their property, rape their womenfolk, kill off their

menfolk and leave them uselessly weeping. We will complete the pogrom of 1966" (The theme song of Radio

Kaduna, government-controlled, 1967-1970).

"Unfortunately this [Gowon's] enlightenment at the top level does not penetrate very deep: a lagos police

officer was quoted last month as saying that the Ibos must be considerably reduced in number" Dr Conor

cruise O'Bien , 21 December 1967 New York review

"The same UNICEF representative went on to convey something of what lay behind this intransigence:

"Among the large majority hailing from that tribe (Yorubas) who are most vocal in inciting the complete

extermination of the Ibos, I often heard remarks that all Nigerias ills will be cured once the Ibos have

been removed ..." Dr Conor Cruise O'Bien (21 December, 1967, New York review).

"Until now efforts to relieve the Biafran people have been thwarted by the desire of the central government

of Nigeria to pursue total and unconditional victory and by the fear of the Ibo people that surrender means

wholesale atrocities and genocide. But genocide is what is taking place right now - and starvation is the

grim reaper. This is not the time to stand on ceremony, or to go through channels or to observe

the diplomatic niceties.

The destruction of an entire people is an immoral objective even in the most moral

of wars. It can never be justified; it can never be condoned." Mr Richard Nixon, September 9, 1968

(During the Presidential campaign).

It is an established fact that as from May 1966 a nationwide ethnic cleansing took place in the nigerian military and nigerian government institutions, whereby ibos where systematically killed. The Federal Troops of Nigeria continued with the genocidal trend later on in the war as from 1967, further committing horrible acts of mutilations, rape, torture and mass killings (e.g. "Dance of Death").

However, we must realize that the nigerian killers of summer 1966 were invited to do their despicable acts of evil by the ibo-led coup plotters AND by Aguiyi-Ironsi and Ojukwu. Both of them were/are ibo leaders, who, for reasons best known to them, failed to 1) court martial the coup plotters and 2) properly issue out justice unto the coup plotters, thus sending out a clear signal to Nigeria about the greater ibo agenda behind the ibo-led coup of January 15 1966.

It's very simple: if you slap me I'll slap you back. Tit for tat. Eye for eye. Tooth for tooth. Nothing personal!

The earlier the great ibo tribe realizes this fact, the better. It is not very healthy for any nation to have murderers and killers of pregnant women as national heroes, neither is it wise to have a loser like Ojukwu as a role model.

Crusader,
I will not continue this debate with you because you have refused to accept the fact that your people the Hausa/fulani and yorubas committed a shameful act of genocide against Biafrans. Those soldiers who carried out the first coup in 1966, were nationalist who wanted to put an end to the horrible suituation in nigeria.

What you failed to inform your readers is the fact that Awolowo was behind that coup,He was to be installed the head of government if the coup
ploters had successed. Incidentally the reason for that coup in 1966 still exist today in nigeria and has gotten worse. I will end my reply to your garbage, because you are so blinded to the truth. While we wait, let us see who laughs last at the end of the day in this mess called nigeria.

Crusader - the Lord of the Realm?
Good that you've found your way to BNW. Keep the posts coming. Continue exposing the lies spread by money-hungry biafran politicians. Please, in referring to the Igbo tribe, be so kind and spell the name Igbo correct (with "g"), ok? Thanks.

Chima, could it be that the reason why you back out is because you have nothing more to say? Crusader clearly agreed with you that ethnic cleansing took place in Nigeria, yet you bark. The infamous claim of Pa Awo's involvement in the January coup is as baseless and ridiculous as claiming that Elvis is still alive.

The attack on the Premier's Lodge at Kaduna, January 15 1966.

A heavily armed soldier troop consisting of nearly 40 (fourty) soldiers made their way to the Premier's Lodge. The force was led by Major Nzeogwu who was travelling in a landrover accompanied by a driver and two OR's. He was followed by another landrover containing Sgts. Adebiyi, Manga and Oyegoke who were armed with two 84mm Carl Gustav Anti-Tank Guns and 6 projectiles.

Following this were a number of other vehicles, landrovers and a 3-Tonner containing 2/Lts. Waribor and Omeruah and troops from "C" Coy 3rd BN NA. On arrival at the main gate to the compound, Major Nzeogwu found 4 Police Constables on guard in front of the gate.

Major Nzeogwu, who was armed with a sterling SMG, ordered the constables to face the wall. One of them complied with this order but the three others refused. Without further ado, Major Nzeogwu immediately opened fire on them with his SMG killing all three on the spot.

Immediately after the killing of the policemen, Major Nzeogwu ordered the two men with the guns and the 3 NMTC Sergeants to follow him into the compound, bringing with them the Carl Gustav guns and the projectiles for these weapons.

Immediately inside the compound, Major Nzeogwu stationed the Carl Gustavs some 10 yards apart facing the lodge. The gunners were Sgts. Oyegeke and Manga, whilst Sgt. Adebiyi acted as ammunition number. As soon as both guns had been loaded, Major Nzeogwu ordered the NCOs to open fire at the Lodge. Both fired their projectiles bursting inside the ground floor rooms of the building. Sgt. Adebiyi stated that he then ran towards Sgt. Manga to help this NCO reload.

Whilst he was with Manga he heard Major Nzeogwu shouting repeatedly "Fire you bastard, fire". Immediately after this both Manga and Adebiyi heard a burst of SMG fire. They turned round and observed Sgt. Oyegoke slumped on the ground bleeding from multiple wounds. It was clear to both that their colleague had been killed by Major Nzeogwu either for refusing to obey or because he attempted to run away.

