From east to wast, north to south, and even in the western world, most especially in the good old U.S.A., there's one Nigerian politician who has stolen the limelight from all the cameleons who parade themselves as "democrates" in Nigeria; that man is none other than the indomitable but amiable Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State.

As we approach 2007, and as Orji Kalu's expoits start sinking in on most Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora who earlier dismised his presidential campaign as a "non starter," I will as usual ignore the madning crowd on BNW and continue to make sure that the world get to know Orji Kalu's POSITIVE contributions to Nigeria's socio-political world. If for nothing, at least to to strike a balance between hearsay and FACTS.

His critics and political enemies have been as merciless in "exposing" the Abia governor, as he, himself has been on them. And on Orji Kalu's now CONFIRMED American support, as the facts are begining to emerge, we are also made to know that Orji Kalu's support base is not onyl among the Igbo. Kalu’s presidency and the American connection

Sunny Igboanugo, Lagos

If the history of the current political experiment in Nigeria were written, without a mention of Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, it would certainly be an account that would likely be impugned on different fronts by both past and emerging events.

It doesn’t matter on which side of the assessor’s record the youthful governor might be but it has become clear, even to a passive observer that Kalu has played more than his fair share of the roles that his office envisages. He has thus taken more than a large portion of a stake in the limelight than any of his contemporaries, more as a result of the situation he created himself than just managing the circumstances he finds himself.

His critics and political enemies have been as merciless in “exposing” the Abia governor, as he, himself has been on them. But though the governor appears not to have won all his fights, he seems to have managed to stay a step ahead of his adversaries by his uncanny ways of responding to issues, mostly through a combination of what some people see as native intelligence and unbridled boldness to dare even the most formidable of forces, irrespective of the dangers.

This perhaps seems to have given him more edge on the balance between people’s acceptance or otherwise of his style of politics.
Nothing, actually, has not been said about the governor in the attempt to destroy his image. For instance, at the beginning of his tenure, the issues of his educational background was the subject of discourse. Many people today would still not have forgotten the controversy raised by the claim that the governor actually did not sit for his secondary school examinations and that he did not complete his degree programme at

University of Maiduguri. Today, even if the allegations had any substances, they would have been vitiated by the fact that Kalu not only went back to school, but ensured that he did so without keeping Nigerians guessing about it, as he, in his usual whimsical manner made sure that photographs of him taking his examinations at the Abia State University, were published in Nigerian dailiesÏ.

He has thus taken more than a large portion of a stake in the limelight than any of his contemporaries, more as a result of the situation he created himself than just managing the circumstances he finds himself, in Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, visit the man that brings ant-infested faggots.

His critics and political enemies have been as merciless in “exposing” the Abia governor, as he, himself been on them. But though the governor appears not to have won all his fifered to the rest of Nigerians for the civil war, which saw his people in war trenches for more than three years in the nation’s history. For this, he was not only buffeted with criticisms from many quarters in Igbo land, but even some of his ardent admirers, who may have been angered since that development may still be harbouring the feeling till date. The issue of his failed bid to remove his first-term deputy, Dr. Eyinnaya Abaribe, which he repeated with the current one, Chief Chima Nwafor, over issues that many have interpreted as personal, may have also given him out as not the democrat that he claims to be. Just like other governors, Kalu has also been accused of engaging in corrupt practices. Recently, when the governor came out with another bombshell, in which he challenged Obasanjo over his campaign on corruption, alleging that the President was as corrupt as those he was chasing, some politicians came out from his home front with scatting details of what they claimed was the monumental fraud he was perpetrating against his state.

Kalu, however seems to have perfected a strategy for staying ahead of his detractors in the matrix of public affairs, in his ability to pull surprises on many people and perhaps divert attention from such perceived personal failings, thus turning disadvantage to advantage. This trend perhaps, could be captured by his recent exploit of reconciling the two Igbo leaders and thereafter their Northern counterparts of Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Muhammadu Buhari. This feat, coming at a time, when a lot of people believe that the governor has lost out at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after the drama of the re-registration of members, appears not only a credible response to his perceived travails at the party, but one that could have given him an edge to assume an enviable status in the nation’s polity. In fact, many believe that the Abia governor is indeed better off out of the PDP and providing the nation with the credible opposition and a rallying point they needed against a despotic government, that Obasanjo’s presidency seems to be delivering at the moment.

