How about Achike Udenwa and Orji Kalu?

United States Government has cancelled the visas of all alleged corrupt Nigerian officials, including indicted Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, dismissed Education Minister, Professor Fabian Osuji and former Inspector General of Police, Tafa Balogun.

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell made this known in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Monday in an interactive session with journalists saying “America is in full support of the anti-graft war in Nigeria. Our support for the anti-corruption is political.”

He added that the support for the anti-graft war is part of the U.S engagement to ensure good governance and transparency stressing that if the incidences of corruption, violence and crime were not checked, it could deter private Americans from investing more in the country, pointing out that that explained why there tend to be more investment in-flow in Canada, South East Asia and other relatively calm African countries.

On the Niger Delta socio-economic and environmental problems, Campbell said the issues could be addressed and solved by the people themselves adding: “We can only give technical support to assist but we cannot solve the problems.”

According to him, there is much U.S assistance in the Agricultural and Health sectors of the country. On the cooperation of the American Oil and Gas companies operating in the country he, however, sued for understanding on the part of the people of the Niger Delta, saying that those companies operate in partnership with the Nigerian government. As such, “ We support our companies to be good corporate citizens in Nigeria,” he said.

As at press time, Campbell continued his engagement with the civil society leaders at the Centre for Advance Social Science (CASS), where the American embassy opened the American corner in Port Harcourt. Campbell was sworn-in as American Ambassador to Nigeria on May 18 and arrived the country on May 20, 2004.

His immediate past assignment was when he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Human Resources. He has been a career public service officer since 1975 and has also served in Paris, Geneva, South Africa, among others.
