We all know that BNW is free speech haven. But, I can fathom no realm of human decency where the insanity and poison of Alchemist could be treated as a part of normal political and intellectual disagreement. Therefore, we should eliminate Alchemist from our midst to send him back to dungeons away from civil society where fascist, Nazi, and his peculiar brand of crude, barbarous, and Hitlerite vitroil is the norm. The inmates and escapees of Nazi sanitoriums should not be entitled to free speech at BNW.

Maazi Ojukwu,

Most of us would agree with you, except that it is important that ALCHEMIST and those who have his view remain in this forum -

1. When more than 500,000 innocent nigerians were massacred in cold blood, it was done openly.

2. When a genocaustal (genocidal and holocaustal war) was waged on the survivors, in which more than 3 million were either massacred or starved to death, it was done in the open.

3. When for more than 30 years plus, a plan to marginalize the survivors out of existance was put in place and continue to be implemented, it continous to be done openly.

4. The yearly massacre of the survivors, be it MASSOB members or other Biafara groups, continue to be done openly.

It is important that ALCHEMIST remain in this forum so that he and people like him can finally understand the POWER of CHI UKWU the Mighty Yah, that they understand the sayings of our fore-parents, 'that those who hold others down, hold themselves down'; that there is no unity in slavery, marginalization and in death.
IT is also important that those who committed these crimes against humanity understand that there is no rest or hiding place for them. It is important that they understand why the BRITISH BIRTHED ABOMINATION AND INSULT TO MOTHER AFRICA - nigeria, must be put to death.

Using the rule of law and the philosophy of our fore-parents it is important that Alchemist and those like him see 'THE POSSIBILITY OF THE IMPOSSIBLE' - the taking apart of the abomination nigeria, piece by piece, knowing that there is nothing any one can do about it.
IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN, SO IT SHALL BE - ISEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

LONG LIVE THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF AREWA!
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC OF ODUDUWA!
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC OF BIAFARA!
LONG LIVE THE OTHER NATIONS THAT ARE ALSO BORN FROM THE SURE DEATH OF THE BRITISH BIRTHED ABOMINATION NIGERIA.

"a completely confused, traumatised, restless, evil, demon-possessed, indoctrinated, tribalist bitter mind of hatred." - Alchemist

When statements like the above are made, it is important that those who make them, if they are honest, ask themselves why?

Do I have to remind us of the imposition of traitors as rulers over Ndi Igbo;
the continuing effort to destablize the so called Igbo stats;
the effort to convert Ndi Igbo to minorities, by hook or croak, forcing Igbo to deny that they are Igbo;
the refusal to implement the so called 3 R'S;
the continuing slaughter of Ndi Igbo, when other nations who do same are overlooked;
...

A testimony to Igbo marginalisation

Tajudeen Lawal

As a non-indigene who has lived in the East for a long time, I can make an assesment of the disenchantment that pervades the thinking of most Igbo. To say that there is very low federal prescence in the South-East will be an understatement. There is no Federal Government presence in the East, as far as I am concerned. Anyone who wants to prove me wrong can simply travel down and see things for him or herself.

Whereas most roads in other geopolitical zones are awarded to reputable and competent construction companies like Julius Berger, those in the East are awarded to less competent construction companies. And even at that, the roads are never completed, but the contract money is always paid to them in full. Simply put, the roads in the East are death-traps. The second Niger Bridge, which the President had promised the people during his electioneering, has remained just a campaign slogan. Mind you, this is the only structure that links the East to the rest of the country, except, of course, you want to go through Benue State. The bridge right now is under serious pressure and experts say there is a need to relieve it of the excess pressure.

The fact that the Nigerian civil war ended 35 years ago is like a fairy tale to most Easterners. The policemen and soldiers still act as if they are an occupying force in an enemy territory, subjecting the people to their whims and caprices. Policemen here do not collect N20 at checkpoints, but demand thousands of naira especially during festive periods when many of the people will be coming back home.

While Arewa youths in the North, opc in the West, and Niger Delta Force in the South-South are allowed to run amok, causing terror, fear, and death, massob members who are not violent are usually hunted, killed or imprisoned without an option of bail. 54 footballers, spectators and match officials participating in the Uwazurike Cup tournament, were arrested and detained by the police last year. No one, not even journalists, ngos or rights activists ever fought for their fundamental human rights. Yet, Asari Dokubo was given a presidential welcome in Abuja with a N300 million “gift’’ to stop his chaos in the creeks of the Niger Delta.

It is only the Senate presidency, which was zoned to the Igbo, that has been targeted for ridicle with the potent weapon of bribery and corruption, as if it is only the Senate that is corrupt. Yet, little or nothing is done about the corrupt practices of our past and present rulers.

While economic policies are directed towards stemming the importation of goods, which is usually dominated by the Igbo, nothing is done about trade in foreign currencies in most major towns and cities in the country. This is a business run by our Northern brothers. But the truth is that this trade has continued to damage the preference for our local currency, the naira, and increase the demand for the dollar, pound and other foreign currencies.