More than this, unfolding events suggests that Kalu’s presidential aspiration appears to have received a jolt in the arm and thus, assumed a new dimension. Many of those who may have been seeing him as not serious, or as holding brief for someone else, could be forced by these events to start looking at the issue differently. The permutations in some political circles is that the new alliance between Babangida, Buhari and Kalu is to ensure that whichever way the presidential pendulum swings in 2007 between the North and South, on account of current agitation by both, those in the coalition would earn the support of the other.

A fortnight ago, the governor’s ambition got a further boost, with the news of his name featuring prominently among those the United States of America reportedly shortlisted, as their choice for the presidency in 2007. He not only made the list, but was placed in the report, citing US State Department, as saying that they had investigated and cleared each of the person, as topping the chart.
The US, which defended its action on the grounds that it had remained an ally of the country and assisted it in various ways, including the fight against corruption reportedly centred their action on the need to show Obasanjo’s supporters claiming that there were no credible people to take over from president, other such Nigerians. “This list is our humble contribution to the search for the next leadership of a vital ally like Nigeria”, an official of the US State Department was quoted as saying.

In fact, it was reported that the tax of reconciling the duo of Buhari and Babangida was actually taken by Kalu at the instance of the American government and other powerful western forces desirous of a new government in Nigeria through a credible election in 2007. Kalu has however denied this much, even as he remained silent on the story of his American connection.

Though Obasanjo’s son, Gbenga equally claimed in the controversial interview he reportedly granted a national magazine, that the same America was actually pressurising his father to remain in office, the US government is said to be unhappy with the third term agenda, as it would offend its current policy on governments in Africa. The speed with which it debunked the claim by the President’s first son, while remaining silent on that of its link with Kalu, remains instructive to keen observers.

Kalu, according to sources had actually made inroads in the US because of his extensive business link with the country, which spans several years back and the awesome underground campaign mounted by a team of Nigerians of all ethnic groups in the country, which he has been able to put together in the last few years. This group, comprising of professionals in various fields is said to have used their tentacles to mount an extensive lobby among US groups and top individuals in government to give the governor their backing. Even the Nigerian media has been awash with the activities of this group through continuous articles and presentations. At least on three occasions toward the last quarter of last year, the group hosted the governor in various cities within the US to canvass the support for him. But beyond these, the Abia governor is said to have an enduring relationship with former President of America George Bush (Snr), father of the incumbent, George W. Bush, a relationship that is said to have spanned several years.
This outsides support from the only remaining super power in the world, may have perhaps informed the boldness with which Kalu undertakes his political engagements and public comments, particularly against powerful government officials. Observers say that any person, especially a government official that would be bold enough to take no less a person than the President, who has cow everybody, including governors from other parties and add to such a burden another formidable source like the President’s alter ego, Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), must have something going for him. “It will take more than mere boldness for any Nigerian to stand up to Obasanjo tell him that ‘you are corrupt’. There is a saying that the bird dancing in the street has something drumming for it in the bush. That is the case with Kalu. Some governors have their own godfather in Nigeria, he has a bigger godfather outside the country. That is why he is the only one who can do what he is doing”, an informed observer told Daily Independent, last week.

Yet the American government seems not oblivious of the enormous task they may face in their choice, if the latest report is to be believed. They acknowledged in the report, as many Nigerians equally do, the perceived danger on the road for the governor. “Our sources indicate that there may be serious troubles for the governor in the coming months as he is currently under security watch by government agents”, the State Department official, who dismissed the claim of the support translating to meddling into the internal affairs of the country, reportedly said.
Kalu himself, appears equally conscious of the same problem. He acknowledged this much during his Christmas broadcast to the people, the counted his losses, saying that not only had he been thoroughly harassed politically, his businesses had suffered equally as a result of his doggedness to stand on the side of the people.

Yet, he appears not only determined in the project, but equally optimistic about the outcome. Kalu had told his audience at his Igbere country home in Bende Council area of Abia State, that shortly after the conferring of chieftancy titles on the duo of Buhari and Babangida, to cap their reconciliation, that he would not only scale through the hurdle of winning the presidency, but he would be escorted to Aso Rock Villa by the two former Heads of State. “I don’t want to be subdued to the challenges of retired General Buhari because of his past experiences. I’m one man who has learnt not to quarrel with my bosses. I don’t quarrel with former military President Ibrahim Babangida neither do I quarrel with Buhari, but I want to assure them (Buhari and Babangida) that I will behave like the tortoise who travels slowly but carefully and at the end produce good result.