After the killing of Oyegeke, Major Nzeogwu ordered Sgt. Adebiyi to take over Oyegeke's gun and to continue firing at the house. Both Adebiyi and Manga, frightened by Oyegoke's killing, continued to fire as ordered. They used a total of 5 projectiles. As a result the building caught fire.

Whilst all this was happening, 2/Lst. Waribor and Omeruah had arrived with the men from 3rd BN who were rapidly deployed around the outer perimeter wall of the lodge. Although these men heard the bursting of the Carl Gustav projectiles, the SMG and SLR fire and the screaming of women and children inside the compound, they were in no position to observe what was happening.

2/Lt. Waribor, whilst deploying his men, instructed them to shoot anyone they observed attempting to leave the compound. A number of civilians, including women, however, were seen running and crying and Major Nzeogwu firing at them with his SMG.

NA 502342 Cpl. Yakubu Kaje of 3rd BN NA reports that, at a given moment, he observed a civilian coming out of the Lodge armed with a sword. The corporal and the men with him stopped the civilian and ordered him to drop the sword. At this moment, according to the corporal, Major Nzeogwu arrived on the scene and asked the civilian, in Hausa, for the whereabouts of the "master of the house". The man replied that he did not know, whereupon Major Nzeogwu threatened to kill him unless he led him to his master. The man then agreed and led Major Nzeogwu to the back of the building. A shortwhile afterwards, the corporal states, he heard a number of shots fired. Assuming that Kaje is telling the truth, it is probable that the Sardauna of Sokoto died at that moment.

Cpl. Kaje has further reported that when the firing ceased, Major Nzeogwu came from the compound and was met at the gate by 2/Lt. Waribor, who asked the Major: "Did you get the man?", to which Nzeogwu answered, "Yes". When Major Nzeogwu left the compound he stated for all to hear, exultantly, "I have been successful, he is dead".

It has not been possible to establish the circumstances in which the senior wife of the deceased Premier was killed. The same applies to the death of one Zaruni, the Premier's personal body-guard. It is presumed that they died at the same time as the Premier.

With regards to the killing of Ahmed Ben Musa, Senior Assistant Secretary (Security) in front of the Lodge, none of the men interrogated has admitted to having witnessed this. Ahmed Ben Musa was shot dead in his car by a number of unidentified soldiers, having arrived at the Premier's Lodge after being alerted by the police. Presumably the soldiers had ordered Musa to drive away but he could not do so for some unexplained reason. They then killed him.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Uwazuruike should leave Igbo alone

By
Emeka Egwuatuonwu

IT was in mid-1965 that a meeting held by seven Majors of the Nigerian Army, majority of whom were Igbo namely: Chukwuma Nzeogwu; Emmanuel Ifeajuma; Donatus Okafor; Humphrey Chukwuka; Christian Aunforo; Chudi Sokie; and Adewale Ademoyega (the only Westerner – Yoruba) planned a coup which was executed on January 15, 1966. The coup landed the country a three-year civil war.

advertisement

In the North, West and Mid-West, politicians and military officers were killed. In the East, no politician was hurt, let alone being killed. The most senior officer in the Nigerian Army at the time, Maj-Gen. John Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi Ironsi, successfully foiled the coup from Lagos. What was left of the Federal Civilian Government was quickly handed over to Gen. Ironsi by the Senate President, Dr. Nwafor Orizu, an Igbo by tribe and the General, also an Igbo by tribe, took full responsibility of the Federal Government of Nigeria. In the North, Nzeogwu, an Igbo, was in control, while Ironsi was in control in the South.

So, the coup started there in the North by an Igbo and it was foiled by an Igbo in the South. All these sons of Igbo origin took these risks in the interest of this country, Nigeria.

How long are we going to be deceived? When Chief Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu came back from exile after 13 years, the Igbo welcomed him as a hero because we gave him the mandate to fight. But decades after the war, Odumegwu-Ojukwu is now supporting the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra. He opened an office in the United States for the campaign and after returned to Nigeria to pick up a form to vie for the post of the Nigerian president. One leg here, the other leg there, who is deceiving who?

He said we Igbo are fools to be investing in ASPMADA International Trade Fair Complex while he is busy developing the Nnewi Building in Apapa with business plazas and properties in Ikoyi . He told us during the Abacha regime that Gen. Sani Abacha was the best thing that ever happened to Nigeria, just because he found himself in the corridors of power as he was sent to the US for image laundering.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Chief Raphael Uwazuruike should leave the Igbo alone. Uwazuruike wants the Igbo to leave Nigeria as a country to Biafra as their own country, while he is busy building temple of peace in Lagos . I think if he is sincere, he should by this time be living in Igboland with his entire household, not in Lagos and Ivory Coast.

Having fought, won and lost the civil war, Nigeria came together again following Biafra’s surrender. Let us forget the past and look into the future and think of building a strong and united nation.

Egwuatuonwu is the former President-General, Igbo Youth Congress.

I wouldn't be surprised given Nwa-Afor's antecedents here. But I am not far off the mark like Biafra has revealed, in anycase the piece is garbage and not worthy of serious debate. The obvious lies in the article are enough to dismiss it outright.

All one needs to do is first of all notice that Egwatuonwu identifies himself as "former President-General of Igbo Youth Congress". One would then go on to recall that Igbo Youth Congress was the spur-of-the moment, flash-in-the-pan ensemble hurriedly put together by Ojo Maduekwe to beat the praise-singing drums of Obasanjo, in the Southeast zone, during his re-election campaign. And then bingo! One suddenly discovers where Egwuatuonwu is coming from; one suddenly uncovers his flawed background! One then proceeds to wonder how much he has been paid to do this master's bidding of his.
