IgboBlood, Bros you may be wrong there. Are you sure this apologist called Daud is a tiv man? Even if he is, it may not be fair generalising in that way about all tiv just because the fellow Daud happens to be an idiot. Remember that no tribe, least of all the Igbo, are spared the curse of having a good number of idiots in their midst. Or would you like to judged as an Igbo man based on generalisations about the character of the likes of an Nzeribe, a jim nwobodo or a fred ajudua? (just to name a few). But basicaly, Bros, I doubt that this man is a tiv man, but only using the tiv angle to still create more confusion as is his aim. The average Tiv man of today is very distant from the philosophy of this handle "Daud". For sure he aint no xtian either. Just my 2 pence.

I assumed that you would understand my tactic simply because I adopted it from you. I never provide justification for barbarism or murder; I merely seek to understand them.
Using your own reasoning, one should now be able to say about the carnage now going on in Onitsha: quote:
a christ that allows these murders in his name is no better than the murderers who claim to fight for him.
I expect you to interject that the Onistsha masacres are mere retaliations having nothing to do with Christ. Perhaps, you should then be able to explain why the non-Christians in other parts of the country have not joined in the blood orgy. – DAUD
TURNING YOUR OTHER CHEEK TO A SERIAL MURDERER IS SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR
quote: You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also; and if any one would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well; and if any one forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. (Matthew 5:38)
Daud, As you can see, Christ says to turn the other cheek. First, he recognised that a dead man does not turn the other cheek. So, he meant non fatal violence. Even then he recognised that a man has only two cheeks. What happens when your two cheeks have been slapped already? To clarify further that tolerance is not meant to be abused endlessly; he said go another mile but clearly did not say you should go countless extra miles. I have no doubt that Jesus wanted to illustrate tolerance and leading by example. The assumption is that the person you are trying to show an example can learn. This is an important requirement for vicarious learning. There is absolutely no point teaching a severely learning disabled person how to mess about with your cheeks – that is if you still want to be alive!

Ochi,
Firstly, I don’t know for certain that Daud is Tiv. He has however on this thread + others been linked to the Tiv + has made no attempt to refute the connection.
Secondly, I totally agree that one should not hasten to tar a whole people with the same brush. However, I speak from a position of some authority. Their philosophy is as stated in my previous post. That they have a healthy dislike for the Igbo is real. I know because the things I speak of happened not only to other Igbo, they happened to me. That Tiv girls are, erm…‘liberal with their affection’, is also a given. Again, without putting too fine a point on it, I know this to be true. Do you know for instance that in the past it was considered customary for a Tiv man to offer one of his wives for the night (usually the youngest + prettiest one) to a friend sleeping over? I challenge Daud or anyone else to disprove this.
The Nwobodo + Nzeribe example does not apply as I didn’t pigeonhole the Tiv based on the actions of some of their ‘leaders’. I know the Tiv. I know how they operate. I know what drives them. I could even speak a little of the language at some point. It was not out of place to make such a generalisation on the basis of a representative sample just like it is not out of place to state that the Igbo are enterprising. This clearly does not mean that there are no Igbo who are layabouts. It only means that the majority of the people have the mindset to go out there + strive to better their lot. In the same way, my identification of the Tiv mentality does not in any way mean that every single one of them is the way I have described in this post + the preceding one; just most of them – of which Daud is undoubtedly one.

This is what you get by mixing yoroba/hausa with the Igbo culture, founded on respect for hardwork, life and property. The Igbo has never been the one to take life or distroy property for any reason because the Igbo culture is built on these values. But by being ruled and dictated to by incompetent cultures that have no respect for life or property; by a moron like olusegun obasanjo and the carefree owambe yoroba culture; by the hausa/fulani who use imported arab islamic and mohammedan religion as instrument to control nigeria and to terrorize the peace-loving Igbo/Biafran, who just wants to build businesses and improve the quality of his environment, unfortunately, the Igbo/Biafran man has learned the ways of the yoroba/hausa to distroy. It is no use now lamenting the scorched-earth policy the Igbo has now adopted. It is called MAD, for Mutual Assured Distruction. The genie has been let out of the bottle. The awusa/yoroba will kill Igbo again; and they in turn will be killed in greater numbers. That is the new rule of engagement with these peoples!!
