Odili,
I believe we see eye-to-eye in these particular point.

Regarding Ojukwu's seeming endorsement of Northern candidates namely Buhari and Atiku. You have to really look at this strategic move from a military point of view "DIVIDE and CONQUER"

Dim Ojukwu knows that without the support of Igbos, neither Buhari nor Atiku will win the election principally coz Obasanjo will rig them out. The north will be far less likely to attack Obasanjo if they know Igbos are not with them. They will assume Igbos may facilitate the break-up of Nigeria in the event of northerners violently protesting against OBJ's rigging.

What this all means is that the North will seriously want the Igbo support. Now this is where the logic lies......in exchange for this gravely needed Igbo support, Igbos can reach a bargain with the North whereby they will let the Igbo states to be controlled by Igbo parties.

The way Nigeria has been structured at present, there is no way an Igbo man can win the presidency. But if we start now to secure states, then it becomes more possible.

If Ojukwu were to solely back OUK, OUK will still not win the presidency, and secondly, Igbos would have lost the chance of getting into alliance with a group who desperately need the presidency, and who will do anything to achieve that goal......including ceding Igbo states to Igbo-controlled parties.

I hope it makes sense

Igbos to borrow a leaf from this!!! Egbe.

"there is need for unity of purpose within the ethnic group for any meaningful development to take place."....Ooni of Ife.

Eso canvasses regional autonomy for Yoruba
From Iyabo Lawal, Ibadan
EMINENT jurist, Justice Kayode Eso (rtd), yesterday declared that regional autonomy for the Yoruba ethnic group is the only panacea for the zone to achieve its set political and economic goals in the national agenda.

The retired Supreme Court justice said in Ibadan, Oyo State capital while addressing the first Business Meeting of the Yoruba World Congress tagged Agbajo Yoruba Agbaye, that there is need to "foster the Yoruba regeneration" by promoting the Yoruba culture and social values in all its ramifications to return the race to its pride of place in the national scheme of things.
Justice Eso presided over the meeting, which lasted four hours. He argued that "promoting the Yoruba and Yorubaland does not make us Yoruba sectionalists or less patriotic Nigerians. The promotion of the Yoruba as an ethnic group is sine qua non in our geo-political, federal culture and growth, if we must exist."
According to the renowned jurist, it was in this spirit that the trio of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Sir Ahmadu Bello chose to be committed and associated closely with their ethnic groups despite their national postures "just like the Irish, the Welsh and the Scots emphasise their individualities, though there is one and only one Great Britain."
In his goodwill message to the forum, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, enjoined the Yoruba to use their resources to foster love and unity within the race, saying there is need for unity of purpose within the ethnic group for any meaningful development to take place.
The monarch, who was represented by Chief Samuel Omisakin, the Obalufon of Ife Kingdom, commended the initiators of the new Pan-Yoruba organisation for their patriotic zeal, urging them not to relent.
He pledged his continual support for any individual and group that is committed to championing the cause of the Yoruba race.
In a 17-point statement issued at the end of the meeting, the Yoruba World Congress advocated peace among the Yoruba people all over the country and enjoined them to participate effectively in the April polls.
The congress also called on the people to further boost the language by making it the mode of communication with their children and wards at home.
The forum, held at the Odua City Hall, also had in attendance prominent Yoruba personalities including Gen. Alani Akinrinade, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Prof. Akinwumi Ishola, Prof. Wale Omole, Chief Adebayo Faleti and Chief Lekan Alabi, among others.