“Therefore I shall be calculative and then show them action and I will definitely get to that destination. Even though I agree that General Buhari is an honest and straight forward person whom I respect very well, I shall assure him that I’ll take that one from him”, he was quoted as saying.
It remains to be seen how far Kalu would go in making true his words. But, at the moment many Nigerians seem to be comfortable in relying on his boldness to reflect the other side of the Nigerian politics, which his colleagues seem to also know, but are either too afraid or too compromised to speak about. If at the end of the day, he could only manage to work out a formula for presenting a formidable opposition to check the excesses of President Obasanjo, which many Nigerians seem to be yearning for at the moment, his name may as well be etched in the golden book of history, in the portion reserved for great men. That appears more important now for a lot of the people, than who emerges the president.
--------------------------------------

I couldn't have it more indepth than Mr. Igbo anugo did above.

I will be back from time to time to present commentaries by fair and informed Nigerians and non Nigerians alike on the INDOMITABLE Governor Orji Kalu. More so as they all seem to be confirming everything I have writen over the years of Orji Kalu and his BROAD political views and winning style.

After laying seige in London in coniviance with the equally CORRUPT London Metropolitan Police to no avail, Obasanjo and his witchhunt agency, aka, 'Conduct tribunal' has discovered to their chargrin that Orji Kalu is not one to be served a USELESS "summon" and be expected to honour same.

And to make it more laughable, even the Obasanjo appointed head of the KANGAROO court could even summon the courage to make Orji Kalu appear before it at its next sitting.

Quote:
--------------------------------------
"However, the case against the governor could not go on as Thompson Olatigbe, counsel to the bureau, objected to Kalu's absence in court and urged the tribunal to order his physical appearance at the next sitting in Kaduna.
But the three-man panel, led by Justice Basir Sambo, glossed over Olatigbe's request for an order compelling the governor to appear before it.
--------------------.............

Only a fool would give Obasanjo's Kangaroo court the legitimasy it lacks.

Why all these cowardly tactics from Abuja one would ask? Why cant Obasanjo just invade Abia State as he did in Bayelsa State and lately in Oyo State or better still pay the Abia State legisslators to get Orji Kalu "impeached" as he does with any sitting Governor that does not buy his sit-tight gamble.

Unfortunately for Obasanjo, unlike in the other afore-mentioned States where the President's men could buy who they could to plant their lacky, Orji Kalu on the other hand has the total and unwavering support of both the good people of Abia State and the honorable men and women of the Abia State legislators.

Orji Kalu the WINNER and master strategist has beaten Obasanjo and co to their game!

Conduct tribunal can't try me, Kalu insists

From Lemmy Ughegbe, Abuja

ABIA State Governor, Orji Kalu, yesterday told the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja that it lacked the constitutional powers to try him over alleged non-declaration of assets and operation of foreign bank accounts, contrary to the Code of Conduct for public office holders.

The Code of Conduct Bureau had issued a summon to Kalu to come before the tribunal and defend the alleged offence.
But in a preliminary objection to the summons filed by Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Kalu contended that the summons issued on him amounted to a clear breach of Section 308(1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution, which shields a serving governor from both civil and criminal prosecution.
He said going by the immunity he enjoyed under Section 308, the process of the issuance of the summons was in breach of the rules of the tribunal.
"The purported criminal summons or charge was never served on the applicant (Kalu) personally, as there is nothing on the record of the court to the contrary," Uzoukwu submitted.
According to the counsel, the governor's summons contravened an interim order, the restraining order of the Abia State High Court, Umuahia, in which the Attorney General of the Federation, the bureau and the tribunal were respondents.
However, the case against the governor could not go on as Thompson Olatigbe, counsel to the bureau, objected to Kalu's absence in court and urged the tribunal to order his physical appearance at the next sitting in Kaduna.
But the three-man panel, led by Justice Basir Sambo, glossed over Olatigbe's request for an order compelling the governor to appear before it.
Rather, it adjourned the case till February 15, 2006 when former Governor of Bayelsa State, Dieprieye Alamieyeseigha is expected to also appear before it.
Alamieyeseigha is standing trial on an 18-count charge of false declaration of assets and operation of foreign banks accounts.

Poor Alamco, he has been used as a sacrificial lamb. Good that the youths of the restive Niger Delta are begining to see what Nwa Aro saw when this pre-arranged arrest and trial started.

