On January 1966,the first coup in Nigeria occured and it was termed Igbo coup because the majority of the plotters were Igbos and the victims were mainly northners.

Among the Victims were.

Prime Minister Tafewa Balewa.
Ahmadu Belloand
Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari
Colonel Kur Mohammed
Lt-Cols Abogo Largema
James Pam

General Aguiyi Ironsi was then asked to lead the government but out of trust he circled himself with the Northners just to show that he was not leading an Igbo regime or a Tribal Government just like the looks of Babangida,Abacha,Obasanjo etc.

General Aguiyi Ironsi had with great courage entrusted his personal security to northern soldiers including Major Yakubu Danjuma, Lieutenants William Walbe,Titus Numan and Sani Bello.One of his ADCs was the younger brother of Lt-Col James Pam who was murdered during the January coup. By surrounding himself with northern soldiers, General Ironsi sealed his own fate.

Sealling his fate is the eruption of the problem we have today in the Igbo land,if General Aguiyi Ironsi had then circled himself with Igbo Officers guess the mid coup of 1966 would have been foilled.The Civil War was the round up of the mid year coup by the angry Northern Officer.

Why must we trust them?

The northerners feels that Nigeria is their property,they share our resources and steal every dime they lay their hands on simply because he trusted them but i tell you brothers,it is time we call for account.