The gown-wearing, incompetent yorobaman in aso rock has no control of this or concern to enforce the law; he's too busy plotting with his tribesmen to get even with the awusa by trashing the law and the so-called constitution to make himself president again. And he's buying up every one with integrity to accomplish this simgular goal. Who cares about enforcing the law; olusegun obasanjo is the law; that's how it works in his geriatric, kabiesi culture.
Yet some unfortunate people want the Igbo/Biafran to build a nation with these people. What a load of crap!! The truth is that if the Igbo/Biafrans are not seperated from nigeria now, 100 years from now, there will be no change in the outcome the Igbo/Biafran has been getting from nigeria since 1967. Seperation and Biafra are they only way out, because, again, you cannot build a nation with cultures who have nothing in common. Yugoslavia, USSR and others are common examples. The Igbo/Biafran simply has nothing in common with yoroba/awusa cultures.
BTW, the United States works because the dominant White Culture dicatates to everyone. For nigeria to work, the Igbo/Biafran business and liberal culture has to dictate to the geriatric, incompetent and holy-cow culture of the yoroba, and the feudal/islamic unproductive culture of the awusa/fulani. But as history taught, these people are very proud of their way of life; they do not want any one to show them how to build a competitive economy that supports improved standard of living for Africans in their nations.
Now is the time to seperate!! Hail Biafra!!!

Every life is important. That some nations do not value life, is not an excuse for those that value life to become converts to that heathen, uncivilized, and ungodly way of life. Our fore-parents whose path we must continue to make every effort to follow put a premium on life, not only on human life but all life, this is what make us Igbo.
That Igbo have decided to turn away from the way of life of our fore-parents is an indictment on “Igbo Leadership”, not only on Igbo leadership, but more importantly on Igbo in Diaspora who have forgotten what OHA is and now have bought into the anti Igbo culture of ME FIRST, no longer the COLLECTIVE!
If Igbo in Diaspora had only implemented a very small step that would cost Igbo Diaspora, no more than $1.00 a day, since there are not less than 2 million Igbo in the Western world, our brethren at home will not be forced into the animalistic behavior of the brutes that use religion as an excuse to show their inhuman, ungodly and sick behavior.
As usual we continue to look for excuses for not putting our money where our mouth is. We can make all the noise we want, but until we show the world and Nigerians in particular, that we are ready to put our money where our mouth is, it will continue to be open season on Igbo in Nigeria, more importantly Igbo in the bloody north of that abomination.
Umu Igbo, Ekwe Nche has a track record, not only does she talk the talk, she walks the walk. You might not like her refusal to betray OHA, you might hate her refusal to develop selective amnesia where your favorite god is concerned, you might even despise her ability to stand on the truth and her emphasis of the ‘rule of law’ at all times, but eventually Ndi Igbo will come to the realization that for this revolution to be successful, there can be only one path – the path left behind by our fore-parents, those geniuses that gave the world, CIVILIZATION, DEMOCRACY, ONE GOD, and THE RULE OF LAW.
Umu Igbo, if you would like to stop the constant massacre of Igbo, instead of just talking and expecting others to do what you must do, join us and take Nigeria to court in different Western nations, for the crime of genocide, and other crimes against Igbo. If the Ijaw or the Ogoni can take Nigeria to court, what are we afraid of?
When Igbo in Diaspora implements this very small step, those who wish Igbo evil will think twice before they harm the hair on any Igbo.

After reading the many responses of forumites concerning the late regrettable developments in both northern Nigeria and Biafra, my thoughts settled upon the human beings cut off from this our world; men , women and children, who like all of us had hopes and dreams for this life. Today their bodies lie cold and lifeless somewhere in West Africa, victims of anger, intolerance and revenge. Why? because of uncomplimentary cartoon depictions of Muhammad the so-called prophet of the Muslim world? Well, yes... and no.