The Igbo must go back to God in prayers. He will surely restore them to their glorious days.

•Lawal wrote from 33, Mbonu Street, Onitsha, Anambra State.

WP1,

Does this not vindicate the Biafran opinion about the fanatical Muslim north and the violence freely practiced against Christians(Igbos)? Does it not also give Obasanjo a slap in the face with regard to his phony anti-corruption campaign. And isn't it a complete rejection of the criminal government in Abuja? I wouldn't be surprised if baba iyabo enters Aso Rock by shouting "Open Sesame!" And we all know he's got way more than forty thieves.

I predicted this something like this some while ago in various threads...

quote:
Yes, Nigeria has the trappings of democracy, the outward appearance, and Republican party presidents are known to overlook problems with the internal affairs of other nations, especially if they are on a state visit, to avoid embarassing the host, but Nigerian leaders will soon need to start reading between the lines. Their dog-and-pony democracy show isn't making the cut anymore. This report by an American diplomatic official is merely telegraphing the future attitude of the US government toward the repressive policies of Nigeria. The genie is out of the bottle.
quote:
Well now, in addition to the CIA, the United States Congress has decided to take a serious look at the state of Nigerian politics. Apparently the United States Congress has commissioned a report on the Nigerian state. While congressional reports do not constitute the "official" position of the United States, one can be sure that the findings of such a report will have far-reaching impact on the attitudes of lawmakers as it regards the present Nigerian government
quote:
As a result of these last, and other foolish comments by Fani-Kayode representing the official government line, no one should be surprised to see the U.S. slowly dis-engage itself from Obasanjo, whose corrupt and illegitimate government is becomming grossly apparent to the world at large, rendering itself the more odious by hypocritically pretending to prosecute a war against corruption.
I would like to read more about the deliberations taken prior to making this diplomatic move, specifically, whether such included other reasons like human rights violations, ethnic oppression, election rigging, etc.

Beginning of the end: The signs of the times!

As events that will lead to the demise of the ‘British Birthed Abomination – NIGERIA’ continue to unfold, I am again forced to ask our brethren abroad, especially those in the United States of America, what are you doing to help liberate your long suffering brethren from the heavy feet of the oppressors?

We already know that our brethren in Canada have finally decided that enough is enough, and have finally heard the plea of our innocent brethren who lost their lives on the altar of ‘one nigeria’, who number in the millions and whose number even as I write continue to increase.
To our brethren in Canada, I say Ndeewo, May Chi Ukwu the Mighty Yah, continue to bless and strengthen you. Igbo will not forget your sacrifices and your stand on the Truth, for our fore-parents left us the greatest equation of all time, “EZIOKWU BU NDU - Truth is the foundation of Life”.
At least Igbo worldwide now know that the leadership of the Igbo movement in the Americas has passed from the Igbo pretenders in USA to our great brethren in Canada, where it has always belonged and who continue not only to Talk the Talk but more importantly, Walk the Walk.

NDEEWO NU!

The next question is what can Igbo in Diaspora do to hasten our journey to the Promised Land – BIAFARA?

1. If you do not belong to a Biafara organization or you are unable to find one that you are comfortable with, start one. Remember, the more independent organizations we have, the better, what is important, is the commonality of interests.

Why should we have so many independent organizations you ask?

It will be impossible for all these organizations to be bought over, become compromised or wrong. And these organizations are also the training ground for the next generation of Igbo Leaders since as far as we know and can see, the present leadership are a complete and total failure, a leadership that generation to come will spite on for nearly destroying Igbo and converting Igbo to a beggar nation –TUFIAKWA!

Review all the Biafara Coalitions out there and become a member organization of the coalition that best meet the goals of your organization. Since the core philosophy of these coalitions are different, it is important that your organization carefully investigate what the philosophy of each coalition is, and the vision of each coalition as regards OHA.
DO THEY TALK THE TALK AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WALK THE WALK?

2. Contact the coalition you decide to join and find out how you can help move the Igbo agenda.

Umu Igbo, remember, you can either sit on the sideline or you can be part of the solution. In case you decide to sit on the sideline, you will also be expected to sit on the sideline when Biafara is actualized.

Monkey no go walk for Baboon to come chop!

US, UK, Germany shut Nigeria missions on ''terrorist threat''

The United States closed its embassy in the Nigerian capital and consulate in Lagos on Friday due to a "terrorist threat" involving foreign Islamic militants, the U.S. military and diplomatic sources said.

Britain and Germany also closed their Lagos missions, but their Abuja-based diplomatic headquarters stayed open.

Intelligence information from foreign Islamic militant channels indicated a specific threat to the U.S. presence in Nigeria and its Lagos consulate, a diplomatic source said.

"There was some kind of terrorist threat made. It was a terrorist threat that was called in. They knew about it yesterday and decided to close the embassy," said Major Holly Silkman, a spokeswoman for the US European Command, at a military training exercise for West African forces in Senegal.