And if Obasanjo and his thugs from within and without Igboland thought that Governor Orji Kalu is one of those cowardly Igbos they easily intimidated and bullied into oblivion (as they did with Ekwueme, Okadigbo, etc.) then THEY ARE MISTAKEN.

No one can chase me from PDP, says Kalu

By Idris Ahmed, Special Correspondent, Kano
Abia State Governor Orji Kalu has refuted the speculation that he may not realise his presidential ambition in 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kalu declared in Kano on Tuesday that he would contest under the umbrella of PDP as "there is no power that can chase me out of the party".
The presidential aspirant made the declaration while speaking with newsmen after signing the condolence register at the Kano home of the former governor of old Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, whose wife, Sa'adatu, was murdered on Saturday by yet to be unidentified assailants.

"The party (PDP) is not the property of anybody and we would fight it out as the name of the game is the ability to move forward and we will do it in PDP. I will not leave PDP and I will contest the 2007 election under the party," Kalu boasted.

The Abia State governor said his ambition is to unify the country where everybody would be proud enough to say he is a Nigerian. "I want to practice democracy as it is being practiced in America where everybody will be saying I am a Nigerian, not a southerner or a northerner," he added.

He said he was ready to sacrifice and if need be, to take the position of the late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, and as such his kind of politics is unity in diversity with respect to different groups in the country, irrespective of their religions or traditions.
Kalu declared that in his presidential ticket, he has a 10-point agenda for the betterment of Nigeria and that security tops his list. Others, he added, are electricity, roads and agriculture.

Obasanjo and co have indeed met more than their match in the person of the INDOMITABLE Governor Orji Kalu of Abia State.
For once we have an Igboman who exhibits all the attributes of a true Igbo man that is lacking in Igbos of post-war Nigeria!
Words just cant explain how truly proud I am of this young man's brevity and courage.

All I can say to Orji Kalu as he takes on the Golias in Nigeria is this: KEEP UP THE JUST FIGHT BECAUSE NIGERIA IS NOT ANYONE'S PRIVATE PROPERTY AS THE OBASANJOS WANT US BELIEVE. BECAUSE WHETHER THE OBASANJOS LIKE IT OR NOT, TRUTH IS THAT ORJI KALU, HIS CHILDREN, AND HIS IGBO RACE IS AS NIGERIAN AS OBASANJO AND HIS RACE IS.
SO, THERE SHOULDN'T NOR WILL THERE BE ANY LET UP ON YOURS OR ANY OTHER NIGERIAN'S RIGHT TO EXERCISE YOUR GOD-GIVEN RIGHT TO GOVERN NIGERIA. For as I earlier said, IT IS NOT A PRIVILEGE TO VOTE OR BE VOTED FOR IN ONES COUNTRY OF BIRTH OR ORIGIN.

WE ARE SOLIDLY BEHIND YOU. AND SAY THE NAY-SAYERS WHAT THEY WANT, I, NWA ARO, FORSEE POSTERITY VINDICATING YOU. INFACT, YOURS IS INDEED A LAST-DITCH ATTEMPT TO SAVE NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS FROM THEMSELVES.

FOR THE RECORDS. And while at it, even Obasanjo's son, Gbenga, cannot resist Orji Kalu's MIDAS TOUCH and generosity.

Quote:
--------------------------
"Gbenga was in Kalu's entourage to commiserate with Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, whose wife was killed last week. Thereafter, Kalu and Gbenga visited other places, and arrived Kaduna where the governor declared he would give Obasanjo a run for his money, if he does remain in office beyond 2007...Those who know say that the relationship runs deeper. Gbenga, they say, stays in Kalu's house whenever he is in the United States. That is, the Maryland home of the governor, which was bought in 2003."
---------------------------------------

And Obasanjo want us to believe that Orji Kalu stole the money from which he bought same house his son, Gbenga, lays under when he visits the States. Wonders shall never end!

-----------------------------------------
What's Between Gbenga and Kalu?

Eziuche Ubani on Friday, 01.19.2006

Politics, in conventional wisdom should not approximate war, where enemies stand on opposite sides and kill each other. At least, ideally, Nigerians desire that their politics be stripped of any form of bitterness. They wish so, having been witnesses to killings and all sorts of spite which sometimes undermine the growth of democracy.
But that desire remains a forlorn wish. For if one would position the line of divisions in the current dispensation, you will easily see that Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, and President Olusegun Obasanjo are in two very bitter, but determined camps. In a manner of speaking, Kalu has always been opposed to Obasanjo, and when not opposing his politics in court, tackles him in sometimes very rude and asinine language. But the governor who many know, would if an opportunity arises, rush to the President to prostrate and seek forgiveness, takes his place as Obasanjo's critic and traducer very seriously, and in fact, in a manner that approxmates war.

