What sort of democracy arrests the lawyer for a detainee? Now that Barrister Uche Okwukwu has been arrested by the lawless Abuja regime merely because he went to represent his client, Dokubo Asari, it is time to bring down the regime of the Yoruba warlord named Obasanjo. See CRIDO Law release.

This sort of thing can only happen in a country where the vast majority of the citizenry are either unaware, insouciant, feel powerless to intervene, or cowards.

Question is: now this has happened, WHAT ARE NIGERIANS GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Some people will complain, but that's it.

As long as the powers that be can get away with such actions with impunity, no change in behaviour should be expected.

Nigeria is a police state. Citizens are constantly being monitored, quizzed and harrassed. The treasury of the nation and states have been looted with impunity.

There has been many probes and probes but nobody and I say again, nobody has been convicted under Obansanjo's six years rule.

There is no legal basis of arresting a law abiding lawyer trying to discharge his lawful responsibilities to a client.

"Which kind country be that sef."

All:

Uche Okwukwu has since been released. I suspect the Nigerians came to their senses about the consequences of unjustifiably arresting the lawyer of a detainee.

In real democracies, each citizen has the right and the duty to be vigilant in keeping the state from infringing upon the liberties of the individual, thereby guarding against governments over-stepping their bounds granted them by the governed. The citizenry of such nations are not legally bound to obey laws and edicts that are not based on public sufferance, but rather are unconstitutional in nature and in execution. It is the duty of citizens to resist such extra-legal machinations of governments so that their liberties may remain intact for themselves and their posterity. Anything less is an abdication of the citizens' right to live free, and a green light for tyranny and despotism, the kind that obtains in Nigeria today.

Any true democracy is based on the rule of the people(the majority of course) and it is unlikely that an intelligent citizenry will not reserve to itself the right to bear arms, even against its own government, if it engages in illegal and/or unconstitutional behavior. Every citizen's home in a real democracy should be an arsenal of weaponry, always kept in readiness to defend the liberty of the people against the brazen trampling upon their rights by the excesses of government.

In the United States, there is a Bill of Rights as part of the Constitution. One of these rights is the Right to Bear Arms. Americans would long ago have lost many, if not all, of their freedoms if it were not for this right. Even today government is still trying to void this basic right of Americans by trying to instill fear into the ignorant, warning them of the millions of crazy people with guns and the need to have gun control; but it will never succeed, because this is the only real guarrantee of freedoms, the right to defend our liberties, if need be, house by house, neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city, state by state. When I was growing up, every home had some sort of firearms, whether rifles, shotguns or hand guns; and all was quite peaceful. This is also the case today in most of America. It is only a fool who gives away all the protection of his rights to government, and trusts it to forever guard them. It is at that point that elected government is no longer the servant of the people, but rather their master. When this equation is upset, America, free America, will be finished.

Therefore, it is not surprising that Nigerians feel powerless for the most part in response to the tyranny of its fraudulently elected government. Unless I am quite mistaken, the idea of each citizen bearing arms privately in defense of liberty, if need be, is not a part of the so-called constitution. The mass of the people appear not to have a culture of such arms bearing and arms keeping. Such a state of affairs only invites the yoke of slavery and acquiesces to every indignity. Free peoples must learn to take the responsibility for their own freedoms, and be prepared to die for them if neccessary, unless of course they prefer to be slaves.

The constitution of the Republic of Nigeria is a document that rather than guarranteeing the rights of the people, guarrantees the rights of the president and governors, the most glaring being the right of immunity from prosecution. What a ridiculous concept. If leaders cannot be held accountable, what, pray tell, will stop them from carrying out illegal and unconstitutional acts against the citizenry; and if the citizenry does not or cannot bear arms, are they not then at the mercy of these scoundrels and their state security apparatus. In real terms this so-called constitution of Nigeria is no more than a license to steal and oppress without any recourse or redress for the people. It is a pitiable state of affairs, and well-known to the West, which for the moment looks the other way; but those affected of neccessity must stare the monstrousity in the face. And yet, don't look to see fire and brimstone rained down from heaven upon these churls and their corrupt organization, but rather let us look to ourselves for the answer. Every man will find it in his own hand.

What you are about to read is typical of the cowards that mislead their people into believing they're top-guns with their cheap talk. All I've heard and seen from this Dokubo chap is all noise and smoke, no action. How is it that he only realized for the need to stop action after his arrest? What nonsense is this, instead of reiterating to his followers to not let go with or without him, he's now whimpering like you never believe. What happened to courage in the face of adversity?

quote:
Group tackles Dokubo

Also yesterday, a coalition of militant youths groups by the name Coalition for Militant Action in the Niger Delta (COMA) rejected Alhaji Dokubo Asari’s order to his group, the NDPVF, to “suspend action,” saying the decision was unacceptable.