Nigeria, the world's eighth largest oil exporter, was named by Osama bin Laden as a candidate for "liberation" and the United States said last month it had uncovered links between his al Qaeda network and Nigerians.

"This is not a Nigerian source and there is not necessarily Nigerian participation, but we can't be sure of that," the diplomatic source said, adding that the move was unprecedented.

A British spokesman in London said: "We have closed it because it is on the same road as the U.S. Embassy. We have done this as a precaution."
The Nigerian Foreign Ministry said the police were investigating an "alleged security situation, of interest to both Nigeria and the United States".

A Reuters correspondent in the diplomatic quarter of Lagos saw more than 50 riot police and anti-bomb squad officers searching people and cars entering Walter Carrington Close, home to many diplomatic missions.

RELIGIOUS BLOODSHED

Nigeria's population of 140 million people is divided roughly evenly between Muslims and Christians and the country has a long history of religious bloodshed.

Osama bin Laden in 2003 listed Nigeria as a candidate for "liberation", and he is revered as a hero by many Nigerian Muslims. But diplomats and analysts have until recently played down the influence of al Qaeda in the country.

In a travel warning for Nigeria updated last month, the U.S. State Department said "links also were uncovered connecting Nigerians to al Qaeda in 2004".

A small home-grown Islamic sect known as the "Talibans" staged a series of attacks on government offices and police stations in the remote northeast at the end of 2003, calling for the imposition of an Islamic state.

The uprising was repressed by a heavy military deployment which killed or imprisoned many members of the secretive group.

The Muslim-dominated north of Nigeria maintains close contacts with the rest of the Islamic world, and plays host to many preachers from Saudi Arabia, Iran and elsewhere.

Africa's most populous country has a long, porous border with Niger and Chad, two Islamic nations with long histories of poverty and rebellion that make them a fertile recruiting ground for anti-U.S. militants, analysts say.

One thousand U.S. military experts are training soldiers from nine West African countries including Nigeria in Senegal to curb arms smuggling and stop militants finding havens around the Sahara desert.

Panic in the land as more embassies shut down

Emeka Madunagu, Olayinka Oyebode, Sesan Olufowobi, Dada Aladelokun and Olusola Fabiyi (Abuja) Saturday Punch

There was palpable panic across the country on Friday as more diplomatic missions shut their consulates in Lagos, in response to Thursday’s security scare issued by the United States Embassy.

The U.S Consulate-General shut its operations on Thursday afternoon, citing security reasons, and as if on cue, other consulates on the same Walter Carrington Crescent as the American mission suspended activities.

They include the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, India, Finland, Russia, Sweden and Lebanon.

BBC quoted a spokeswoman for the U.S European Command, at a military training exercise for West African forces in Senegal, Major Holly Silkman, as saying that the embassy received a credible terrorist threat, which according to sources, forced the embassy in Abuja to close at 2.30p.m on Thursday while the consulate-general followed suit a few minutes later.

Silkman said, “There was some kind of terrorist threat made. It was a terrorist threat that was called in. They knew about it yesterday (Thursday) and decided to close the embassy.”

No further details were available.

U.S. Embassy spokeswoman, Mrs. Claudia Anyaso, told CNN that the security matter was “of mutual concern to the United States government and Nigerian government” and that “the issue is being addressed with the help and close collaboration of the Nigerian police.”

Also, a spokesman at the U.S embassy in Abuja, said, “The embassy is reacting to a security incident and we thought it prudent to close.”

Reuters quoted a diplomatic source as saying officials had received information from foreign Islamic militant channels that indicated foreign militants posted a specific threat to the Lagos consulate.

Umuigbo,
This is an interesting essay. Our struggle to get out of this failed state nigeria is our last hope for survival.

Nigeria: The Last of Africa’s Pseudo-Federations

When forecasters of the United States National Intelligence Council predicted the total collapse of Nigeria within 15 years, all hell broke lose. The reactions of the key players in the moribund state highlight the total bankruptcy of black leadership in this epoch. Some of the so-called leaders have called the prediction a glib talk, others have called for the establishment of a national guard while yet others have called for rapid response using arms purchased from Europe, America, China etc. to counter the alleged threat. In fact, the US analysts were merely observing a reality that was all too evident on the ground, if only people would stop burying their heads in the sand and exposing their thinking parts.

Nigerian is a phoney federation. It is beleaguered by so many internal contradictions that its ultimate collapse as a state is now only a matter of time. When that collapse occurs, Nigeria will join the graveyard of other unworkable and meaningless satanic empires constructed by colonial social engineers in Africa and elsewhere in the last century. Nigeria is uniquely evil because in its short violent existence, it has consumed over 2 million Igbo lives. It will certainly not be missed when it goes the way of the defunct USSR, Yugoslavia and other murderous states.

There are some people who are currently benefiting from the satanic state and its evil institutions of brutality. Such people have been ranting and raving about the aforementioned US report, but total break up is now unavoidable and no amount of self-righteous rant will change the course of history. In this essay we aim to interrogate the US report in order to confirm the historical validity of the predicted collapse. We seek to locate Nigeria in the context of other failed pseudo-federations of our time.