People close to the President sometimes say he does feel pangs of anger at Kalu's very many broadsides. Which is why, for sometime, the President would not revert to the governor on most issues that concern the state.
Now, there is a curious twist to that situation. While Kalu would easily jump on Obasanjo, he enjoys a very chummy relationship with Gbenga, the President’s son, who recently savaged almost every major political player, especially Malam Nasir el-Rufai and Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Gbenga was in Kalu's entourage to commiserate with Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, whose wife was killed last week. Thereafter, Kalu and Gbenga visited other places, and arrived Kaduna where the governor declared he would give Obasanjo a run for his money, if he does remain in office beyond 2007.
Those who know say that the relationship runs deeper. Gbenga, they say, stays in Kalu's house whenever he is in the United States. That is, the Maryland home of the governor, which was bought in 2003.

Many wonder how Gbenga does this sort of intricate balancing. While he hates Atiku, and pillories him for being "greedy", he is best of friends with Kalu, who has a strong political relationship with Atiku. While he chides Governor Diepreye Alamieseyegha for being "stupid", he hobnobs with a perhaps more smarter Kalu who nonetheless, has issues that bother on breach of code of conduct.

So, decoding the relationship is somewhat difficult. While it is required that members of the President's family keep away from politics, Gbenga's association with Orji Kalu, raises a lot of questions. Are Obasanjo and Kalu playing games by creating the impression of disagreement, while they talk through informal channels like his son? If not, what does Gbenga's presence in Kalu's entourage mean? Is Gbenga so estranged from his father, that he is desperate to associate with his father’s opponents?
These questions may not mean much to others. But their answers mean so much to allies of the President in Abia.
---------------------------------

While all these were going on behind the scene, the Obasanjo Abuja-based bootlickers from Abia State like Ojo Maduekwe and co where making the uninformed believe that they have, or could be able to hand over Orji Kalu (the latter has by the way neutralized the Abuja-based crump pickers from Abia State geo-politics) to their paymaster, Obasanjo.

Quote:
"But their answers mean so much to allies of the President in Abia."

Right or left, there is no gain repeating the fact that the reality on the ground in Abia State today is that the socalled "allies of the President" from Abia State (Mr. Ugochukwu and co) who underestimated Orji Kalu's local and international economic and political reach have lost and will be put to shame as 2007 approaches.
My advice to them is this: You should immediately quit fighting Obasanjo's DIRTY WAR before its too late.
Because only God of creation could stop Orji Kalu's UNSTOPABLE Aso Rock-bound cruise train.

...The battle just began!

It is fair to say that Kanu has matched Obasanjo's thuggery stolen pound for stolen pound. Kanu was clearly vindicated after Obasanjo closed Slok airline only for us to find out there were far worse airlines in Nigeria.
What I don't understand however is why Kalu has allowed his state capital to fall apart. The roads in Aba even by Nigeria's banana republic standard are worse than bad.

I remember Gbenga also attended Marwa's 'declaration'. It is possible Gbenga is spying for his father. Never underestimate the ability of a dysfunctional family to defy established wisdom.

Obasanjo’s Son, Others Attend Marwa’s Rally
From Tokunbo Adedoja and Abel Orih Idoma in Yola, 05.08.2005

Sunday, May 8, 2005
President Olusegun Oba-sanjo's son, Gbenga, and Senator Jubril Aminu were among party members, political associates and supporters of the former Lagos State military administrator, Brig.-Gen. Muhammed Buba Marwa, who formally declared for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

advertisement

Marwa had defied the ban on political gathering impos-ed by the state government and a curious environmental sanitation exercise in the state to formally join the PDP.

But instead of the Ribadu Square, initially slated for the ceremony, the declaration took place in Marwa's residence in Yola.

His joining the PDP is widely believed to be the first step for the former military administrator and Chairman of Albarka Airline to enter the 2007 presidential race.

At the gathering, which also had in attendance PDP Deputy National Secretary, Chief E C Akpobi, Assistant National Auditor, Godwin Dabo Adzuana, as well as Chairman Senate Committee on States and Local Government, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Marwa said the event should ordinarily not have taken place in his compound but for the ban placed on political gathering by the state government.