On the surface the rioting Muslims in Maidugiri committed their murderous assaults because they were offended by the cartoons, but in reality any other seeming offense, however light or equally non-sensical, would have set them off. It is not the cartoons that caused the deaths of so many human beings, but they were caused by the influence of so many misled souls believing a book inspired by the spirit of anti-christ, preaching death and destruction to all and sundry who do not accept the lies written therein. This is the real reason so many precious lives have been lost in the last few days.
It will come as no surprise to most that I consider Islam to be the devil's invention, a great lie to supplant the Holy Bible, and an effort to pit multitudes against Israel and ultimately destroy the whole human race in unprecented bloodshed. For instance, it is no co-incidence that the location of Dome of the Rock, holy to Muslims, and from where Muhammad is supposed to have ascended into heaven(more likely descended into hell), is the mount called Moriah, and the environs of the Jewish Temple mount, where also is where(if you believe the Bible) the Temple will be built again. To do this the Dome of the Rock will have to be demolished. What do you think will be the reaction of the Muslim world when this happens? and it will happen, without consultation with any of the nations. Israel will make that decision by itself.
What then ought we to do seeing that Muhammad, the Quoran, and Muslims are poised to commit mass murder in the name of their god, who is really Satan, though they themselves are unaware that this is true. Some will remember that over a decade ago Salmon Rushdie published a book aptly called, "The Satanic Verses," describing the truth about the Qworan and the Islamic faith. Forthwith, a fatwa sentence of death was issued upon him and he went into hiding. Whether he is alive or dead today is anybody's guess. I ask you, can free peoples live under the intolerance of this scurge called Islam? Can there be any such thing as democracy without freedom of speech and freedom of expression. How are freedom lovers to make their voices heard if they must bite their tongue to prevent it from being cut out? Democracy with and among Muslims is a lie and a cruel hoax. There is no such thing.
What then are we to do? I say come out from among them, and send them out of your presence. Have no dealings with the devil, but expose him at every opportunity. Call a spade a spade and quit catering to their sensibilities. Fight fire with fire and give them hell for their trouble. If this seems to contradict my earlier statement about my concern for the loss of human life, I can only say that the wise will understand that more life will be lost trying to appease murderers than executing justice upon them.
As for those on this forum who have come out in condemnation of the freedom of expression rather than the murderous rage of their compatriots in the north(most notably Daud), theirs is world as unreal as their pretended objectivity, fearing to criticize obvious evil, perhaps because their real identity may be known to other Muslims, but of this I can only surmise. As for the killings in Igboland, they would never have taken place if not for the provocation from the north, or can anyone prove the contrary position? That does not justify the killings but the ultimate responsibility remains with the satanically-inspired Muslim religion.

In the last week, they have variously said they were protesting Danish cartoons, protesting a sensible teacher's decision to reprimand a silly girl reading koran while others studied and protesting third term ambition of Obasanjo.
in the not-too-distant past, they killed because an illitrate woman tore a page of Koran and used it as a oilet paper, a lorry driver reversed on a copy of the koran, a journalist suggested Mohammed would have married a beuaty contestant.
Nothing short of concerted, very consistent hard hitting back at this agents of violence is going to stop them.

Igbo does not live to turn the other chick. An eye for an eye in a policy of MAD (Mutual Assured Distruction) remains the language the yoroba/awusa, particularly the islamic northern nigerians understan. Too bad the Igbo has been forced to step down to the level of the moslem barbarism, but it works. The rule remains that anytime an Igbo is killed in nigeria by yoroba/awusa, 100 yoroba/awusa must be made to pay the price. Period!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Photo: Onitsha 2006 - no respite for islamists who bring nothing but violence to Nigeria. Courtesy: New York Times
"Whoever acts with respect will get respect. Whoever brings sweetness will be served almond cake." - Jalaluddin Rumi (13th-century Muslim poet) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following the latest massacre of Igbo people in northern nigeria by islamists, quack analysts have been on the rampage, falling over each in a bid to obscure the issue at stake. They claim that the criminal murderers were protesting against the so-called 3rd term. This dummy has been sold to the foreign press which have taken the refrain, having a field day obscuring the truth about nigeria.