Phoney Federations as Bye-products of Colonial Racist Ideology

Nigeria is a bizarre bye-product of the colonial ideology in Africa. This was an ideology that denied the validity of African history and humanity, asserting quite bluntly that Africans were sub-humans with no history. Among the chief theoreticians of this ideology is a H.R. Trevor- Roper, Regius Professor of Modern History at Oxford University England. According to him, Africa had no history at all. Commenting further, he said:

"Perhaps in the future, there will be some African history to teach. But, at present there is none: there is only the history of the Europeans in Africa. The rest is darkness… and darkness is not a subject of history."

Since Africa had no history, Eurocentric scholars and social engineers have ignored local realities and proceeded to create their own version of African history. To match this political ideology, they have even created their own prejudiced lexicons, which differentiated Africa from the rest of humanity. As shown in Table 1, some legacies of this linguistic apartheid are still evident today. For example, Africans are said to have no nations, only tribes, no generals, only warlords etc. Only Europeans produced doctors, soldiers, statesmen generals etc. Africans produced only witches, warriors, tribal chiefs and warlords (Table 1). The application of linguistic and social apartheid to state formation ultimately led to the creation of monstrosities such as Nigeria.

Table 1: Linguistic Apartheid: European vs. African expressions

African Tribes vs. European Nations

Colonial ideologists in Africa did not just hypothesize; they acted on their theories as well. For example, since Africans were deemed incapable of forming nations, it followed that African tribes however large in population, and whether or not they had a common history, culture, occupied a contiguous territory etc. could be amalgamated with other tribes to form new “nations”. These new nations were then expected to embark on the project of nation-building with the expectation that at some unspecified future date, they would become true nations, a stage presumably attained in Europe eon years ago. This was how the Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba, some of the largest true nations of Africa became coerced in one unworkable nation-state called Nigeria.

Of course this was a sharp contrast to what obtained in Europe. As shown in Tables 2 and 3 every nation however tiny had a right to self-determination, a seat in the UN etc. For example, whereas, Luxemburg with 0.04 million population is a fully independent state, over 40 million Igbo, one of the largest true nations of Africa have been denied these rights and coerced into an uneasy alliance with Mohammedans, feudalists etc. in an unworkable contraption called the Nigerian state.

The Rise and Collapse of Pseudo-Federations in Africa

Having convinced themselves that African peoples were incapable of nationhood both historically and developmentally however large, the colonial masters proceeded to form mixtures of these alleged pre-state bands or tribes into units which they called “federations” and other fancy titles. They did this by simply by drawing straight lines on maps. Nigeria is a good example of such unworkable amalgams. It is a false federation which has within its boundaries, Mohammedans, Christians, animists, Igbo Yoruba, Hausa etc. This is a recipe for state failure and disaster for which Africa is justifiably famous.

In fact, the post-colonial history of the Africa and the world is replete with the carcases of these false federations which have collapsed one after the other like a pack of cards. Viewed both historically and comparatively, Nigeria is next on line to go down the ignominious path of other fraudulent federations, some of which are reviewed below.

1. The Central African Federation

This was also known as the federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. It was created by the British in 1953 after a so-called referendum. It comprised of the protectorates of Nyassaland, Northern Rhodesia and the self-governing colony of southern Rhodesia. The unworkable contraption collapsed in 1963, paving the way for the present day modern states of Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

2. East African Federation

A supposed federation of Kenya, Tanganyika, Uganda and Zanzibar, this British contraption was created in 1948. All the usual trappings of the state – joint high commission etc.. were set up. The silly set p however started to fall apart in 1961 following the independence of Tanzania. Today the so-called East African Federation has been consigned to the dustbin of history and in its place are the states of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. That was yet another requiem for a pseudo-African federation, the product of the the colonial ideology in Africa.

3. The Sahel-Benin Union

The British were not alone in setting up worthless federations, the French also set up an unworkable unions in Africa. One purported to amalgamate the states of Dahomey, Ivory Coast, Niger and Upper Volta in 1959. Also known as Conseil de L’Etente, it has since been consigned to the dustbin of history. Elsewhere in the area, the union of Central African republics formed in French Equatorial Africa bit the dust.

4. The Caribbean Federation.

Just as the colonially-inspired pseudo-federations were collapsing like a pack of cards in continental Africa, elsewhere in the black world, the British were busy creating yet more “federations”. The Caribbean federation otherwise known as the West Indies Federation was created in 1958 incorporating Jamaica, Trinidad, Leeward and Windward Islands, Barbados etc. In 1962, the so-called federation came to an abrupt end and its so-called constitution and other paraphernalia of state were consigned to the bin. Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados etc were left in peace to pursue their various destinies

as independent states.