While noting that he was impressed by the large turnout of people from all over the country and outside the shores of the nation, he said the action of the state government was “unfortunate for democracy, very saddening and a wrong way to use power.”

He told the mammoth crowd who gathered in his compound for over six hours under the scorching sun that Saturday marked a turning point for the Adamawa State people and the nation at large.

He said he did not know who was behind the action of the state government but what he was certain about was that he was not vying for the governorship of the state in 2007.

The state government had stated last Friday that Marwa's declaration would not hold for security reason.

Announcing the cancellation of the declaration at a press conference less than 24 hours to the event, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Boni Haruna, Alhaji Abdulrazak Namdas said it was part of the resolution reached between the state governor, Marwa, security chiefs and state chairman of the PDP.

Marwa said he had registered with the PDP in his Michika ward 2 in 2002 and was given membership card number 1796, that he had over the years been fulfilling his obligations to the party. He said that he only chose to make a formal declaration for the party because he believed that there were millions of members of other political parties and several other Nigerians without parties that would be willing to go to any political party that he belongs to.

“Ordinarily, we should not be holding this conference in my living room in Yola, but in Ribadu Square. But unfortunately, due to the ban of the government of the day in Adamawa state, we are forced, as law abiding citizens, not to flout the law, we had to come in to do this press briefing .

"It is certainly a most unfortunate thing for democracy and very saddening and a wrong way to use power”, he said.

Commenting on the power play in the state, Marwa said “ I have been a member of PDP for three years now. I registered back in 2002. Some people who did not know that I had been registered moved to seize, using their authority, all the registers in all the local government areas, so that I do not register , but unfortunately they came late, because after the register had been stamped by the state PDP, we photocopied the whole document.”

On the twists and turns of his declaration, Marwa said that he informed the national headquarters of the party about his decision to make his declaration public and that he was given the nod and also told to liaise with the state chapter which he did.

He added that the state chapter told him to start the declaration from his ward, a decision, which he said he also complied with.

Marwa said at a meeting with the state chairman and members of the state executive of the party, the May 7, date for public declaration was endorsed and that the state chairman of the party, Chief Joel Madaki, even addressed the press on the support of the party for the declaration.

Less than 24 hours after the press conference of the party in support of his declaration, he added that “to my surprise, the state government kicked against it”.

He said the Deputy National Chairman of the party (North), Alhaji Ibrahim Safana, wrote to the state to confirm the endorsement of the May 7 declaration date by the national headquarters, a directive which he said the state government reacted to with a ban on all political public gatherings in the state.

“I did meet with the governor yesterday (Friday) to appeal to his conscience and his sense of justice. We appealed to him that many people had arrived for the declaration. The meeting which was meant to be private had security chiefs there. Even at that, It was surprising to me that he said even with the new date, the rally would never be held in Yola, because I brought thugs from all over the country.

And that if the rally will be held, it will be in Michika so that if the thugs that I brought would kill people, it will be my people, as if those in Michika are not human beings.

"The funny thing is that we come from the same town”, Marwa said.

The former Lagos State military administator also told the gathering that the declaration was meant to be broadcast live by the National Television Authority (NTA) network service but expressed surprised that the Outside Broadcasting (OB) van of the station was disallowed entrance into his compound by the police.

“Why is anybody afraid of allowing what is happening here today to be seen across the country? I thought I should use this opportunity to give a little background to what has led us to this situation, why we are unable to hold this declaration itself at Ribadu Square, which was the original venue that we had decided to hold it.

"The bottom line is that if there was any intention to scuttle what we intend to do, which was to tell the public where we stood, then that attempt has failed, because the same public are outside. One million Nigerians across the country as you have seen are outside, 2000 buses that have traveled and cars are all here. You cannot pull the people down”, Marwa said.

In his remarks at the ocassion, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Aminu said “ I want to welcome the members of the National Working Committee to Yola, my constituency in Adamawa Central.

“You have come to witness a very great day in PDP and in Adamawa, which is accepting and witnessing the candidature of General Marwa, who is standing for the presidency of Nigeria. It is his birth right and there is no way he can be stopped.

“If it had not happened today, it would have been a shame for Adamawa, whereby people who cannot stand competition, people who pretend to be democrats but are not democrats, people who are tyrants, people who are sitting on Adamawa people with incompetence and wastage, people who have been terrorizing everybody, would say they have succeeded but have not. Thank you very much for coming,” he said.