Nothing can be further from the truth. The Chronicle asks: wh! at third term? How can Islamists stop a Yoruba 3rd term by murdering Igbo people who are not in power and have not been in nigeria since 1970? Is obasanjo Igbo? If Islamists want to stop 3rd term, don't they know where Mr obasanjo is from and where he resides? The idea of Islamists being instigated to start a crisis in order to advance 3rd term is a nonesense.
This is not about 3rd term at all. The Islamists are behaving rather like the playground bully- confront the bully and he would protest that it was only a joke. So rather than face up to the reality about the propensity of Moslem to stage violence, we are told that the massacre of Igbo in Katsina, Maiduguri and Bauchi is a protest against third term. Those who explain the present phase of Islamist violence in Nigeria in terms of 3rd term would do well to tell us what caused the massacre of 200 ! people in Kaduna during the Miss World contest in 2003 and numerous other past pogroms staged by islamists. Were these about 3rd term too?
The truth is Islamic fundamentalists have resorted to mass murders in northern nigeria on issues ranging from beauty contests to eclipse of the moon in order to impose their religion on the Christian Igbo. These people have never hidden their ambition to deep the Quaran in the sea- i.e. the south Atlantic, a dream as far-fetched as the sultan of Denmark.
For the above purpose, the islamists have dual strategies. One, to forcefully - convert Igbo people by sheer violence starting with those living in northern nigeria, who will then become the arrow-head for the Islamization of Igboland. Essentially what the Islamists are saying to Igbo people in northern nigeria is this: the only way to ensure safety for yourself is to conver! t to Islam- i.e. islam or death, dan fodio style.
The other strand of the Islamists strategy is to etch it in the global consciousness that nigeria is a moslem state by seeking to project the country as such at every opportunity. This strategy which started with the illegal affiliation of nigeria with the organization of islamic countries (oic) came to a head during the Miss World Beauty Contest when the contestants from around the world were virtually chased out of nigeria, even from the so-called capital Abuja.
Both of these islamist strategies will be resisted and defeated. The message from Onitsha is loud and clear and it is embeded in the words of their fellow moslem, Jalaluddin Rumi, a 13th-century Muslim poet who wrote:
"Whoever acts ! with respect will get respect. Whoever brings sweetness will be served almond cake." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What Mr Rumi did not say is that the reverse is equally the case. Onitsha has demonstrated what will be henceforth served to the Islamists who bring no cake, only violence to Nigeria. NC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin Nwanna, I'm afraid you give far more significance to Onitsha than it actually is. First, Onitsha is no epicenter of Christianity. To the so-callled international audience, Onithsa is a mere dot in a landscape brimming with disease and poverty; it is "a market town"; the "world" and the "international media" really, really does not care about Iwene Tansi or Onitsha. We kid ourselves they do. We must be careful how we interpret these events. As a former correspondent in Nigeria for the Newsweek magazine, I can basically outline how the mind of the international media works. In actual fact, Nigeria, generally does not figure in most things. We love to think of what others think of us - but the truth is that the attention span of the world is too short to care about a cattle-stop, which is truly, and until it changes, what Onitsha is. But having said that, I'd like us to complicate the background to the incidents in Maidugri, Kastina and Onitsha etc in the past week, just a little. I do want us to also understand that much of the north is under colonial occupation, and the people feel as powerless, even more powerless than the more adveturous Igbo. We often tar the entire north with the same brush, but beleive me, most of us have no clue about the real issues and dynamic of life in the so-called north. At play in the Nigerian equation is a very clear elite interest which consistently manipulates artificial sectarian and ethinic categories to maintain themselves in power. The Sultan of Sokoto, for example, has no problem with Arthur Nzeribe. Orji Kalu is not a marginalized Igbo. When Alamesieagha's financial interests were revealed, his closest business partners were not Ijaw, but Hausa and Yoruba. In other words, few Bayelsa or Ijaw people benefited from the money allo9cated to Bayelsa than individual Yoruba or Hausa, through theur business connections. If you look closely, the pattern is very very clear: the manipulation of the base instincts of fear and ignorance which keeps the Nigerian masses absolutely clueless is often deployed when the chips come down for Nigerian leaders, who are indeed mostly clients of international interests. The ordinary northerner is oppressed by both history and by the material conditions of