Nigeria – ending a failed state

From the foregoing, it is clear that Nigeria is neither unique nor sacrosanct as we are led to believe. On the contrary, Nigeria is just one of the very many sham federations set up in Africa and elsewhere in the black world under colonial occupation. All of these so-called federations have since failed and have been consigned to the garbage dump of history. The last of them is Nigeria, a state tittering on the edge of the abyss. Therefore to suggest that the Nigerian state is immune to collapse is utter nonsense. The seeds for the collapse are all too apparent, unless urgent steps are taken. In the rest of this essay, we outline the main issues that will finally consign Nigeria to well deserve oblivion:

1. The Igbo Question

One of the largest true nations of Africa, the Igbo have traditionally played a leading role in the great events of black history. The Igbo were the first to challenge colonial slavery. In the Americas, they were key players in the world first successful slave revolt led by Toussaint L’Overture (1743-1803), which led to the foundation of the state of Haiti. In the 18th century, Olaudah Equinoh, an Igbo not only championed the abolition of chattel slavery but also helped to found the state of Sierra Leone which capital was called Freetown for freed slaves.

While Africa languished under colonial rule, another Igbo, James Africanus Beale Horton (1835-1883) - physician, British Army officer, mining entrepreneur and banker –demanded the immediate freedom and sovereignty of Igboland. In fact, Horton was the true father of the Igbo liberation struggles. In addition, it was Edward Wilmot Blyden (1832-1912), another Igbo in Diaspora, born in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands who laid the foundation of West African nationalism and of pan-Africanism while Nnamdi Azikiwe inspired a whole generation of Africans who finally overthrew colonial rule in Africa. Today the great Igbo nation is entrapped in an unworkable and failed state, hemmed in by sundry feudalists and Mohammedans. It is hard to believe that the Igbo nation with such a rich history of resistance and freedom fighting will remain embedded in such an unworkable failed state called Nigeria for any length of time. Therefore Igbo dissociation from the Nigerian state is only a matter of time, unless urgent steps are taken to address their grouse.

Edward Wilmot Blyden, LLD. (1832-1912)

(How long will the Igbo nation remain coerced into a failed state?)

2. The Biafran genocide, 1966-70, an unfinished business.

Biafra (1969): Christopher Kip Warr of Oxfam buries a 4-year Igbo child victim of hatred and genocide

(Courtesy: Patrick Watson and Benjamin Barber)

---------------------------------------

The Biafran war (1967-70) which claimed over 2 million Igbo lives was a horrific crime against humanity, a crime crying out for atonement. In 1970, Biafra’s Gen Philip Effiong was faced with two choices, ending the war or continuing it in a guerrilla format under the platform of the Biafran Organization of Freedom Fighters (BOFF). Effiong chose to end the war with the caveat that the Igbo would fight again if the wrongs which led to war were not corrected. Other world leaders, e.g. President Georges Pompidou of France repeated the same warning i.e. that Biafra would re-emerge in the future unless the Igbo question was carefully resolved.

Nigeria ignored the warnings. Instead, it set about confiscating Igbo bank accounts, their landed properties, destroying their schools, churches, language, cities etc. In 1970, Nigerian leaders proclaimed that money was no problem but how to spend it and yet they refused to rehabilitate the infrastructures damaged in Igbo territory during the war. Today Igbo cities are crumbling while resources extracted from occupied Igbo territories are used to develop Hausa and Yoruba areas. What is left is siphoned abroad and stored in coded bank accounts. Instead of addressing the Igbo grievances, Nigerian rulers have gone to Britain, Russia, Germany, etc. and bought rusty old guns, which have given them the confidence and boldness to treat the Igbo question with flippancy. They are pretending that they won the war, even though no victory was possible without the intervention of Britain, USSR, and the Arab League. As their state totters on the edge of disaster, these people are still rambling on about rapid response, national guard and other degenerative lexicons of force, forgetting that even the USSR, armed to the teeth with conventional and nuclear weapons could not ultimately save itself by sheer force of arms.

And so the alienation of the Igbo from the Nigerian state continues unabated. It is becoming increasingly clear that the Hausa-Fulani and their allies who perpetrated the Biafran genocide and their Igbo victims cannot and will never be governed under one nation-state. To do so would be practically the same as forcing the Armenians and their Turkish killers or the Jews and their Nazi tormentors into one nation-state. Besides, no independence movement of the size and scale of Biafra with the level of sacrifice in known human history ever ended without achieving its aim. This is a simple truth.

Over-centralization of the state amidst internal irreconcilability
Even the defunct USSR allowed its constituent republics their own armies, national football teams. The Soviet republics were even represented in the UN and yet it went down the tube. In fact, the Nigerian state was originally set up as a federation of three republics – north, east and west reflecting the fact that the state itself has within its boundaries, three of the largest African natural nations, each over 30 million in population. The cultural differences separating the Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba are at least as wide as those separating France, Russia, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Iran and Japan. Once the white man’s tutelage was withdrawn, the Nigerian central government under black misrule evolved from the status of a managing agency, into a feudal monarchy, the so-called president presiding over Bantustan-style “states” which “governors” depend on handouts from the centre in the most bestial display of the black man’s gross incompetence and imbecility. This is why Nigeria is unworkable. In fact, Nigeria as it is is comparable to merging France, Russia, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Iran and Japan in a single unitary state and from where we stand, it is stupid; it is impractical and will never work, not now not ever.