He said that the leaders of the PDP welcome people like Marwa because he is bringing hundreds of thousands of people into the party adding that “everybody who is in the party is to serve Nigeria, to keep Nigeria one, would be welcome today. The only people who will not welcome him today are those who want to use the PDP for their insane ambition”.

Also speaking, the deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Akpobi, confirmed that the national headquarters of the party actually endorsed yesterday’s declaration adding that “some of us have been yearning for change in this country and we are hoping that in 2007 we will have change for good.”

He said he was in total support of all that have been said by Aminu adding that sometime ago there was an attempt to recall him (Aminu) from the Senate but said the leaders at the national headquarters wondered why such an attempt would be made on such a distinguished Nigerian, an attempt he claimed was scuttled by the national leaders of the party.

In his own remarks, Assistant National Auditor of the Party, Chief Godwin Dabo said “as a leader of the PDP, I am ashamed and absolutely disgusted by what has happened here. Governor Boni Haruna should go to Benue State and to Niger State and see how even members of the opposition are treated. It is unfortunate that General Marwa is coming into the PDP, and not going into the ANPP, what is he (Boni Haruna) afraid of?

“The point is that as I have seen, from the airport coming and we went into the PDP secretariat, coming in and as I drove round, I saw more than over a million people and I counted 755 buses from Ekiti, from Abia and all over the country coming in here. Today should be a day of celebration in Adamawa State. It shouldn’t be a day of pettiness and I condemn it in the strongest term that this kind of thing is a disgrace.

“There should be freedom of association, freedom of movement and I want to tell you the days when Nigerians were intimidated have passed. Look at the people outside here, it took us 20 minutes from the gate to get into this house, for God sake, let us not do anything to bring instability to the polity”.

Speaking further, Dabo said if Marwa had wanted to set Yola on fire, he would have successfully done it, going by the crowd of support he pulled but added that he is a gentleman who wants peace. He further stated “when I saw Prof. Jubril Aminu, whom I have known for forty years, and sitting beside him, I know that tomorrow will be greater than today”.

In these words rests the nub of the matter which no Kalu apologist on this board or elsewhere has addressed or indeed, can address. It’s a rope issue. They daren’t address the issue lest the rope forms a noose around their necks. It’s safer to promote the misguided aspirations of a man whose ambition is far in excess of his talent.

igboblood!
quote: Brother, I hear you. It’s just that sometimes one has to take time out to correct certain misconceptions + outright lies else they gain ground + become ‘fact’. Some have equated our criticism of Kalu to jealousy + for the life of me I cannot see the correlation between the two - given Kalu’s unwholesome activities. Are we the only ones that see these things for what they really are? These brothers of ours have simply lost their sense of objectivity in this matter. In sum, MeB put it well when he said:
.........................................
ha! ha! ha! poor igboblood!, chei, and mebiafra you trio imo state born desendants of biblical Cain, that can go at any evil lenght to stop their juniors from being greater that themselves.
" the young shall grow, but not greater than their DEDE and DADA"! syndrom!
ha! ha! ha!, nobody is accusing you trio outcast of jealousy, but you guys unimaginable activities here expose your flanks and point to no other direction.
..............................................
now to think of it, mr igboblood, if it is not jealousy, then what else can it be??
-Abia state unlike your Imo state is blessed with fearless Warriors, Men of unbribable conscience- infact there is no no place in igbo land where true igbo nationalism runs high, than among Abians.Aba- abia state remains the centre of Igbo emancipation struggle because of the warrior nature of its inhabitants. the only true igbo nationalist fearlest igbo leader late MI-POWER okpara is an ABIAN.
now tell me how come three citizen of imo state- a state under straglehold of evil and corrupt drug cartel led by Udenwa and Mr controversial Nzeribe and spinless Iwuanyawu. a state ruled by a criminal gangsters that eliminates anybody who dares them. a state whose currupt governor were among the 30 treasury looting Govs, that want obasanjo dynasty in nigeria to pay back to avoid their prosecution.
so how come these 3 mischievious, criminal and controversial brothers of Authur Nzeribe- igboblood, chei, mebiafra, overlooking the rot/evil in their state to become so pre-occupied with governance in abia and gov Kalu as if abians- the real warriors, who can look into the eyes of even lucifer and tell him exactly what he is , no longer exit!..
charity of course beginns at home, and one can never give what he or she has not. o yes!
in Umuahia there is kalu... he is a fighter and the most outspoken gov , a principled warrior that can never be found anywere in Imo state....
in senate there is chukwumerije...he is the only real senate of igbo extration, a man you can never bribe his concience unlike your udenwas, iwuanyawus, mr controversials etc.. an abia warrior!..
how can kalu be looting Abia state allocation as you guys claim, and chukwumerije, ukiwe, and millions of eagle eyed and fearles abians and their traditional leaders could not confront him?. this is imposible!
so igboblood, if it is not jealousy, then what is it? folks want to know

