Folks, it has happened. BBc is reporting that 3 people have died from a car bomb explosion in Port Harcourt. Mend has claimed responsibility. BiafraNigerian militant car bomb attack
Could this be an indication that MEND have decided to escalate their activities from the riverine areas to the upland area? I wonder what the implication would be for Biafranigeria as a whole and for Nd'Igbo in particular.
On the Biafranigeria scale, this could be a stimulus to comeout of the barracks. It has in my own opinion put paid to the third term bid though OBJ could use this as an excuse to declare a state of emergency on his way to life presidency. This would further escalate rather than calm the situation.
Apart from armed robbers and other uniformed extortionists and murderers, is this another cause for concern for our families back home? What stops other militias eg OPC, Arewa youths from using this technique?
This brings me to the implication for Umu Igbo, history has shown that Igboman has always been a victim for every group who are nlot happy with themselves, state or federal government, the American and even the Danes. AD has a problem with PDP, solution kill some Igbos, Americans bomb Afganistan, kill some Igbos, Danes publish a cartoon about Prophet Mohammed, Kill some more Igbos. How are we sure that this method will not be used on innocent Umu Igbo?
It is high time Umu Igbo develop there own militia to protect themselves. It is time for Massob to rethink their methods, It is right to continue the peaceful agitation, but they should be able to protect themselves. The rate members of Massob are murdered by the Biafranigerian military while the world looks the otherway is realy very alarmimg.

Obasanjo is a big job in terms of the peace initiatives he is advancing to the people of Niger Delta.
What the people of Niger is looking for is 50% derivation so they and they alone can provide what OBJ is now offering them - jobs and roads. A temporary solution is not what it is but a lasting one that demands 50% derivation.

Umunnaa,
Mend purports to represent the Ijaw -fact. Has Mend sat down with other stakeholders in the area to discuss the key issues before embarking on bomb attacks in non-Ijaw areas to further an exclusive Ijaw cause? Further Ijaw and their leaders have indicated that they do not wish to rock the nigerian boat. So why export violence to a non-Ijaw territory just to be co-opted into oil-sharing? Are there no military barracks in Ijaw areas - Yenagoa, Buguma, Burutu, Nembe- to be bombed for this purpose?
Although we have no sympathy with the nigerian so-called military, we regard this attack as provocative and dangerous. It will be interesting to now see what the Ikwerre owners of Port Harcourt are going to do about this. We hope no Igbo is killed in this pointless, ludicrous nonesense.

This is funny. I never thought I would find a car bomb to be a funny event. MEND is a disgrace to itself and to Africa. Those clumsy clowns don't even know how to explode a car bomb. It would been better for those morons to just douse the car with gasoline and let it explode or throw a lit match in the gas tank.

I do not support this car bomb tactics where innocent civillians would be the victims. MEND better concentrate on the targets which they have confirmed, rather than further put the lives of innocent Nigerians at such risk.

"Not to undervalue human life, but is it not better to use a handgun if your aim is to kill two persons? "
I am not a supporter of the violent outburst now slowly engulfing Nigeria. Why do the Iraqi "insurgents" use car bombs? There are outgunned in a real frontal engagement with US forces, so they resort to "shock & Awe" which sheer explosions of car bombs creates.

I don't know who MEND is and frankly, I do not give a damn if they blow up 10 army barracks; I said, I could not care less if they car bomb Nigerian soldeirs, so long as they do not target civilians. Nigerian leaders or government do not respect human rights, whether they are marching or protesting peacefully in the street, they gas them up. No group or groups become extremist over night, government make or push them to it. Massob have been campaigning peacfully since 2000, the government attacks them, arrest and put them in jail without charges or trail. It is just a matter of time Massob will go underground and start bombing government barracks too in retaliation. However, there is a catch, this Islamic car bomb copy cats will make the Eastern part of Nigeria the most dangerous georgraphy for foreign investment, that is my only concern, otherwise wack the dogs.

I have prided myself in staying away from commenting one way or the other on the strategies of other nations, since one has to ‘wear the shoes of that nation’ to understand her viewpoint or strategy. Also since it is the contention of the organization I belong to (Ekwe Nche Research Institute), a viewpoint that I whole heartedly subscribe to, “that every nation must speak for herself or forever remain silent”, I see no reason to complain when these nations now decide to express themselves on the way forward, for whether right or wrong it remains their decision.
I salute these nations for expressing themselves, for they and they alone hold the key to their future!
MEND: Leadership unknown, MASSOB, all leaders even to the village level known – MASSOB as an organization will not last for long, since it lacked the understanding that a revolution is not a cakewalk or joke, when Nigeria is ready, it will arrest all her leadership, and since without the head, any organization is dead, MASSOB might as well be considered dead. Luckily for Ndi Igbo, other organizations will step forward to take their rightful place and fill the void created by MASSOB.
MEND: Strategy – force. The British in all her glory was defeated in Nigeria twice and had to sue for peace, both in the Delta areas, Jaja of Opobo and Nana of Koko. The Nigeria government understands it can only loose any war fought in the creeks. MASSOB: Strategy – Peaceful Actualization. Uwazurike, had no idea what was involved, his method was dead on arrival since it was a concept he borrowed from the founders of this concept as regards Ndi Igbo (Ekwe nche Research Institute), and did not have the humility to approach those that had researched this method for implementation.
Is “Peaceful Actualization” still viable for Ndi Igbo? Of course, it is, both Ndi Igbo in Diaspora and Igbo at home must understand that each group has a different part to play. Igbo Diaspora must do the heavy lifting while Igbo in Ala Igbo must engage in low level campaign which essentially involves educating Oha on the way forward – a return to the path laid down by our fore-parents, those geniuses that gave the world, CIVILIZATION, DEMOCRACY, RULE OF LAW and ONE GOD.
If Ndi Igbo resort to force, they will be playing into the hands of the Nigerian vandals. Igbo land is already an occupied land, Igbo leadership sold out years ago and most if not all the leaders are traitors and sellouts.
What has changed as regards Ndi Igbo - NOTHING!

They are probably smarter than your average moslem homicidal bombers with no regards for human lives; that is why they prefer to bomb government offices and facilities over human casualties because they will not win sympathy if the life of ordinary civilian is taken. Copy that silly.

BREAKING NEWS MSNBC News Services Updated: 10:32 a.m. ET May 12, 2006 LAGOS, Nigeria - A pipeline explosion on the outskirts of Nigeria’s capital killed about 100 people on Friday, a Red Cross official said.
Villagers were tapping into the pipeline to steal oil when the blast erupted, setting fire to about 500 cans full of oil, Abiodun Orebiyi said.
“We’ve been able to confirm about 100 dead. We could not discover any survivors or injured people. We are searching for them,” he said.
Police spokesman Haz Iwendi earlier said nobody had died in the explosion of the pipeline, which is owned by state company Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Iwendi later called back to say the information had been wrong.
Villagers had flocked to the ruptured conduit in Ilado, outside the main city of Lagos, to scoop up fuel that was gushing out, according to Nigeria’s Channels Television.
Nigeria is Africa’s leading oil producer, the world’s seventh-biggest exporter and fifth-biggest source of U.S. oil imports.
Thieves often steal heavily subsidized fuel from pipelines for personal use or to sell across borders where prices are higher.
In 1998, more than 1,000 villagers died when a ruptured gasoline pipeline exploded as they scavenged fuel.
This report will be updated as information becomes available.
Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