3. The clash of civilizations, otherwise known as the war on terror.

America’s 9/11has changed the power equation in Nigeria. We recall that in 1966-70, the West and Russia had armed and supported Islamic forces to take power in Nigeria. In so doing, they inadvertently handed over control of the entire world energy supplies to the wahabists of Saudi Arabia and their northern Nigerian supporters. Today, the same west under attack by al-Qaida have now come to the conclusion that allowing the Islamists to control the Nigerian state and its oil isn’t such a good idea after all.

The Islamists have not helped their case either. For example, some fellows have introduced sharia law in parts of northern Nigeria, stoning women and hurting western sensibilities. Elsewhere, in the area a demented group is seeking to create a Taliban-style regime; while yet another is burning US flags in Kano even as writers are silenced with fatwa. Nigeria’s days as a single state seemed numbered the day Mr bin Laden in one of his video tapes named Nigeria as one of the states he intended to liberate. The world is not about to sit and watch a black Taliban state emerge in Nigeria. Clearly, the time is now ripe for the West to disintegrate Nigeria along its natural fault line. This would at least isolate and quarantine the Hausa-Fulani Islamists in their desert margin where they would pose no threat to the West’s alternative energy supply in the Atlantic coast.

The way things are going, it will soon be a requiem for Nigeria, a state run on the principle of gross injustice. In the grave stone of Nigeria will be written the words: here lies the remains of a genocidal state which oppressed and murdered 2 million Igbo people.

Senate, U.S military chiefs discuss intelligence report

COSMAS EKPUNOBI, Senate Correspondent

RECENT United States (U.S.) intelligence report that Nigeria may disintegrate in the next 15 years and other security issues yesterday reportedly dominated talks between the Senate and visiting American Military Officers.

The meeting which was described as very crucial by the Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani may also have proposed fresh military blue-print that may include more training programmes for Nigerian soldiers.

The 11-member delegation, mainly of the rank of Brigadiers-General, arrived the Senate about 2.00pm yesterday in continuation of their tour of African and European countries.

Leader of the group, Gen. Robert Sennewald of the U.S National Defence University told the Senate that his team was in the nation’s upper legislative chamber to discuss some military operations with Nigeria.

Before the meeting went into closed door session, Gen. Sennewald had told senators to seek clarification from the team on any military matter or policy of their interest.

But Senate preferred to do that in a closed door session which commenced immediately after an opening remarks by Senator Nnamani.

Senator Nnamani, in the remarks, said that the visit of the US top military officers would avail them the opportunity of seeing the real situation of things in Nigeria, rather than what they read in the international media.

Chairman of Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Fidelis Okoro, who moderated the closed door session, explained that though the "nation’s defence policy was rooted into the 1999 constitution, it is, however, being amended to meet the complexities of contemporary defence and security volatility in a land and global contexts."

Feelers from the meeting indicated that the senators sought clarification on the role of us military intelligence on the recent report on Nigeria as a nation about to collapse.

At the end of the meeting, the officers moved the office of the senate president.

We'll declare Niger-Delta Republic - Insurgents threaten

EMMA AMAIZE, Regional Editor, South South
Posted to the Web: Sunday, August 28, 2005

Still smarting from the frustration at the recently concluded National Political Reform Conference, for not achieving 25% derivation, South-South appears set to actualise its threat to control its resources at all costs. To this end, an insurgent group that styles itself, South-South Liberation Movement, has started training youths for guerilla warfare preparatory to declaration of Niger Delta Republic.

SECURITY alert in next to no time after the London bombings last month, which coincided with the walk-out by delegates from the South-South geo-political zone from the just ended National Political Reforms Conference (NPRC) at Abuja, the Federal Government ordered security agents to keep a weather eye on all militant and belligerent groups in the country, chiefly in the uneasy Niger-Delta region. Among the groups that were placed under strict surveillance were the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, led by Ralph Uwazurike; Alhaji Moujahid Asari-Dokubo’s Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF); Arewa Peoples Congress and the Odua Peoples Congress.

To some persons, the shadowing was just the usual government’s fire-brigade reaction to issues of such nature but a security source denied it was a panic-driven measure, saying: "There were sufficient reasons to believe that some private army in the Niger Delta wanted to stir up trouble in the country over the vexed issue of resource control and higher derivation formula.

Besides the band of soldiers, some high-flying political figures in the South-South zone were placed on the watch list with extra-vigilance measures put in place at the oil installations, borders and airports.

About the same period, our Niger-Delta Bureau was tipped off that millions of persons had allegedly been trained and more still undergoing military training in the mangrove forests and swamps of the region, awaiting the last order to go to war for the actualization of the "Republic of Niger Delta".

