Folks what do you think? Is this a wise idea?

Let every Nigerian carry gun —Ogbemudia

VENCENT EGUNYANGA, Abuja

FORMER Governor of defunct Bendel State, Brig-Gen. Samuel Ogbemudia (rtd) has called for a legal provision to make every Nigerian carry a gun.

Speaking during debate at the ongoing National Political Reform Conference, (NPRC), Gen. Ogbemudia said that those who want to carry guns should be allowed to do so if they have the required licence.

He said the need for guns is to check incessant attacks by armed robbers in the country.

Ogbemudia, who also called for 50 per cent derivation for oil producing areas, regretted that the lopsided fund allocation heavily favourable to the centre was responsible for the death of palm oil industry in the old east, groundnut, in the defunct North cocoa in the West.

He called for the return of what he called the good old days and kicked against banning retired generals from elective positions describing such as undermocratic.© 2005 @ Champion Newspapers Limited (All Right Reserved).

Yessssssssssssssssss!!! In Texas, Florida, Arizona and some other states people are allowed by the law to be fully armed and I don't see any abuse of it yet after these many years. So, I don't see why a responsible homeowners should be denied this right to defend their homestead while in the same comical country, society rejects in connivance with the military and police boys terrorize the citizens. During the years I made the mistake to relocate to that awusa nation, I protected self as I know how (Benelli, HK - Heckler & Koch etc. There's no damage from letting the oppressed citizens legally bear arms, something that is overdue.

I total agree with this fellow on this issues. Especially at home - this will mean that people are able to defend the family from criminals.

What the man is proposing is clear bro, for the government to allow those willing, able and responsible to carry arms for self defense. It is not by any stretch of the imagination "stupid" moreover, there's nowhere around the globe the task of buying firearms for the citizenry has been undertaken by any government. So, is nigeria going to be different?

That wasn't a political plan or policy, just the vomit of a xxx-up nigerian retired soldier boy.
The fat ugly nigerian yoruba moron defiling Abuja with his presence is not THAT stupid to legalize the usage of weapons for the illiterate nigerian masses.

Alchemist

Sincere Government can't provide adequate security don't think it might wise to try this. At least armed robbers will not be as bold as they have been. Because the own of the house might have a fighting chance with a gun.

It is very evident that anybody who desires can purchase a gun in Nigeria. If Obasanjo refuses to comply with the decision of a court of Justice, who is he to tell people not to protect themselves?

Of course those election riggers won't openly tell people to carry guns so that the former would oppress the later. But everybody should use their senses.

It is just like the U. S. telling Iran not to develop nuclear weapons for fear of attacking others. Yet Iran has never attacked anybody in the past and the U. S. which has a track record of aggression is armed to the teeth.

Remember the Nigeria of the 1970's where thieves were publicly burned alive and beaten to death?
What happened to the "good ol'days"? (sarcasm intended)

Ofcourse Alchemist will ever be scared to death of an Igbo man or woman armed with a gun, and be it a self made one or childrens toy.
