From the get go, this is how I saw this Philip brouhaha, what he should be doing instead. As I watched a documentary on Mr. Evel Knievel, the daredevil bike rider on History channel in the early evening of yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice his humbleness despite his accomplishments in the stunt arena. This was how he corrected or rather set his record that was over inflated by the press straight, something a typical nigerian would’ve ran away with as subject of this thread did. When reporters tried to build him beyond the super human level, beyond reach by stating that the man jumped the Grand Cayon and in another instance wrote that he jumped 100 buses, he took no time to hold a press conference to denounce the positive press report that was nevertheless padded. I jumped the Snake River not the Grand Cayon, said he; I jumped 52 buses and not 100, he said again. That it was a stretch for them to have said all those good things about him because he never claimed to be what they tried to make him to be, SUPER HUMAN. And that no human could do the things that the press ascribed to him. Now, contrast this with atypical nigerian/Philip who would run with this wrong information that was a product of deceit and when challenged would turn around to cite the same media/CNN report that created this error to begin with. Adults need not be constantly reminded that understatement is super classier than stretching it and here is where Mazi Emeagwali became his own victim. I can’t end this note without a mention of those with personal relationship with this brother who did not do him a lot good by not letting him see how his misjudgment created room for all comers to chide him. Even those that would struggle with an answer when asked what ten percent of nothing is jumped in to say one thing or another all because Philip invited it, still, the buck rest at Philip’s desk.