Could you point to the readers where issues were taken by me for a so-called junior's success, please? It feels so good to know that your only drive is money which as I can see you have none if I'm wrong, then tell us on what you based your hungry support for the crook, orji? Development or? A BIG shame on you, little one for trying to divide Ndiigbo into, Ukiwe is from my state, Okpara was abian, Chukwumerije and all that jazz. Ever heard of Akanu Ibiam? I guess you never heard of Mazi Sam Mbakwe too? Dude, cut your juvenile delinquency while you're loosing to concentrate in order to answer the question IgboB posed to you many months ago.

Yet again, the Kalu apologists (this time represented by Markus Weber) fail miserably to address the most important issue which is Kalu’s contribution to the development of Abia. It’s clear that they simply cannot. For people like Weber who lack the ability to stick to issues I can only recommend professional help. Whether this should take the form of a series of psychiatric sessions or long-term institutionalized care remains to be seen. No prizes for guessing which I think would be appropriate.

Weber, Nwa Aro + others, please tell us what Kalu has done for Ndi Abia. List his achievements as governor for all to see. Until that is done your clamour will remain weak + unconvincing.

ha! ha! igboblood and his fellow cursed desendants of bibilical cain who will ....
the question is why these criminal mindset about Orji kalu and Ndi-Abia?!!- can somebody who is in 100 feet Gutter, save those who are on the surface?- no!, never!, impossible!
- can those who are in the darkest part of darkness, direct the part of those who is on the light?- no!, never!, impossible!
my dear brothers of Arthur Nzeribes, mischievious, criminal, greedy, muderous and envious Abnorms,- look unlike that your Fiefdom- Imo state that is under the control Lucifers in form of 20 times Senators, third term Govs etc,
every Citizens of about 5 million Abians World wide have access to the financial statement their state since OUK became their Gov- i must add this with pride, that only Ndi-Abia in the whole federation enjoy this great divident of democracy, openness, and glass-clear transparency!, that is why when you Igboblood and fellow disgruntle criminaly minded elements came to this forum to claiming that OUK is using Abia state revenue to run his business, and turn abia into his private warehouse, bla! bla! bla!..- ok fine you guys have a right of say and comment- then the question is: which Abia state? and which Revenue?
-for 1001 days and more now, Folks have been waiting in vain for you 419ners to offer explanation on your claim- nothing is coming fort, cause there is non!
even at that, as if the insult and the distraction is not enough- these controversial Arthur Nzeribe Imo chap extracts- formed a virtual Court in the center of their Devilish and wicked Souls. there they played the role of judge and jury, tried OUK and sentence him to 1 million years in prison to be spent in UK, USA, CHINA, JAPAN etc Prison! ha! ha! ha!
even with no evidence, just nothing! only hatread, borned out of envy, mischievious, jealousy and criminal intent.
.................................
on another note, Igboblood let me tell you, it is an insult to ndi-abia for Imo State Citizenry-no matter who to abandon the Darkness and amaggedom that Udenwa and Nzeribe created in imo state and come to Abia to fight the light, transparency and opennes and politics of no bitterness that Kalu instituted in Abia state. charity should begins at home.Arabs can not come to the west to teach the Oyibos Democracy! you can never give what you dont have! tackle Nzeribes, udenwas, and so many "beast of no nation" that populate your homeside. try to force your corrupt Gov-Udenwa (third term Governor) to atleast show about just 10% of financiall transparency that OUK is showing in ABIA- thats for a start.
pls for your information, Abians is blessed with so many "non-controversial" men and Women with guts, capable enough to confront any Governor nor President who dare trample on their collective right no matter who, any time any day.it will never come to an extent were Hoodlums, mischief mackers, 419ners, envious elememts and controversial elements will be needed to be imported from imo state to come and fight for Ndi-Abia.
