In an affidavit sworn to in London, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN) said:
“I am the Honourable Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. By virtue of section 150(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (hereinafter referred to as the Constitution), I am the Chief Law Officer of the Nigerian Federation and a Minister of the Government of the Federation. By virtue of section 174 of the said constitution I have the power to institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court of law in Nigeria, other than a court martial, in respect of any offence created under any act of the National Assembly. “To take over and continue any such criminal proceedings that may have been instituted by any other authority or power. To discontinue at any stage before judgment is delivered any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by him or any other authority or person"......
“Further to my statement dated the 3rd November 2005, I would like to add that I have travelled to the United Kingdom and arrived on the 2nd November 2005. I have travelled here specifically to deal with the current case concerning Chief D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha".
“As an appointed officer of the Nigerian government, I would like to state that the government of Nigeria confirms that it is not imperative for the governor to return to Nigeria and we would wish for him to remain in the United Kingdom and stand trial. It is far more important for the governor to remain here and stand trial than return to Nigeria." -------------------------------------------------
That was the so-called AG of Nigeria appearing at a magistrate court in London just to further reveal the hand of the federal government in the Alamieyeseigha saga. It is rather ironic that the same OBJ that initially proclaimed that they (FGN) had nothing to do with Alamieyeseigha's travails now thought it wise and very pertinent to send his Attorney General to London to play every card there is just to block Alamieyeseigha's return to Nigeria, even if this amounts to prostrating himself before a magistrate (something Lord Goldsmith will never do)
Mr. Obasanjo, why not go by your own words and let the British law take its course. Shouldn't it be down to the judge in London to either grant Alamieyeseigha leave to return to Nigeria, or to remain in the UK pending the outcome of the case against him? Why is Obasanjo making very obvious even to the ignorant what we have always known that there is the voice of Jacob behind what appears to be Esau's hand?
Any little belief in my mind that this could possibly be a fight against corruption in Nigeria has evaporated with the way the Nigerian Government have behaved since the arrest of Alamieyeseigha. This is now tilting more towards a vendetta on those dissenting voices who dared to ask questions as to how Sege and his God-fathers are running Nigeria while at the same time perpetually ruining a certain section of the geo-polity, while others benefit.
Rather than silence these voices crying out for a better treatment within the geo-polity, OBJ's diabolic actions will only push the issue to the level of people asking and actually fighting for self determination, freedom and independence from the ill-conceived geo-polity of Nigeria. It is getting very close to that now!

My brother Mankelv, do not kill me oooo, but I did not hear you say anything about the thieving governor with super BOGUS ph.d, alamieyeseigha. Why? People may call what obasanjo and his attorney sergeant are doing vendetta but I see it as a positive one even as I concede that their approach to this crook governor's trial appears to be silly. The AG's appearance was not that necessary since the Magistrate in charge of this case is well versed with British law and if the law calls for his release that’s what he gonna do. This is where the trip to London by obasabjo’s henchman to make noise turns pitiable.

Why should we worry about King Kong + Alam...? They are both as bad as each other biko. They should go ahead + ruin each other for all I care. I wouldn't shed a single tear or lose a single wink of sleep. Next time, Alam... will think twice about leaving his impoverished people + making his way all the way to Europe with the intention of panel beating his body. Rubbish!

I concur with Igboblood. A time will come after OBJ is no longer in power, when another, like the AG, will come to testify against him, may be this same AG.

This is not about the Judge's knowledge of the law but it is about trying to trust that the Governor would come back to Britain if allowed to return to Nigeria. We know ourselves. So, the immediate intervention of Obj is not out of place in my own book.
Call it personal vendatta or anything. In this case, it is the right thing to do. I support Obj this time to teach this man a lesson. I personally would want this man convicted and be made to spend some time in jail. One day, two days or 7 days in jail as a convicted felon will be enough for the records and his legacy.

Rick, I agree though more time is better. Seven days won't pacify my anger so let's say fifteen to life with HARD labor. This is for all: obj, ministers, governors, legislators, all.