disempowerment. In actual fact, it is because of the lack of strategic action by the Igbo which has stopped the Igbo pacification of the North. The old Igbo in the north saw it, and began to build Igbo Union schools, create altrenative culture modes, and began active recruitment of northern children to these Union schools - so much that in one gneration, the feudal elite in the north became wary of the Igbo influence which threatened to democratize the space in the north, and thus threatened the epicenters of traditional power in the north. It is in the interest of the Igbo to create its own modes of shadow authority, and we will pacify the north without firing a shot. That is another story. And here, we must be very careful in the broad stokes we make in celebrating the deaths of people - whether killed in Maidugri or Onitsha: every death is an abomination. We must condemn it. Period. But here is my sense of it: the pattern of the riots signal the hands of the Nigerian security services. It is classic. I feel almost certain that they chose simultaneous centers to ignite these ethnic riots. I feel certain that the "liberation movement" in the Niger delta is staged. It is a Nigerian security operation. The pictures I saw convinced me. Gentlemen, these pictures were sent by e-mail; a traceable technology. It is easy, given current technology to pin-point the exact location of the so-called hostages, and release them using special forces; but that is not the purpose. The men shown in the pictures are also interesting: their composition is consistently suspect - international oil workers, they are called, but these men are purely security operatives, mapping delta, and working with the so-called militia to stage these acts. It is fiction. And soon we'll get to see all the results of these staged security operations, including the killings in Onitsha and the North. Its so very, very clear to those who know the bits. Obasanjo, I predict, will play this card in 2007 at the "escalation" of these events, and declare emergency rule; and remain in power. If he is unable to secure the third term mandate, he would use the threat of violence as the basis for extending his rule and expanding his emergency powers. Indira Ghandi used the very same method in 1975 . the British and the Americans perfected it for their "third world" allies. The events in Nigeria have more to do with global oil politics than with religion and ethnicity - the vey need to mainatin a clientelist edifice in a very strategic zone of global oil production. Keep the natives guessing, and in turmoil. So gentlemen, please note, it was not the "islamist north" that staged the show in the north, nor was it the Igbo in Onithsa; what happened in Nigeria in the pst week has the signature of the beast. Watch out.
1. Why do the Igbo have a need to "pacify the North"? Why not content ourselves with building our own nation and moving on with it? The Muslim-Arabic culture will never mesh with the Igbo culture. It is crass foolishness at beast, at worst, a psychological delusion and grandiosity.
2. So, a) The political and ruling class all drink FROM this one trough, right? Right. b) Who FEEDS the trough? The peoples of the nations struggling in Nigeria--with their blood and sweat. They supply the trough and keep it full for the above class. c) Solution: stop feeding the trough; allow it to dry up; and viola: dry trough / no trough. The exploitative class is finished.
As long as there is Nigeria--one-Nigeria--in any form, it is like providing a carcass or carcass-to-be to vultures: the vultures will be there to do their business, without fail. It is like providing and maintaining a trough.
Remove the carcass--destroy it, bury it, burn it, or whatever: once it is gone, the vultures will leave, too.
3) if you can think of a better solution, let's have it.
Thanks for your contribution. Quite interesting. It reminds me of our student days in nigeria when some of wore long unshaven beards calling ourselves marxists. With the collapse of th Soviet Union, there has been no coherent socialist agenda anywhere in the world. Ethnicity and religion have since replaced class analysis as the key determinant of global politics, except in North Korea under Kim Yung Sun II and Cuba under Castro.
With respect to the events in nigeria, please permit me to comment as follows:
1. At the risk of over-stating the case, Onitsha is important to global Christianity at least in the same way as Kano is important to global Islam. Please note that whenever Christianity in Africa is at issue, Igboland and by extension Onitsha will as a rule take a centre stage. Onitsha is importasnt to church going Europeans in Dublin, Rome, Berlin, Brusells etc just like Kano is important to Al-Jazeera views in Cairo, Beirut, Jarkata, Damascus etc. Anyone who has travelled extensively in Europe will tell you this. The operators of the international media are themselves drawn from and socialized within these global divisions and will cover significant events in nigeria and move on, but their interpretation is shaped by the social realities on the ground. This does not mean that anyone cares about Igboland or nigeria.