From illusion to reality: The whole thing appeared incredible until few days ago when Sunday Vanguard through a go-between, met with leaders of the South-South Liberation Movement, a Niger-Delta group which is behind the reinvigorated move to proclaim a Republic of Niger Delta. The visit to some operational bases of the group in Delta and Bayelsa states by Sunday Vanguard was on certain conditions. One was that the locations should not be disclosed by the newspaper to anybody. Two, the photographs that were taken must not be given to security agents for any purpose and, three, it is not all that the eye saw that must be reported.

The group, allegedly led by a retired Warrant Officer of the Nigerian Army who was trained in South- Korea on counter-terrorism had put to paper its intention to declare a "Republic of Niger Delta" to the United Nations. Information at the disposal of Sunday Vanguard indicated that the national coordinator of the Movement, John Adie, who is not a strange face to security agents in the country, has been training in jungle warfare and was once an instructor in the Amphibious Training Wing of the Nigerian Army, Calabar in Cross River State.

Copies of their May 20 letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations, signed by Adie and 15 others had also been forwarded to the Secretary to the Federal Government, all governors and speakers of the six South-South states, the Oba of Benin, Olu of Warri and other royal fathers in the region, all the foreign embassies within and outside the country, South-South leaders and activists.

The quartet of the national coordinator, Adie; deputy national coordinator, Prince Agonaemi Evah, Delta State coordinator, Bailbond Perekelegha and national youth president, Goddy Ewerode who met with Sunday Vanguard at an agreed location in Delta State, last week, said they were not terrorists and were not afraid of death either.

It was gathered that some contingents trained by the movement had been stationed in neighbouring West African countries and if the Federal Government does not properly handle its proposed plan to increase the pump price of petrol to N80 per litre, the activists might just use it as a catalyst to start their insurgency.

Military training camps: Sunday Vanguard discovered that the movement has been working underground in the creeks of Niger Delta for about five years now and has about 150 preparation camps where jobless graduates and undergraduates were allegedly being taught regimentation, weapons handling and jungle warfare. Ex military men from the Niger Delta, especially those that were suddenly retired from the Army, Air force and Navy, were also allegedly learnt to have signed up with the group and are ready to fight for the actualization of resource control. In fact, a collection of retired military pensioners in the South-South who fought on the Nigerian side during the civil war openly declared in Warri, last month that they would join in the emancipation struggle.

A source said security agencies were not ignorant of the fact

that the Niger Delta already has an army ready for war and suicide mission. According to information pieced together, it was an open secret that the militants parade the creeks in the night with sophisticated arms. The training camps are dotted across the six states of the region but the largest concentration is in Bayelsa State. Mr. Adie told Sunday Vanguard that: "this is not a battle our elders can fight for us, so the youths have decided to do the battle by themselves because we know that freedom is not gotten on a platter of gold".

Some of the trainees spoken to on the condition of anonymity said they were in camp to train and secure freedom for their people. "I left school to fight to liberate my people because it is stated in the Bible that the kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent taketh it by force. We are ready to fight for what is rightly given to us by God and to fight the government to standstill. There is no going back", one of them said.

In the co-ordinator’s words: "The time of communiqués and dialogue is over, we want to speak the language that the Federal Government understands, hence we decided to marshal ourselves and get what we want by force. After all, sharia people woke up from sleep one day, dreamt up sharia, introduced it and nothing happened. It is really a shame that our so-called governors, because of their loyalty to the PDP, do not want to take the bull by the horns. What stops them from declaring a Republic of South-South or getting resource control by force like sharia people did."

Pre-declaration meeting: The national coordinator of Warri-based Human Rights Defenders Organization of Nigeria (HURDON), Mr. Casley Omon-Irabor, who is eyeing the governorship seat in his home state, Edo in 2007 confirmed to Sunday Vanguard, that "it is not a hidden fact that the Niger Delta has an army ready for war and judges, doctors, name them are ready to fight the war".

Niger Delta leaders

An insider said that a select group of Niger Delta leaders met shortly after the abrupt end of the confab where a principal officer of the confab from the South-South confessed that he had realized why elder statesman, Chief Anthony Enahoro, refused the overtures to him to be part of the conference and preside over it. The meeting, which reviewed the outcome of the conference, resolved that it was not likely that South-South could get justice if it remained as part of Nigeria.

A meeting of the ethnic nationalities in the region, presided over by an Ijaw royal father was held thereafter where it was agreed that the elders should stay at the background while the youths go to the battle front.

Isaac Boro and Ken Saro-Wiwa spirit: Investigations showed that members of the movement are fired up by the same sprit that led Ijaw activist, the late Isaac Adaka Boro and late Ken Saro-Wiwa, an Ogoni-born environmental activist who was hung by the military regime of General Sani Abacha. Some portraits of Isaac Boro were hung at strategic places in the camp.

