My Late Grand Father once told me this story many years ago and I veryly believe him:

In africa there are 2 types of edible crab species; the Black crabs, and the Red crabs.
Now when you catch 10 black crabs and 10 red crabs and put them all in the same basket, you will find after a short while that out of the 10 red crabs at least 3 or 4 would have escaped the basket and made considerable progress in their bid for freedom.
In the same space of time, none of the black crabs would have been able to leave the basket, all 10 will remain inside.
This is because while the red crabs climb each others back and form chains so that 3 or 4 of them might escape, the black crabs spend their time by pulling down any black crab that has managed to climb the brothers back.

My Grandfather told us that we must continue to strive to be like the red crab, that is why our family has been prosperous and successfull over the ages.

Igbo Brothers and Sisters really need to emulate the unity of the red crab and shun the anti social behaviour of the black crab to prosper. This is how it was in the ancient days.
Let us teach our children this part of our identity.