2. There were protests over the Danish cartoons in several countries - Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Libyia etc. In Nigeria, the protest took on the character of anti-Igbo riots in Maiduguri with immediate repraisals at Onitsha. There is nothing unusual about this. In fact less than a month ago, even mere rumour of an Igbo tanker driver killed in Kano led to a major riot in Aba in which many northerners were killed. So it is not clear to me why people want to link the recent riots in Maiduguri, Katsina, Bauch and Onitsha to the so-called 3rd term. If the riots were about 3rd term, what were the Miss World riot and the various other riots the y staged in the past due to? This 3rd term thing is nothing but a Hausa-Fulani ploy to divert attention from the main issue - ie their proclity to resort to violence. Maybe, the nigerian security services were also involved in creating riots simultaneously in London, Beirut, Jarkata, Tripoli, Islamabad etc. to achieve 3rd term in those countries.
3. I am aware of the theorized powrlessness and marginalization of the northern masses. This mode of analysis omits the religious, ethnic and other emotive aspects which allows the same marginalized masses to be unleashed on equally marginalized Igbo masses in a murderous rage at regular intervals. To the extent that identifying with these masses have not been helpful in halting Igbo massacres, the analyses and all the conclusions originating from them are useless. There is no road map on how to halt these massacres except hand wringing, hoping that the clueless masses will see the light. The idea of Igbo pacification of the north is too grandiose and unwieldly to merit attention.
4. Your remark about the onitsha riots bring us back to the original subject of the discussion - i.e. should pictures of the riots be published? I do not believe that these pictures should be censored. Beyond that, I do not know of anyone celebrating the death of anybody whether in Onitsha or Maiduguri.
5. Like you, I do not believe the so-called niger-delta liberation movement either, but for a different reason. If the Ijaw really want to kick nigerian arses in the niger-delta, they would sit down with the regional superpower in the region (i.e. the Igbo) and negotiate the terms of engagement. At the moment, they are just involved in a costly opportunistic posturing.
Ndeewo!

Obj has invited US anti-terrorist squad to Niger Delta to help capture the Niger Delta freedom fighters holding the those hostages.
Does this move make sense? The US is suffering heavy casualities in Afghanistan and Iraq and they are here in Nigeria to fight who?
This Awusa/Fulani oil that flowed from Maiduguri to Niger Delta (as they alleged)and with the US now involved, it remained to be seen what happens next.
An American journalist (a woman) was kidnapped by Iraqis, I wonder if the US anti-terrorists squad have gone to arrest the kidnappers?

Force that can carry the Battle to the region that igbos were being killed and bring justice to the enemy and protect the people. i appeal to ever increasing number of Traitors and sabos in igboland to allow this- this endless bloodshed over nothing must stop, and it can not if we dont do something or bring in new ideas to combat it. and igbos should fortwith resist with any available means possible, the wicked effort by Obasanjo genocidal regime to disarm them. if those 60 people thats was killed by islamist were armed, they would have defended themselves with it! ................................ like bro oha-ka said, it is an indictment of our leadership.as at now Oha-na-eze have sold out infact they are Dead!. Joe irukwu recently landed the last straw that broke the carmels back by declaring that 50 million igbos whom his Organisation represents want Obasanjo to sit tight forever and decide upon their destiny!! - as one of my friend put it on hearing this , he say i am ashamed to be an igbo man, i wish i am an Ijaw or Ogoni etc.. i pray that this will be the last babaric killing of innocent in igboland. let carry the battle to the enemy territory and instill the fear of God on them!
I hear you. Take justice to the terrorists. Fight them in their neighborhoods. Get those mosques in Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Katsina and Abuja down for them to feel the pain.
For example, Umuru Dikko or Emir of Kano or Sokoto is not feeling any pain that moslem mosques are down at Onitsha. Go get them in their neighborhoods.