A restless young Ijaw undergraduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Boro pulled together a rag-tag military of 159 youths under the flag of first Niger Delta Volunteer Service and on February 23, 1966, started operations with his men in the creeks of the region against the rest of the country. His mission to unshackle "Ijaw" land by force, however, buckled after 12 days following the superior pyrotechnics of federal troops.

That was the end of the first dream of a Niger Delta Republic, Boro and two of his lieutenants: Samuel Owonaro and Nottingham Dick, were tried for treason in late March 1966. They were found guilty and sentenced to death June 21, 1966 but were later pardoned by the then head of state, General Yakubu Gowon in August 1967.

The trio joined the federal troops to liberate parts of Rivers State forcibly occupied by Biafran troops and on April 20, 1968, Boro died in active service, "an undying hero and martyr in the hearts and minds of angry Ijaw youths decades after", according to professor emeritus and former vice chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Tekena Tamuno.

Nothing matters anymore: Delta State coordinator of the movement and national assistant secretary of the Ijaw National Congress, Prekelegha, told Sunday Vanguard that he was not dissuaded in any way that both Boro and Saro-Wiwa were killed in the struggle, adding that "it does not matter if I die in the struggle, what matters is that the people of the Niger Delta realize their dream of a Republic of Niger Delta.

He said that Niger Delta was not part of the Nigerian treaty and was not discovered by Lord Lugard. "We have been existing before Lord Lugard came, he did not discover us, we discovered him when he came. If America is looking for terrorists, they should come to Nigeria and see the leaders who are terrorizing the people of the South-South as well as the multi-national oil companies", he added.

Adie maintained:"We want to start from where Isaac Boro stopped in a sophisticated way. We have trained terrorists who will do the job and some serving soldiers are ready to fight on our side". Reminded of the difficulty Boro encountered with his rag-tag army, he said "we have trained enough boys who are ready to take over our resources by force and we want to take it away in President Olusegun Obasanjo’s time because he is the greatest enemy of the Niger Delta".

Deputy national coordinator, Evah and youth president of the movement, Ewerode, also confirmed to Sunday Vanguard during the visit that fighters were being trained in the creeks, saying that "the phase we are now is the first phase, which is consultation, sensitization and mobilization." According to them: "Leaders like Chief Edwin Clark and others have done their best but the youths are no longer ready for fruitless negotiations, for in South-Africa, Desmond Tutu and his group battled apartheid before they got freedom, we also have to battle the enemies of resource control before we can get our own freedom."

More than 6,000 persons already trained: Though, a source hinted that no fewer than 10 million fighters were ready to fight any time a war was declared for the Republic of Niger Delta, Adie informed that 6,000 persons from the Niger Delta had already received military training while more were being trained in the base camps. According to him: "the training takes up to a year or more". It was also learnt that the former military men that enlisted with the movement were only being re-trained as they were already familiar with weapons handling.

Visitors barred from training camp: He told this reporter that no visitor is allowed to the training camps and that the trainees get their food supply from outside under the supervision of the logistics commander. It was gathered that the trainees are not allowed to go home for either Christmas, Easter or New Year celebrations. A trainee, Douglas, said: "I was told before I was enlisted that I cannot go home or leave the camp until I graduate". It was learnt that each of the trainees allegedly swore to an oath of secrecy before training commenced. Admission into the training school is voluntary.

Source of arms and ammunition: This was a no-go-area during the interview but dark-complexioned Perekelegha who walks with a swagger and claimed to be the founder of Meinbutu, an Ijaw word for justice, said: "We get our weapons from the space world through the assistance of Isaac Adaka-Boro and Ken Saro-Wiwa who provide funds for us".

No tie with Asari-Dokubo, MASSOB: Sunday Vanguard sought to know from Adie the link between Asari-Dokubo led NDPVF and Uwazurike’s MASSOB on one side and the movement. He said there was none as "Asari-Dokubo and Uwazurike are on their own and we are on our own". Dokubo is the leader of a latter-day militant group in the region whose unique ideology, patterned after that of Isaac Boro, could not be wished aside in the struggle for freedom by the Niger Deltans.

Erroneously mistaken as an illegal bunkerer and a criminal, he surged into national prominence locally, nationally and internationally, in the last few months, when he threatened with his group that the region would take over its resources.

His activities caused a swirl worldwide in the international oil market and President Obasanjo was forced to meet with him. His group was said to be a creation of some politicians in Rivers State but Dokubo told Sunday Vanguard that "I am a freedom fighter who wants freedom for my people, the people of Niger Delta and I have not hidden my plan that I want the Niger Delta people to secede from Nigeria".

What does SSLM want?

What the South-South Liberation Movement is saying is not different from the case made for the geo-political zone by its delegates to the confab. The only divergence is that it wants to take by force what the associates believe belong to the region. The movement’s letter to the United Nations is a dossier on alleged constitutional breaches by the Federal Government; neglect of the region; causes of youth restiveness in the zone; derivation and resource control struggle; looming cancer epidemic due to oil exploration and prayers for deliverance from the many evils distressing the region."