In a statement, COMA said it rejected the decision and pronouncement by the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force to stay off militant action.

“This decision is unwelcome, despicable and totally disagreeable. The NDPVF has to realise that the government of the Nigerian state is not a government that listens. This assertion is also in agreement with the recent comments made by Vice President Atiku Abubakar. It is, therefore, unthinkable to believe that the same government can be reasoned with. The Coalition For Militant Action has, therefore, resolved to take full control of soon-to-be deployed military attack against interests and agents of the Nigerian state.”

MeBiafran,

Apparently Obasanjo is not as dumb as he looks. He courted Dokubo Asari with that presidential jet ride and high-profile meeting just to size him up and see if he could be bought. When Obasanjo realized Dokubo had a price, he stopped worrying about him, because people who can be bought are cowards, mostly interested in their own advantage and not necessarily that of those they purport to lead. Such have a soft under-belly of wished-for comfort. Now that Dokubo is cooling his heels in jail, he's scrambling to save his own skin. He's like the rat who thought he could make a deal with the snake, who, when he thought all was agreed, turned his back to go home but later woke up in the snake's belly.

Alamieyeseigha's medical trip: The truth

SIR: Our attention has been drawn to widespread insinuations in the media that His Excellency, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, JP, Ph.D., Governor of Bayelsa State, had gone abroad to have a cosmetic "tummy tuck" surgery performed on him. Those who hold this view seem to believe that the governor merely went abroad for a vain non-medical surgical intervention.

We wish to point out that no one who knows the governor, a committed and serious-minded leader, would believe such arrant nonsense. The truth is that the governor, due to age and a natural tendency, had become somewhat overweight. In the past, the governor, an ardent swimmer, has used that and other exercises, to manage his weight.

In the past six years, however, the pressure of office has impacted on His Excellency's ability to exercise regularly. The situation was such that his heart came under severe pressure due to his weight problems. There was also a growing blood circulation problem that was threatening to get out of hand. There were two main options. Either exercise till the excess weight is gone or do a surgical intervention, to free his heart of the pressure.

The reality of time constraint favoured the surgical option, and this inexorably led to the surgery in Germany.

We believe that it is cruel in the utmost, to insinuate that the governor was pursuing vanity, when indeed he was on a mission to save his own life. Let those who rejoice at the adversity of others remember God Almighty!

Preye Wariowe,
Ag. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Bayelsa State,
Yenagoa

Despite my tenderness towards the agitation for a better resource control for these folks and every other region, this fella’s face does not show a man that is full of valor. I’ve always been skeptical of those that engage in too much talky-talky, who waffle when it comes to walking the walk. I had expected Mr. Dokubo to be defiant, to put up a struggle by continuing to call for what he believes in till the end. The sudden expression of fear as his face betrayed goes to highlight the unseriousness of his noise. His Ogoni counterpart, Mr Ledum Mitee probably denied ever harboring any desire to control their destiny hence his swift release after a brief “detention.” ” MOSOP leader, Ledun Mitee arrested, released” screams the headlines! To the stupid one-nigerianists, I ask you if what’s happening is your idea of democracy, do you support the tyranny of this Yoruba warlord and if nay, what are you doing about it other than bouncing on the Biafra agenda as if Biafra is responsible for obasanjo’s follies? In your hopeless nigeria, an expression of desire gets one locked up yet these hintless follow-follow miss the point? Back in the early eighties when John Hinkley shot Ronald Reagan, one fella had wished that the President died from that encounter, a public utterance that quickly drew the attention of the FBI who invited him for questioning and eventual dismissal by a highly learned Judge of the primitive charges preferred against him. The Judge stated the defendant’s inherent (landmark) rights to express a desire without actually carrying out the wishes. It should shock every reasonable mind to know that there are wicked fools out there who spend an unimaginable amount of time telling us about Biafra this and that yet refused to tell the juntas ruling them into oblivion how not to truncate their democracy, so-called. Tell their government how not to ruin lives due to their wicked avaricious governance. Take their whine to their henchman to inform him how not to continue the pillage of their country is what is required of them at the minimum. Yes, they should write about those things that are responsible for their continued forced exile without bothering some of us who care much less about some quasi dodo or akara industry back in some obscure village. A two-man akara factory can hardly be something to write home about if you ask me. So, cut the noise already! Follow me, you, yes you delusional one-nigerianists?
